We investigated the potential of cyanocobalamin, or Vitamin B12, as a treatment for skin inflammation using a cutting-edge transdermal delivery system. The research focused on microneedle patches that effectively deliver this antioxidant form of Vitamin B12 into the skin.

Our findings highlighted reduced inflammation and damage in skin models, indicated by decreased cytokine levels and less oxidative stress. This approach may present a new, cost-effective method to enhance skin care for patients dealing with chronic inflammatory conditions.

However, it's important to note that while the results are promising, further studies are needed for broader applications.

We investigated the potential of vitamin B12 to mitigate anxiety in adult zebrafish subjected to chronic alcohol exposure. Our study involved exposing zebrafish to alcohol and then providing them with vitamin B12 to see if it would help reduce anxiety-related behaviors. By using a geotaxis test, we could observe how the fish responded in terms of anxiety in a controlled environment.

The effects were examined alongside oxidative stress and brain health, letting us delve into the biological changes that might occur due to both alcohol and vitamin treatment. The results indicated that chronic alcohol exposure did indeed affect brain function and behavior in the zebrafish. However, we found promising evidence that vitamin B12 operations as a neuroprotective agent, possibly offering relief from the anxiety associated with long-term alcohol use.

Our findings suggest that there may be valuable implications for using vitamin B12 in addressing anxiety related to chronic alcoholism, albeit further studies would be instrumental to fully understand its capabilities and mechanisms.

I find this product very useful. As an avid tennis player and Pilates enthusiast, I’ve had challenges including varicose veins in my right calf and discomfort in my knees and feet. A specialist discovered a blockage in a blood vessel in my thigh, necessitating the use of varicose vein socks for a considerable time. Although I have seen improvements from my meridian therapist, I sometimes still experience slight discomfort. Following the therapist's suggestion, I started taking B12 supplements from Now Foods. After a month and a half, I’ve felt significantly better. The pain in my adductor muscles has disappeared, and I no longer require treatment. I wear the varicose vein socks less frequently now, which is a relief, as they can be tiring. Just one pill daily is convenient and budget-friendly.

We explored innovative ways to improve cancer treatment by using folate-targeted nanoparticles. The study focused on the development of chitosan nanoparticles that mimic cell membranes, enhancing their ability to evade the immune system and prolong circulation in the body. By integrating folate, a nutrient known to target cancer cells, we hoped to increase the effectiveness of drug delivery directly to tumors.

Our findings revealed that these folate-targeted nanoparticles showed a remarkable capacity to be absorbed by breast cancer cells, specifically increasing uptake efficiency by five to six times compared to nanoparticles without folate. This was a significant boost, showcasing the potential of using folate as a guiding factor for cancer treatment.

Furthermore, the study demonstrated that these nanoparticles remained in the bloodstream for much longer, with their half-life extended from roughly 2.7 hours to nearly 13 hours. This means they can circulate longer and potentially reach tumors more effectively.

Ultimately, our research aims to pave the way for more efficient cancer therapies, highlighting how leveraging folate in nanoparticle design may provide a promising strategy in the fight against cancer.

We investigated the effects of folic acid treatment on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a condition where excess fat builds up in the liver, often linked to obesity and insulin resistance. Our research revealed that giving folic acid to mice on a high-fat diet helped improve their glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, alongside reducing unhealthy fat levels in their liver cells.

By diving into the mechanisms, we discovered that folic acid works by changing the DNA methylation patterns that regulate the expression of a protein called ALKBH5. This reduction in ALKBH5 levels led to an increase in a specific type of RNA modification and subsequently boosted the production of a protein called ATG12, which is vital for autophagy – the process that cleans up and recycles cellular components.

When we inhibited ATG12 through overexpression of ALKBH5, autophagy was impeded, showcasing how crucial ATG12 is for allowing folic acid to effectively reduce fat accumulation in the liver. Overall, these findings indicate that folic acid could be a promising nutritional ally in fighting NAFLD, revealing a clear mechanism by which it protects liver health.

We aimed to understand how folic acid might influence sexual function in postmenopausal women, a group that often experiences sexual dysfunction. For this investigation, we conducted a solid triple-blind randomized controlled trial in Tehran, Iran, involving 100 participants recruited from health centers. Each woman in the study received either 5 mg of folic acid or a placebo daily for eight weeks, always on an empty stomach.

To assess the impact of the treatment, we conducted evaluations using the Female Sexual Function Index at three different times: before the intervention began, then after four weeks, and again at eight weeks. The results indicated that folic acid may have a positive effect on sexual function, suggesting it could be a beneficial option for women navigating postmenopause.

While our findings are promising, they should be interpreted with caution due to the small sample size and relatively short follow-up period. Larger studies will be crucial to confirming these effects and paving the way for broader recommendations about folic acid as a treatment option for sexual health in postmenopausal women.

I took vitamin B12 during lunch, which is considered an optimal time. If stomach issues arise, it’s better to take it with food, as the vitamin is absorbed more effectively without causing stomach problems. The pill is small and easy to swallow, so there should be no issues. A doctor recommended vitamin B12 to me after I experienced an eye condition due to a burst vessel that needed a long recovery. After just a week of taking B12, I noticed significant improvements: the swelling in my eye reduced, and the redness from the burst vessel disappeared. My overall fatigue diminished, and I felt cheerier, with my mood improving noticeably within three weeks. My skin has become clearer, and remarkably, I didn't experience any facial rashes during this month—a rarity for me.

We explored the effectiveness of a special combination of micronutrients, including folate, in helping patients who suffer from recurrent upper respiratory tract infections, commonly known as colds. Our study involved 192 participants over 16 weeks in a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial that allowed us to compare results objectively.

The findings indicate that patients who had vitamin D deficiency or were low in vitamin C experienced significant benefits when taking the micronutrient combination, and symptoms improved notably compared to those on a placebo. Specifically, individuals with multiple cold symptoms showed greater relief in the active group, with a significant reduction in symptom intensity.

While folate was part of the mix, the study did not isolate its specific impact on cold symptoms. Instead, it highlighted the effectiveness of the whole nutrient combination in reducing the frequency of colds and the intensity of symptoms. Overall, those who received the micronutrient supplement reported improved health outcomes compared to those who didn't.

We explored the effectiveness of folate treatment in children with ear infections by evaluating hematologic abnormalities during antibiotic therapy. In a study involving 120 children with otitis media, we divided the participants into three groups: one received cotrimoxazole (the combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole), the second group received cotrimoxazole with folinic acid (a form of folate), and the third group was given amoxicillin.

We observed that 35% of children receiving cotrimoxazole alone developed neutropenia (a low level of neutrophils, which are essential for fighting infections), while only 17.5% in the cotrimoxazole plus folinic acid group experienced this issue. Early neutropenia was consistent among all groups and usually resolved on its own. However, late neutropenia, occurring after ten days, was specific to those treated with cotrimoxazole alone.

Importantly, the study indicated that the late neutropenia connected to cotrimoxazole use could be linked to a blockage in folinic acid metabolism. This suggests that adding folinic acid may help prevent this side effect. However, it’s worth noting that while folate treatment appears beneficial in reducing the risk of late neutropenia, the study did not isolate folate as a singular treatment for ear infections themselves.

Our investigation focused on the potential benefits of folic acid (FA) supplementary therapy in reducing the risk of gastric ulcers (GU). Using a method called Mendelian randomisation, we tapped into data from the UK Biobank, which provided a rich source of information for our analysis.

The analysis involved identifying seven genetic markers associated with FA supplementation. Through robust testing that included several statistical methods, we found that those genetically predisposed to higher FA intake had a significantly lower risk of developing GU.

Specifically, we observed that the odds of having a gastric ulcer dropped by about 13% among participants who were genetically linked to higher levels of FA supplementation. This finding remained consistent across various statistical approaches, reinforcing our confidence in the results.

Furthermore, we confirmed that no single genetic marker skewed the overall results, suggesting a reliable association. Overall, this study provides compelling evidence that supplementing our diet with folic acid could play a protective role against gastric ulcers.

We formulated a functional food product designed specifically for elderly individuals with Parkinson's disease, focusing on the common issue of constipation. Our approach involved creating a muffin recipe enriched with inulin, cacao, and Moringa, all of which play a role in supporting digestive health.

In this study, we conducted physical-chemical analyses to assess the nutritional components of the muffins, including soluble and insoluble fiber content. Our findings revealed a significant increase in fiber levels compared to control samples, which may alleviate constipation symptoms.

While we noted that the incorporation of inulin and cacao improved the muffins' nutritional value—particularly their dietary fiber and antioxidant properties—it’s essential to clarify that the specific role of folate, a nutrient present in these muffins, was not isolated in relation to constipation. However, the overall enhancements in fiber and nutrition could positively impact bowel health.

Sensory evaluations demonstrated a strong preference from participants, particularly for the muffins enriched with inulin and cacao, indicating potential acceptance of these products among the target population. Our study suggests that muffins fortified with these ingredients could be a practical dietary strategy to aid in managing constipation in individuals facing the challenges of Parkinson’s disease.

We investigated the effects of Folic Acid (FA) on chronic visceral pain linked to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Chronic visceral hyperalgesia (pain sensitivity) was induced in rats through neonatal colonic inflammation, enabling us to examine how FA might alleviate this condition.

Our findings indicated that patients with IBS had a higher diversity of intestinal bacteria, particularly those that produce hydrogen sulfide—a gas that has been connected to pain. We noted a significant correlation between the levels of hydrogen sulfide and the severity of visceral pain in these patients.

Interestingly, we found that the levels of Folic Acid were notably lower in the blood of IBS patients compared to those without IBS. Subsequent supplementation with FA showed promise, reducing chronic visceral pain in the rats and normalizing the abnormal increase in gas production. We also observed that this treatment minimized synaptic responses in the spinal neurons associated with visceral pain.

Overall, our research suggests that Folic Acid can play an important role in reducing chronic pain associated with IBS by lowering hydrogen sulfide production in the gut.

We set out to explore how dietary folate intake might influence severe headaches and migraines. Utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) collected between 1999 and 2004, we included a substantial sample of 4,107 participants in our analysis.

Our findings revealed that 704 individuals, which represents about 17.14%, reported experiencing severe headaches or migraines. After accounting for various factors, we found a noteworthy association between higher folate intake and reduced occurrences of these conditions. Specifically, the results showed that increasing levels of dietary folate were linked to a lower odds ratio of experiencing migraines—particularly pronounced among those with the highest folate intake.

The data suggested a linear and negative relationship, meaning that as folate intake increased, the likelihood of suffering from migraines decreased. This trend remained consistent across different analysis methods, indicating a robust connection worth noting for those seeking dietary strategies to manage or potentially reduce migraine occurrences.

We conducted a thorough investigation into how dietary components, particularly folate, relate to the severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in a group of adults living in Cyprus. Our study included a diverse sample of 303 participants aged over 18, who completed detailed food frequency and physical activity questionnaires, along with undergoing sleep studies to assess OSA severity.

In our analysis, we found that patients with more severe OSA, identified by a higher apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), had significant characteristics such as increased body mass index (BMI) and higher caloric intake. Interestingly, those with moderate to severe OSA reported higher folic acid consumption compared to those with milder forms of the condition.

This suggests that while greater energy intake appears to correlate with more severe OSA, a higher intake of folate may offer some protective benefits. However, it’s essential to note that we did not isolate the effects of folate alone, as other dietary factors were also at play in our findings, making further research necessary to draw stronger conclusions.

Overall, our results point towards the complexity of dietary influences on sleep apnea severity, highlighting folate as a potentially beneficial nutrient alongside other lifestyle factors.

We explored the intriguing case of a patient battling severe anemia after a COVID-19 infection. This patient exhibited both cold agglutinin and cryoglobulin, revealing some interesting findings when we examined their direct antiglobulin test results.

We noted that the test showed C3d positivity while being immunoglobulin G negative, indicating that the patient did not have evident hemolytic anemia or thrombosis. Interestingly, there was no clinically significant IgM monoclonal gammopathy reported, which suggests that the situation might not be as dire as it seems at first glance.

Treatment involved folic acid supplementation, which led to a noticeable improvement in the patient's anemia. Alongside this, we observed a decrease in the cold agglutination titer, and the direct antiglobulin test turned negative, hinting that folate may play a role in managing cold agglutinin-related issues, though it’s essential to view this within the broader context of other influences.

Despite the persistent cryoglobulinemia, the patient did not experience thrombosis or any significant complications. This case prompts us to carefully consider the use of immunosuppressive therapies for cold-related hematologic disorders following COVID-19, particularly as many factors may be at play in affecting patient outcomes.

We investigated how folate (FA) impacts osteoblasts, particularly under the influence of homocysteine (Hcy), which is linked to osteoporosis. In our study, we treated MC3T3-E1 cells—the classic model for studying bone formation—with different concentrations of FA and observed several key factors.

Our findings revealed that Hcy adversely affects osteoblasts in a dose-dependent manner. This included decreased cell density and reduced proliferation ability, which are crucial for healthy bone development. However, when we introduced FA, it not only helped protect the osteoblasts from undergoing apoptosis (or cell death) but also displayed a direct bone-forming effect.

Furthermore, we noticed that the beneficial effects of FA were associated with the inhibition of a stress pathway in the cells known as the PERK/ATF-4/CHOP pathway. By reducing stress within the endoplasmic reticulum—a critical site for proper protein folding and cell function—FA aids in maintaining the health and function of osteoblasts when faced with Hcy.

Overall, our research sheds light on how folate can serve as a promising factor in ameliorating the negative effects of homocysteine on bone cells, suggesting a potential avenue for preventing osteoporosis.

We conducted a review of randomized controlled trials to determine the effectiveness of vitamin B12 in treating postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), a painful condition following shingles. Our analysis included data from databases such as PubMed and Cochrane Library, focusing specifically on trials that measured pain relief outcomes.

Our findings indicate that vitamin B12 supplementation has a significant positive effect on reducing pain levels in PHN patients. In fact, those who received vitamin B12 experienced a notable decrease in pain compared to those on placebo, with a reduction in the pain score of about four points. This result suggests that vitamin B12 not only helps with pain relief but also enhances overall quality of life for individuals suffering from this distressing condition.

Additionally, we observed a drop in the number of patients relying on analgesics, pointing to a potential alternative treatment avenue with vitamin B12. Although the evidence is moderate in quality, it presents a compelling case for the use of vitamin B12 as a complementary therapy for managing pain associated with shingles.

We evaluated tinnitus severity through questionnaires at multiple intervals. However, our findings revealed that vitamin B12 did not significantly reduce tinnitus severity compared to the placebo.

Ultimately, our study suggests that vitamin B12 may not be a beneficial treatment for tinnitus, as the results showed no noteworthy improvements.

We sought to determine the impact of vitamin B12 (VB12) on sleep patterns in rats, particularly considering its potential benefits for those struggling with insomnia. By giving rats a daily intravenous dose of VB12, we monitored their sleep using polysomnographic recordings over a four-day period.

During our observations, we noticed a significant increase in non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep on the second and third days of VB12 administration. Interestingly, REM sleep also showed a notable boost on the second day. The enhancements in sleep were particularly evident during the light period, indicating that vitamin B12 could play a role in promoting sleep at those times.

Additionally, we found that the rats receiving vitamin B12 exhibited serum levels that were 40 times higher than those in control rats, suggesting a robust absorption and impact of the vitamin. Overall, our findings indicate that administering VB12 peripherally does have positive effects on sleep in rats, especially during the light hours.

We explored the potential of a folate-aminopterin construct, known as EC2319, in treating multiple sclerosis (MS) using a focal model in rats. Our study involved 40 Lewis rats, with some receiving the treatment and others serving as controls. This design allowed us to assess how effectively EC2319 could reduce inflammation and lesion development associated with a chronic progressive form of MS.

Interestingly, we found that EC2319 was well tolerated by the rats and significantly reduced both inflammation and lesion development, indicating a promising therapeutic avenue for MS. In our investigations, we also used a specific imaging method (Ga-FOL) to assess the inflammatory lesions, enhancing our understanding of the treatment’s effects.

Furthermore, we examined postmortem brain samples from MS patients and discovered that they contain FR-β-positive cells in areas of chronically active plaques. This finding suggests that the approach we tested in rats may have relevance for human patients, opening doors for future research into targeted treatments for MS.

We observed five notable cases of acneiform eruptions linked to vitamin B12 in women aged 21 to 62. These eruptions manifested between one week and five months after starting vitamin B12 therapy.

The primary symptoms consisted of papules and pustules appearing mainly on the face. In three of the patients, these skin issues also extended to areas like the neck, shoulders, chest, and upper back, but interestingly, there were no signs of comedones or cysts.

Out of the five women, two had particularly high levels of vitamin B12 in their blood. A closer look at one patient's skin under a microscope revealed eosinophilic folliculitis, a type of inflammation in hair follicles. Fortunately, all patients experienced spontaneous and complete recovery within three to six weeks after stopping vitamin B12 treatment.

Overall, while vitamin B12 did not provide a benefit for acne treatment, it highlighted an unusual side effect of acne-like symptoms in these cases.

We examined the relationship between folate and Alzheimer's disease (AD) through a comprehensive analysis combining data from various studies. Our findings indicate that folate may provide protective effects against Alzheimer's, which is promising for those concerned about this challenging condition.

Specifically, we noted that individuals with higher folate levels could experience a decreased risk of developing Alzheimer's. This suggests that ensuring adequate folate intake could be beneficial for brain health.

However, it’s essential to understand that the impact of folate isn't a cure-all. While the association with Alzheimer's is favorable, more research is needed to clarify how folate levels might influence the progression or onset of this complex disorder.

Overall, our analysis underscores the potential of folate as part of a broader strategy for supporting cognitive health as we age.

We explored a novel oral delivery system using vitamin B12, fucoidan, and concanavalin A to enhance insulin effectiveness for diabetes management. This smart nanosystem targets inflammation while regulating blood glucose levels efficiently. Our findings indicated that when tested on type I diabetic mice, the nanosystem significantly lowered blood sugar and reduced inflammatory markers, such as TNF-α and interleukin-6. Notably, the system ensures safe and effective delivery, presenting a promising alternative to traditional insulin methods.

We explored the effects of folic acid on hair loss in zebrafish larvae after exposure to different concentrations of ethanol. This study revealed how gestational ethanol exposure can harm the development of sensory hair cells. We found that even small amounts of ethanol lead to a significant decrease in hair cell count.

When we co-treated the larvae with folic acid while still exposing them to ethanol, we noted a modest increase in the number of hair cells compared to those that only received ethanol. However, despite these benefits, the hair cell counts after folic acid treatment were still significantly lower than those of the control group that did not receive any ethanol or treatment.

Unfortunately, despite folic acid showing some protective effects, the results suggest it may not be enough on its own to fully prevent hair cell loss induced by ethanol. Thus, while folic acid can have a positive influence, its isolated impact on hair loss is not entirely clear due to concurrent ethanol exposure in this study. Therefore, we conclude that while folic acid does offer some benefit, more effective protection against hair cell loss may come from other treatments, such as retinoic acid.

We examined the effects of dietary folate intake on severe headaches by analyzing data from a large national health survey. The study involved nearly 10,000 participants over the age of 20, where individuals self-reported their experiences with severe headaches.

Through sophisticated analysis methods, including multivariate logistic regression, we discovered that higher dietary folate intake appears to be associated with a lower likelihood of experiencing severe headaches. Specifically, participants who consumed more folate had significantly reduced odds of reporting severe headaches, with the most substantial impact seen in those with the highest intake levels.

Interestingly, we found that women aged 20 to 50 exhibited a non-linear association between folate and headache severity, suggesting that they might benefit from being more mindful of their folate consumption.

This research underscores the potential for dietary folate to play a protective role against severe headaches, encouraging individuals to consider increasing their folate intake for headache prevention.

We explored the effectiveness of high-dose vitamin B12 injections on chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) through two case reports that utilized N of 1 trials. This approach allowed us to make tailored treatment decisions based on individual responses to the therapy.

In one case, we found that high-dose vitamin B12 injections did not yield positive results, leaving the patient without significant relief from their symptoms. Conversely, in another case, we observed that nimodipine proved to be a very effective treatment for that patient’s chronic fatigue.

These findings suggest that while vitamin B12 may not be helpful for everyone suffering from CFS, other treatments like nimodipine can be beneficial. Thus, personalized treatment strategies are key in managing this complex and varied condition.

We explored the cost-effectiveness of different folic acid supplementation strategies aimed at preventing strokes in hypertensive individuals in China. By examining four policy options, we aimed to find the best approach to support stroke prevention while considering potential complications from undetected vitamin B12 deficiencies.

The policies varied from simply not addressing folate levels to providing targeted folate supplements after screening for B12 deficiencies. Our analysis, based on a five-year intervention modeled from the China Stroke Primary Prevention Trial, found that the most effective strategy combined folate supplementation with screening for both folate and B12 deficiencies.

This combination not only helped prevent strokes but also ensured that those with B12 deficiency received appropriate treatment. The implications of this research suggest that adopting integrated screening approaches could greatly enhance public nutrition strategies, ultimately saving costs and improving health outcomes for at-risk populations.

A very important vitamin! Vitamin B12 is essential for DNA synthesis, energy production, and maintaining normal nerve function. Along with other B vitamins, it plays a role in the folate cycle. Insufficient B12 can disrupt this process, leading to homocysteine accumulation. This can damage blood vessel walls, increasing the risk of atherosclerosis and blood clots, resulting in heart attacks or strokes. I trust Now Foods; the lozenges' shape is convenient, and the packaging is small. I recommend it!
