Amazing stuff

I purchased this for control of peripheral neuropathy. It worked well for that as my feet are now almost pain free....BUT some added benefits I was not counting on. I have been taking this for 4 months now. 1. Blood glucose control. Daily fasting glucose dropped at least 10-15 mg/dcl and am now running around 90 daily as opposed to 110-115. 2. My skin! I did not expect this! I didn't even think about this when I purchased this because I was focusing on the misery of my feet....but suddenly noted after probably 2 months of taking it that the RED sun damage on my arms, neck and legs is GONE!. And my brown ones have greatly faded! My skin easily looks 10 years younger. No effect on wrinkling, just coloration. If I can afford it, I will probably take this for life. I am an RN and usually skeptical about herbal or vitamin products, and will also throw in that when I temporarily ran out of this I bought some regular ( non-R) at CVS that did not work at all. MAJOR HAIR LOSS

I had been taking this supplement for a few months after suffering severe neuropathy after an accident/spinal cord injury. After a month or two I wrote a glowing review because the product was working great! It was fantastic for relieving my neuropathy as many others have claimed. HOWEVER, towards the end of month three my hair began to fall out drastically. Not just typical "shedding" but clumps of hair every day. I am talking the type of hair loss that a chemo patient would experience! After researching all of the supplements I am taking I learned that this is an unfortunate side effect of R-Lipoic acid due to the fact that it blocks the absorption of biotin. I didn't recall reading anything about this in any of the reviews prior to purchase. If you are taking this supplement and you begin to notice that you are losing hair, STOP TAKING IT IMMEDIATELY

I use it for blood sugar/carb control

I'm not a scientist or a researcher so if you're looking for science other reviewers have that covered. However, I am someone who wanted to lose weight and knew that keeping blood sugar stable is a huge factor in doing so. I was taking one pill 15 minutes before each meal and was maintaining a weight loss of 2-3 lbs a week (with minimal exercise due to injury) I stopped taking it for two weeks -- its the only thing I changed and I ended up *gaining* weight -- I started taking it again and the weight came right back off. Your mileage may vary, but for me this supplement really delivers (along with all the antioxidant benefits!

great stuff

So others have left reviews on the science behind this product. So I'm just going to say I had been taking regular alpha lipoic acid for years but had to stop because I developed extreme problems with acid reflux (among other issues) whenever I took it. A kind friend introduced me to this form of alpha lipoic acid and when I tried it I not only didn't have any of the reflux or sundry other problems with it, but I also found it much more effective than my original higher dosage of alpha lipoic acid. Also, for those with lots of allergy problems, I checked the doctor's best website and found it was listed as free of most of the common allergens (it lists specifics on their site). I'm fairly sensitive and have had issues with products that claimed to be allergen free in the past. However, I've had no problems with this product so far. so I highly recommend this product

Must take with Biotin

You must take Biotin when taking RALA. Biotin protects hair and nails from effects of RALA which is depleted by RALA. You will lose hair and nails will become brittle

Not just for making your pee more expensive

I've tried a few different brands and types of ALA and this is by far the best one that I have ever encountered and at a very good price especially if you subscribe. ALA is an interesting vitamin in that it comes in a variety of types even though most don't actually label which type you are getting. When traditional ALA is made synthetically it is a 50/50 blend of two different types of ALA ( R and S types). These types are mirror images of each other molecularly but, studies have shown that only the R type is actually used by the body though so most ALA supplements are actually only 50% effective and the S type is just turned into expensive pee. Some companies will filter out the R type which is better but even then most of the ALA that you take cannot be absorbed by the body. This is why this brand uses Sodium (Chemical symbol Na) to bond to the ALA which then lets the body absorb 250% more and let it actually get into the blood stream. So this product is actually chemically 5 times as effective as a R & S blend and 2.5 times more effective than an R-ALA vitamin. Search on PubMed or other medical journal sites and you'll find mountains of actual clinical evidence touting NA-R-ALA for many different reasons. I've been taking it very regularly since 12/2013 and its antioxident effects definitely have helped me stay and feel healthy even though everyone else was getting sick and it also was a clear trigger in helping me lose weight by stabilizing blood sugar levels. At first it did give me pretty bad stomach aches until I got use to it and now I can easily take it with no discomfort even without food

Great for Neuropathy

I have been using this product for about 6 months now and it works in helping my neuropathic pain. I suffer from fibromyalgia in addition to chronic neuropathic pain and was suggested from friends to try ALA instead of prescription medication. I couldn't tolerate the side effects of Gabapentin so I decided to give it a try and was amazed at the results in just a matter of days. I tried the regular ALA to begin with and then decided to go with the R-ALA, honestly I can't tell much difference but after reading reviews it seems the (R) works better or is better. Some days my pain is so bad I can't walk, the bottoms of my feet hurt but this has taken that away. All I can say is if you suffer from neuropathic pain, you should try this

Firms and tightens skin – I am not exaggerating!!

Visible effects!! Yes, truly. I take 2 a day: tightens my jaw line and decreases size of pores. To paraphrase Dr. Perriscone, MD: If something makes your skin look better, it's good for your whole body, because skin is an excellent barometer of health. Also: read Steve Gibson's review here on this Amazon site page (or section of pages). His review is excellent, backed by thorough research - written clearly and with admirable wit!! Regular intake of Dr.'s Best R-Lipoic gives a nice energy boost and clears out the mental cobwebs. Kind of like taking 10 to 20 years of aging effects off and returning to a more vigorous version of oneself!

Has helped my mom's painful diabetic feet!

My elderly mom suffers from severe diabetic neuropathy in her feet and legs. I read the other reviews here and decided to convince her to give this a try. Gradually, day by day, her feet are getting better and better and not bothering her, which is somewhat miraculous as she has suffered so much with neuropathy and traditional meds have not helped. This also regulates/lowers your blood glucose, so be careful. My mom has had a couple of low sugar episodes because she's been taking this and it's lowered her sugar and so her insulin now needs to be adjusted. She's gone from having sugar ranges of 250-350 to having 70-120. 70 is of course too low so we have to get her readjusted, but taking less insulin is good news in my opinion. When my doctor refused to treat my hideous peripheral neuropathy with powerful narcotics, I turned to alternative medicine and supplements. I was ale to find some measure of relief in meditation, alpha lipoic acid, benfotiamine, a vitamin B complex, and cayenne fruit tablets. For several months I was on regular ALA, and my pain levels dropped dramatically. When I discovered r-ALA I immediately ordered several bottles. I figured hey, this stuff is more bioavailable so it must be better! Well, in my case this wasn't so. There seems to be a limit to the amount of ALA that can be utilized by the body at any given time, and regular, quality ALA seems to provide enough. The only change I have noticed since going on three of these capsules twice a day is that my urine is bright yellow like the powder and smells really strong like asparagus. I had this before on regular ALA, but it increased significantly when I switched to this stuff, hence my theory. I received no additional pain relief, in fact I think it's increased a bit. So if it works for you, great! I definitely encourage you to try it because ALA is probably the closest thing we have to a fountain of youth. Just keep an open mind and don't be afraid to go back to regular ALA if you aren't seeing any more benefits or notice large amounts of it just cruising right through you
