I don't know what is actually wrong with my eyes, as my eye doctor has told me that there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. He didn't even say I have dry-eye. My eyes sting and sometimes get blurry, and I can hardly keep my eyes open. These eye drops do help but don't give as much relief as I wish. I don't feel them going into my eye, so there is no sting at all, and the drops do feel comforting. My eyes feel somewhat better after use, but it's only partial relief, and my eyes still bother me a great deal. The partial relief I get from the drops only lasts about an hour. Still, I plan to continue using these, as I don't know of any better drops with better reviews.
I do recap and continue using each vial for 48 hours. I got the courage to do this after reading that other reviewers successfully do this. I follow the instructions to put 2 drops into each eye at a time, and I treat both eyes, so that's 4 drops per application. I apply drops 3 times per day, so that's 24 drops that I use from a single vial across 2 days, and I still throw some away. I force myself to throw away the unused remainder after 2 full days of use, even though 1-2 applications remain in the vial, because I don't want to risk contamination by keeping an open vial longer than 2 days. I don't notice any difference in the drops between the 1st application and the last from a vial. I'm going to start using these drops 4 times a day instead of 3, since my eyes could use more relief, and there is enough in each vial, so it won't cost me any more money. To recap, just turn the cap sideways, stick the cap back into the vial, and then prop the vial up against something. The cap fits pretty tightly back into the vial, so propping might not even be necessary to prevent leakage, but it does help keep the cap area clean. If I did not re-cap and reuse, I could not afford these vials, since I seem to need to use the drops frequently.
I don't usually lose any drops because I'm pretty good at getting them into my eye. My method is to get close to the mirror, and pull down the bottom lid until it makes a little pocket, and squeeze the drop into that pocket. Then I close my eye for a second so the drop will spread over the eye. I rarely lose a drop by doing it this way.
The vials are very easy to squeeze drops out of. Sometimes a vacuum keeps the drops stuck at the top of the vial, but you can just shake and squeeze it, and the drops come down easily. The vial itself is plenty pliable for squeezing.
Everything I've read says the preservative-free drops are recommended if you're going to use eye drops for a long period of time. The single-use vials are convenient for keeping in your purse or pocket if you're going to throw them away after one application. However, if you're going to recap and reuse from a vial, they don't work that well when you're away from home for various reasons. So when I'm out, I use the preservative formula that comes in a multi-use bottle that I keep in my purse. I have only done this one day so far, so probably not long enough to say this for sure, but during that one day, I felt the preservative formula gave me more relief than the preservative-free. I just wanted to mention that in case it helps someone looking for relief
