CoQ10 ineffective for mitochondrial sleep apnea
Mitochondrial encephalomyopathy with sleep apnea.
We examined a rare case of mitochondrial encephalomyopathy featuring multiple complications including sleep apnea, cerebellar ataxia, and peripheral neuropathy—a combination never before documented in medical literature. The patient received six months of coenzyme Q10 therapy to address the underlying mitochondrial dysfunction.
Unfortunately, the treatment proved ineffective. Neither the cerebellar ataxia nor the abnormal pyruvate metabolism improved with CoQ10 supplementation. While sleep apnea was identified as a significant prognostic factor in this mitochondrial disorder, the supplement failed to alleviate this serious breathing complication or other associated symptoms.

Useful, I have AIT. Thanks to iHerb and the reviews, I decided to order Q10 100mg. In the first week, I felt a bit strange, with a buzzing in my head. However, I then felt rejuvenated; my sleep returned to normal, and I wake joyfully in the morning (anyone with AIT will understand). I have ample energy now, no longer feel drowsy during the day, and, crucially, my blood pressure normalised. On the advice of Omega, I also take MK 7 and D. I genuinely appreciate the improvements in my quality of life.
