In our study with adult C57BL/6 mice, we found that prolonged exposure to CB led to increased blood clotting potential due to changes in the spleen, where extra blood cell production occurs.

Notably, we observed that CB exposure caused an increase in certain cells responsible for blood clotting, while decreasing folic acid levels in the bloodstream. This drop in folic acid seemed to correlate with heightened levels of prostaglandin E2, a compound that can drive inflammation and increase blood clotting.

When we supplemented the mice with folic acid, we noted a reduction in the negative effects of CB on blood clotting. This protective effect appeared to stem from folic acid's ability to inhibit the enzymes involved in the excessive production of prostaglandins by splenic macrophages. Overall, our findings suggest that folic acid supplementation could be a valuable strategy to mitigate the heightened risk of thrombosis associated with carbon black exposure.

Our focus was on how PLP modifies angiotensin II, a peptide that plays a critical role in blood vessel constriction, transforming it into a different form known as pyruvamide-Ang II (Ang P).

By examining this transformation, we looked into its effects on calcium entry in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) as well as its binding affinity to blood pressure receptors. Through laboratory experiments using both spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY), we found that those treated with PLP experienced a significant drop in blood pressure, while the control group showed an increase after receiving angiotensin II.

This suggests that PLP could be an effective, low-cost option for managing hypertension, potentially offering a new path for treatment. Increasing PLP intake could help hypertensive individuals manage their condition more effectively and affordably.

Our research involved 595 children diagnosed with CHD and 605 healthy children. By using a multivariate logistic regression model, we were able to assess the impact of maternal folate intake and the offspring's genetic profiles on the likelihood of developing CHD and its various subtypes.

The findings were quite striking. We observed that children whose mothers took folic acid during pregnancy showed a significantly reduced risk of CHD. Specifically, this included notable reductions in certain types of heart defects such as atrial septal defect and ventricular septal defect. Interestingly, specific polymorphisms in the MTRR gene were also linked to an increased risk of CHD.

Most importantly, we found that when mothers supplemented with folic acid, it appeared to mitigate some of the risks associated with genetic variants in their children. I’ve been taking single methylated B-vitamins for some time. Due to the MTHFR mutation, I struggle to methylate vitamins, feeling nauseated and somewhat hungover with regular multi-vitamins. Methylated versions may not cause nausea. If they don’t, you may also have this mutation. B vitamins are crucial for neurological health, especially folate for pregnant women. If you can’t process them, you miss out on their benefits. I prefer Jarrow for the consistent quality of their supplements.
