Healing for skin
Most Useful Review
I've been taking Jarrow Formulas Acetyl L-Carnitine 500 in conjunction with Evening Primrose Oil, Coenzyme Q10, and Vitamin K. They each have healing properties, but together, they contribute significantly to healing my skin and combatting my acne. In a few weeks, I'll be wearing short-sleeved tops again!

Life-changing supplement
Most Useful Review
Best supplement out there. Carnitine has transformed my life. I've struggled with anxiety, depression, and low energy, but this has changed everything. I have tried numerous anxiety medications and antidepressants without success. Give it a few weeks to adjust, and you'll notice a difference. I like to take these before exercising as they give me an extra boost.

Helps manage symptoms
Most Useful Review
Great for hyperthyroid patients. After doing my research, I learned this is one of the best natural supplements for those with an over-active thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or thyroid nodules. It can actually prevent a dangerous thyroid storm. I'm trying to reduce my anti-thyroid medications, which can damage the liver, so I've incorporated this supplement into my daily routine. It's a quality product and is helping to alleviate my thyroid-induced anxiety, palpitations, and other symptoms. While it's not a cure, it assists in managing the symptoms effectively, supported by plenty of scientific evidence.

Improves brain health
Most Useful Review
Acetyl L-Carnitine is renowned for "protecting the brain." It successfully traverses the blood-brain barrier, detoxifying brain cells and potentially regenerating neurons harmed by free radicals. For those suffering from Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or cognitive impairments, it might assist in slowing down progression or even reversing damage. By detoxifying brain cells, it aids in enhancing brain function. While it may also aid in cataracts prevention by increasing glutathione levels, the direct correlation remains uncertain. I developed cataracts in my 30s, and after using numerous supplements, surgery was ultimately necessary. However, Acetyl L-Carnitine is an excellent addition to any eye care regimen.

It was recommended to strengthen the brain's blood vessels. My acupuncturist suggested this to help counteract the debilitating effects of frequent migraines. It appears to work, but it's difficult to ascertain.

Slight nausea response
Most Useful Review
Warning. I had a reaction and don't know if it's this product too. I experienced dizziness, nausea and confusion. I know this product is a great help to ADD ADHD people, of which I am one, but be cautious. If your body doesn't need it, it may be problematic. I do take five drugs which might interact with the pill. If you try it, don't worry; the symptoms clear in one day. My nausea and confusion were slight, but my dizziness was intense. Later, I had a stress reaction to many things going on in my life that caused the muscles in my neck to spasm, likely prompting my symptoms. A deep muscle massage seemed to alleviate them.

Warning. I had a reaction and experienced dizziness, nausea, and confusion. I know this product may help individuals with ADD/ADHD, of which I am one, but caution is advised. I take multiple medications which might interact. The symptoms cleared within a day, but my dizziness was intense. Also, a stress reaction later caused muscle spasms in my neck, which potentially contributed to my symptoms.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine affects hypothyroidism
Acetyl-L-carnitine increases cytochrome oxidase subunit I mRNA content in hypothyroid rat liver.
Most Relevant Research
We examined how acetyl-L-carnitine influences hypothyroidism, particularly focusing on its impact on liver mitochondria. In our study, we measured the amount of messenger RNA for cytochrome oxidase subunit I in the livers of hypothyroid rats.

After treating the rats with acetyl-L-carnitine, we observed a significant increase in the mRNA levels just three hours post-treatment. This improvement in gene expression suggests that acetyl-L-carnitine may promote mitochondrial function even in altered metabolic states.

Interestingly, even rats that were pre-treated with T3, a thyroid hormone, showed similar positive effects when administered acetyl-L-carnitine. These findings lend further support to the idea that acetyl-L-carnitine can stimulate important processes in mitochondria, especially under conditions like hypothyroidism.

Interferes with Synthroid
Most Useful Review
Not suitable for those on hypothyroidism medication. I felt odd within days of using this. Research revealed it interfered with Synthroid. I utilise Amazon's reviews, so I thought I’d share this in case anyone is considering it for hypothyroidism-related fatigue. Good luck on your health journey!
