Alpha-lipoic acid enhances wound healing
Lipoic acid improves wound healing through its immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects in a diabetic mouse model.
Most Relevant Research
We aimed to understand how alpha-lipoic acid (LA) affects wound healing in diabetic conditions. The study involved five groups of mice: healthy controls, wounded healthy mice, wounded diabetic mice, and two groups of wounded diabetic mice treated with different doses of LA for 14 days.

Our findings indicated that LA plays a significant role in improving the healing process. It works by balancing the levels of anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory factors that are essential for wound recovery. Specifically, we saw effects on various immune cell types that are vital for healing, indicating that LA may help to enhance recovery in diabetic wounds.

This study highlights the potential of LA as a supportive treatment option for wound healing in diabetic patients, ultimately aiming to reduce the risk of infections and improve overall recovery from injuries.

Works well for glucose control. Being menopausal and hypoglycaemic has made it challenging to lose weight. I now follow a keto lifestyle and take these pills at mealtimes twice daily, complemented by Berberine, Keto BHB, and Forskolin. This combination, along with my diet, has enabled me to lose 20lbs and over 25 inches while maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. The pills are a bit large but manageable. As noted on the bottle, consult your endocrinologist or PCP if you are treated for diabetes or glucose control!

Alpha-lipoic acid protects liver health
α-Lipoic Acid Ameliorates Arsenic-Induced Lipid Disorders by Promoting Peroxisomal β-Oxidation and Reducing Lipophagy in Chicken Hepatocyte.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the protective effects of alpha-lipoic acid (LA) against liver damage caused by arsenic, a well-known environmental toxin. In our examination, we uncovered the mechanisms through which arsenic harms the liver, including its ability to induce autophagy, apoptosis, and oxidative stress, as well as disrupt lipid metabolism.

Our findings revealed that arsenic negatively impacts liver function primarily by reducing the expression of SIRT1, damaging mitochondria, and impairing a process called peroxisomal β-oxidation. This disruption leads to an increase in lipid accumulation and enhances lipophagy, which is the body's way of breaking down fats. However, when we administered LA, we observed a marked improvement. LA appeared to counteract the damage inflicted by arsenic by boosting SIRT1 levels, improving mitochondrial function, and encouraging peroxisomal β-oxidation.

This study clearly illustrates the potential of alpha-lipoic acid as a protective agent against liver injury due to arsenic exposure. By promoting better lipid metabolism and reducing harmful fat buildup, LA could serve as a valuable option for those affected by liver diseases induced by environmental toxins.

A must. I never want to be without this one. I take one per day to heal my damaged liver due to fatty liver disease. This helps the entire body and I believe everyone should be taking it. It's a super antioxidant that does many things. I know of a doctor in Las Cruces who administers it in an IV to treat cancer, including pancreatic cancer.

Made the switch - and loving it. I used to take Genceutic Naturals R-Alpha Lipoic (300mg) and suffered from heartburn and acid reflux constantly. I switched to Jarrow’s sustain tablets and haven’t had any troubles since. While the tablets are a bit large, they are easy to swallow due to their coating. I would certainly recommend them!

Alpha-lipoic acid reduces AGEs
Alpha-Lipoic Acid Treatment Reduces the Levels of Advanced End Glycation Products in Type 2 Diabetes Patients with Neuropathy.
Most Relevant Research
We investigated the potential benefits of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) suffering from neuropathy. Over six months, we treated 54 patients with a daily dose of 600 mg of ALA while keeping their current oral medications unchanged. We also included a control group of 24 matched individuals who did not experience neuropathy.

Our findings showed a significant decrease in advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which are harmful compounds that can worsen diabetes complications. The levels of AGEs dropped from 11.89 to 10.95 AU/μg, reflecting the positive impact ALA treatment can have. Interestingly, while the levels of soluble receptor for AGEs (sRAGE) and the AGEs/sRAGE ratio did not show changes with ALA treatment, we did observe correlations between the reduction of AGEs and improvements in neuropathic symptoms and endothelial function.

Overall, our study supports the idea that ALA can effectively lower AGEs in T2DM patients with neuropathy, which could help improve their nerve function and overall health. This offers a promising avenue for managing such complications in diabetes.

Alpha Lipoic Sustain works GREAT! I take it to alleviate pain from idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. Prescription Lyrica didn't work well and caused side effects, muddling my thoughts! Alpha Lipoic Sustain is effective, and I take about 1,200 mg (or 4 tablets daily) without any side effects. Jarrow seems to be the best among the alpha lipoic acids I've tried.

Biotin therapy improves hair growth
Biotinidase deficiency characterized by skin and hair findings.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the effects of biotin treatment on hair loss through a case study of a girl diagnosed with biotinidase deficiency. Despite having no notable family history of the condition, her symptoms included problematic dermatitis, yellow hair, and alopecia.

After identifying low levels of biotinase and significant metabolic increases, the girl was found to have two specific mutations in her BTD gene linked to this deficiency. Following the diagnosis, we observed a clear response to biotin supplementation, with an initial dosage of 20 mg per day.

Remarkably, her dermatitis improved within a month, and her hair color returned to normal after three months of treatment. These findings suggest that biotin replacement therapy can have significant positive outcomes in cases related to biotinidase deficiency, connecting biotin to effective hair restoration.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid Shows Stroke Potential
Ischemic Microenvironment-Targeted Bioinspired Lipoprotein Sequentially Penetrates Cerebral Ischemic Lesions to Rescue Ischemic Stroke.
Most Relevant Research
We examined how alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) impacts stroke recovery, particularly through a newly developed delivery system designed to target ischemic brain lesions. This system uses bioinspired lipoproteins to carry ALA, allowing it to reach the areas most affected by stroke more effectively than standard methods.

In experiments with mice experiencing a transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (a model for stroke), we observed that the ALA-loaded lipoprotein system accumulated significantly in the ischemic brain tissue—2.29 times more than a nontargeted version. This increased delivery resulted in several positive outcomes, such as restoring neurological function, reducing brain cell death, and lessening inflammation, which is key for healing after a stroke.

Overall, our findings suggest that ALA, when delivered effectively to the right brain areas, has considerable potential to improve recovery from ischemic strokes. This innovative approach opens new avenues for treating strokes and enhancing patient outcomes.

Most Useful Review
I've been taking this for peripheral neuropathy for several years, and it significantly helps with the pain in my feet. However, if I forget to take it, I quickly feel the discomfort in my knee pain at night and often double my dosage for a day or two. My prescription medications don't alleviate this specific pain, and it was recommended by a nurse to those with diabetes.
