Quercetin alleviates asthma symptoms
Quercetin inhibits ferroptosis through the SIRT1/Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway and alleviates asthma disease.
Most Relevant Research
We explored how quercetin, a natural compound found in fruits and vegetables, can impact asthma symptoms. Using an ovalbumin-induced mouse model of asthma, we aimed to uncover whether quercetin can help inhibit a process known as ferroptosis, potentially offering a new therapeutic approach for asthma sufferers.

Our findings showed that quercetin effectively reduced inflammation in the asthmatic mice. Specifically, it lowered levels of inflammatory factors such as IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13—substances typically elevated during an asthma attack. Notably, we also observed that quercetin increased the levels of superoxide dismutase, an important antioxidant, while decreasing malondialdehyde and ferric ions that are associated with oxidative stress.

Additionally, quercetin appeared to boost the expression of key proteins involved in defending against oxidative stress, specifically SIRT1, Nrf2, and HO-1. This suggests that quercetin not only helps combat inflammation but may also protect against cellular damage within the lungs. Overall, our study indicates that quercetin holds promise as a beneficial treatment for asthma by addressing both inflammatory and oxidative stress pathways.

Quercetin's role against colorectal cancer
Structure-activity relationship analysis of mono-methylated quercetins by comprehensive MS/MS analysis and anti-proliferative efficacy in human colorectal cancer cells.
Most Relevant Research
We aimed to understand how quercetin and its derivatives, especially mono-methylated quercetins (MQs), might help in treating colorectal cancer. Using advanced techniques like tandem mass spectrometry, we identified specific structural features of these flavonoids that could enhance their anti-cancer activities.

Our findings showed that methylation at specific positions on the quercetin molecule significantly improved its ability to fight cancer cells. Notably, 3-O-methylquercetin and 4'-O-methylquercetin were particularly effective. These compounds caused cancer cells to stop dividing and triggered programmed cell death, also known as apoptosis.

We observed that these MQs worked through several mechanisms, such as inducing oxidative stress, disrupting mitochondrial function, and inactivating cancer-related signaling pathways—all while being non-toxic to normal human colon cells. This makes them promising candidates for cancer therapy, especially for patients with colorectal cancer.

Ultimately, our research revealed that small modifications in flavonoid structures could lead to significant improvements in their anti-cancer effectiveness, providing a path for developing targeted treatments for colorectal cancer.

Quercetin boosts grape cold resistance
VvbZIP22 regulates quercetin synthesis to enhances cold resistance in grape.
Most Relevant Research
We observed that quercetin, a powerful antioxidant, plays a significant role in helping grapes withstand cold temperatures. In our study, we found that grapes exposed to low temperatures accumulate more quercetin, which in turn enhances their cold resistance.

By applying exogenous quercetin, we noted a marked improvement in the grapes' ability to endure low-temperature stress. Our research revealed that a key gene, VvFLS1, responsible for quercetin synthesis is upregulated when grapes experience cold conditions.

We also discovered that VvbZIP22, a protein that binds to the VvFLS1 promoter, is crucial for mediating this process. When we overexpressed VvbZIP22 in grapes, it resulted in higher levels of quercetin and improved cold resistance, further confirming its pivotal role in the plant's adaptation to harsh environments.

Through these findings, we highlighted the importance of quercetin in enhancing grape survival during cold spells, showcasing a vital link between plant biology and climate resilience.

Quercetin alleviates gout symptoms
Quercetin inhibits gout arthritis in mice: induction of an opioid-dependent regulation of inflammasome.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the effects of quercetin, a natural compound, on gout arthritis induced by monosodium urate (MSU) crystals. Our research specifically looked at how quercetin alleviates pain and inflammation associated with gout while examining its interaction with naloxone, a substance known to block opioid receptors.

Mice were treated with quercetin, and we assessed their pain sensitivity from 1 to 24 hours post-MSU injection. Our observations included evaluating the recruitment of white blood cells, levels of inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress, and activation of certain molecular pathways in the knee joints, all measured at 24 hours after the MSU was introduced.

The results were promising: quercetin effectively reduced MSU-induced pain, inflammation, and related oxidative stress. Notably, the presence of naloxone seemed to negate these benefits, indicating that quercetin's effects are linked to opioid pathways. These findings suggest that quercetin could be a valuable therapeutic option for managing gout symptoms, highlighting its dual role as both an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent.

Quercetin shows promise for bronchitis
Integrating serum pharmacochemistry, network pharmacology and untargeted metabolomics strategies to reveal the material basis and mechanism of action of Feining keli in the treatment of chronic bronchitis.
Most Relevant Research
We aimed to gather insights into how quercetin, a component of the herbal preparation Feining Keli (FNKL), may influence chronic bronchitis (CB) treatment. In our study, a rat model of CB was created using a combination of nasal drops of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and smoking exposure. This model allowed us to evaluate the effectiveness of FNKL in a controlled environment, assessing behavioral changes, body mass, and lung health through various examinations.

Our findings indicated that FNKL has positive effects on CB, showing a potential benefit in alleviating symptoms. One crucial element we identified was quercetin-3-galactoside, which appears to play a significant role in FNKL's effectiveness. We discovered that quercetin might help by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress while regulating metabolic activity associated with bronchitis.

However, it’s important to note that while quercetin is active within the FNKL complex, our study does not isolate its effects from other ingredients. This means that while its importance is highlighted, we cannot conclusively determine quercetin’s standalone effectiveness in treating bronchitis.

Quercetin nanoparticles reduce senescence
Nanoparticle-delivered quercetin exhibits enhanced efficacy in eliminating iron-overloaded senescent chondrocytes.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the effects of quercetin, a natural compound with potential benefits for treating osteoarthritis (OA), specifically focusing on its ability to target damaged chondrocytes, the cartilage cells that play a crucial role in joint health. In our study, we utilized specialized nanoparticles to increase the effectiveness of quercetin, overcoming its usual limitations related to absorption and bioavailability.

Our research involved subjecting human chondrocytes to conditions that mimic OA. Afterward, we treated them with either free quercetin or our quercetin-loaded nanoparticles (Q-NP). We found that the Q-NP not only allowed for better cellular absorption but also selectively induced apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in senescent chondrocytes. This is significant because eliminating these unhealthy cells could pave the way for healthier joint repair and function.

In addition to promoting cell death in the right cells, Q-NP led to an increase in oxidative stress and reduced key markers of cellular aging. We also noted that the treatment halted the cell cycle in cells that needed to be eliminated. Overall, our findings suggest that enhancing quercetin delivery through nanoparticles holds great promise for improving osteoarthritis outcomes by actively removing harmful senescent cells from joint tissues.

Quercetin may aid hair growth
Quercetin rescues dihydrotestosterone-treated human dermal papilla cells via SHP2/AKT signaling to suppress autophagy and apoptosis.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the effects of quercetin on hair loss, particularly its ability to counteract damage caused by dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This compound has gained attention for its various health benefits, yet its role in hair follicle health was not fully understood until now.

Our research focused on how quercetin can protect human dermal papilla cells from the harmful effects of DHT. We observed that quercetin not only improves cell function but also influences the proteins involved in the cell cycle. Additionally, it helps reduce oxidative stress and preserves energy within the cells, maintaining their mitochondrial health.

Through network pharmacology analysis, we discovered that quercetin targets a protein called SHP2, which plays a pivotal role in regulating AKT signaling pathways. Excitingly, our findings showed that quercetin even promotes hair growth in mice, further underlining its potential as a natural treatment for hair loss. Overall, these insights suggest that quercetin may serve as a promising candidate for supporting hair regeneration and combating hair loss effectively.

Quercetin effectively reduces nausea
Brain mitochondrial damage attenuation by quercetin and N-acetyl cysteine: peripheral and central antiemetic effects.
Most Relevant Research
We explored how quercetin, a natural antioxidant, affects nausea induced by substances like ipecac and copper sulfate in a controlled study involving chickens. Both quercetin and another antioxidant called N-acetylcysteine (NAC) were tested to see whether they could alleviate emesis (vomiting) and also protect the brain from oxidative damage.

Our findings revealed that quercetin and NAC did, in fact, significantly reduce vomiting compared to the control group. We observed notable improvements in markers of oxidative damage in the brain, such as reduced lipid peroxidation and lower levels of reactive oxygen species and protein carbonyls after administering quercetin and NAC. This suggests that these substances enhance mitochondrial function and boost antioxidant levels within the body.

Interestingly, when we combined quercetin with NAC, the effects were even more pronounced, implying that utilizing both together may offer greater protection against nausea and brain oxidative stress. Overall, this study indicates that quercetin could play a valuable role in managing nausea through both peripheral effects (like reducing vomiting) and central effects (like protecting the brain).

The clinical effect of benesco™ on reflux symptoms: A double-blind randomized placebo-controlled trial.
Most Relevant Research
We conducted a double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled trial to evaluate how benesco™, a supplement containing quercetin, might help alleviate reflux symptoms. Our study involved 100 participants who were randomly assigned to receive either benesco™ or a placebo for six weeks.

The results showed that 39% of participants taking benesco™ experienced at least a 50% reduction in their reflux symptoms. However, this was not significantly different compared to the 47% success rate in the placebo group. Additionally, both groups reported a comparable number of reflux-free days and nights, offering no strong evidence that benesco™ is effective in treating reflux.

In conclusion, while we explored the potential of quercetin through benesco™, our findings indicate that it did not provide a significant benefit over the placebo. This suggests that those struggling with reflux might not find relief from this particular natural alternative.
