Taking this supplement daily is entirely comfortable. I have no nausea at all; my stomach accepts the whole capsule perfectly. For me, this form is more suitable. There are no signs of selenium overdose, despite the high dosage. I've noticed that my overall condition improves when taking this selenium; I feel more vigorous, and my mood is more stable. I’m health-conscious, and selenium is beneficial for appearance too; they say it slows down the ageing process, which would be splendid. Hair growth is certainly accelerated; after a recent haircut, it grew back quickly, although I'd prefer thickness over speed at this point.

We conducted a study with eighty-four postmenopausal women to see how vitamin E affects hot flashes, among other health markers. The participants were divided into three groups and received either Vitamin E, Curcumin, or a placebo for eight weeks.

Our findings revealed that vitamin E significantly reduced the frequency of hot flashes by nearly one-third compared to those taking the placebo. This reduction was accompanied by improvements in several health indicators, including lower serum triglyceride levels and enhanced high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.

Furthermore, vitamin E also showed positive effects on liver health markers. Overall, it appears that vitamin E is effective not only in alleviating hot flashes but also in improving some aspects of the lipid profile in postmenopausal women, without adverse effects on liver or kidney function.

I purchased selenium from iHerb based on a friend's recommendation due to the high levels of healthy minerals found in centenarians, especially selenium. Our Selenium Super Complex offers three forms of selenium and vitamin E for health and longevity, which is essential for me at my age, dealing with menopause and hot flashes. Since using this complex, symptoms like hot flashes, weakness, and dizziness have disappeared. I realised this complex assists the body in combating oxidative damage. You only need to take it once a day; there are 100 capsules in a jar, sufficient for three months.

This study focused on how selenium-loaded porous silica nanospheres (Se@PSN) could help repair the heart following a myocardial infarction (MI). These tiny particles are designed to neutralize harmful molecules called reactive oxygen species, which play a significant role in heart damage during MI.

We found that Se@PSN not only reduces cellular damage but also promotes the production of protective antioxidant proteins. By enhancing mitochondrial function, these nanospheres could potentially preserve heart function after an MI, demonstrating promising results for future treatments.

We examined how selenium, a trace element known for its role in health, can help those suffering from allergic dermatitis. In our exploration, we focused on how selenium nanoparticles, specifically designed for easier manufacturing and use, can activate the body's natural defenses against allergies.

The study highlighted how selenium impacts allergic reactions by enhancing the production of selenoproteins, which are crucial in regulating inflammation and oxidative stress. We saw that these selenium nanoparticles effectively inhibited mast cell activation. Mast cells are known to release substances that can trigger allergic reactions, so by reducing their activation, the potential for severe allergic responses decreased.

Additionally, through a series of experiments on allergic mouse models, we confirmed the nanoparticles increased selenium levels in the skin, which led to a reduction in inflammatory cells and mast cell activation. The results indicated significant therapeutic benefits, providing a promising avenue for managing allergic reactions.

Ultimately, this study not only demonstrates the innovative use of selenium nanoparticles in treating allergies but also emphasizes the importance of scaling up their production for broader clinical application.

We explored the impact of selenium nanoparticles, known for their potential anti-cancer properties, on aggressive prostate cancer cells, specifically the PC-3 line. The study focused on understanding how sub-toxic levels of selenium functionalized nanoparticles affect cell proliferation and their intracellular behavior.

By utilizing advanced imaging techniques and careful cryopreparation, we aimed to preserve the integrity of the cancer cells while analyzing the distribution of these nanoparticles within them. Our findings revealed that nanoparticles coated with bovine serum albumin (BSA) reduced the migration capability of the cancer cells more effectively than those coated with chitosan.

This difference may be attributed to the BSA coating's ability to prevent harmful interactions with the cell membranes, which in turn limits the generation of reactive oxygen species that can damage cells. Most intriguingly, we observed that these selenium nanoparticles localized in both the mitochondria and lysosome-related organelles within the cells. The presence of nanoparticles in the mitochondria might explain the significant reduction in the PC-3 cells' ability to proliferate.

Overall, our investigation highlights the promising role selenium nanoparticles can play in cancer treatment strategies, providing valuable insights for further research into their cytotoxic mechanisms against prostate cancer.

We explored how selenium supplementation might help individuals suffering from Graves' orbitopathy, an autoimmune disorder linked to thyroid dysfunction. Our approach involved a systematic review and meta-analysis that assessed results from four randomized controlled trials.

The findings revealed that selenium supplementation had a significant positive impact on various aspects of Graves' orbitopathy. Over a period of six months, patients taking selenium showed a notable reduction in clinical activity scores, which reflect the severity of eye symptoms. Furthermore, their quality of life also improved significantly.

We observed improvements not only in the overall quality of life specific to eye conditions, but also in visual and psychological functioning scores. Additionally, selenium appeared to reduce the width of the eyelids, providing further benefits for eye-related symptoms. However, we found no significant changes in other areas, such as eye bulging or muscle movement abilities.

Importantly, selenium supplementation was deemed safe with minor side effects reported, suggesting it could be a viable option for managing Graves' orbitopathy. While our results are promising, we believe further research is needed to thoroughly validate the long-term effectiveness and safety of selenium treatment for this condition.

We delved into the potential of a synthetic organic selenium compound, known as p,p'-methoxyl-diphenyl diselenide, or (MeOPhSe), to combat candidiasis, particularly focusing on its effects on Candida krusei. This research is important because Candida species can lead to both mild and serious infections, and finding effective treatments is crucial.

Our study demonstrated that (MeOPhSe) is non-toxic to human cells, such as cervical epithelial and fibroblastic cells, and has a notable antifungal effect. We observed that it inhibited the growth of C. krusei in a dose-dependent manner, altering its growth pattern and extending the length of its lag phase. Most significantly, we found that this compound reduced the ability of both C. krusei and C. albicans to adhere to human cells, a critical step in the infection process.

The reductions we measured were substantial: C. krusei adherence dropped by 37.24%, while C. albicans showed a 32.84% reduction, both being statistically significant. Interestingly, both species responded similarly to (MeOPhSe), highlighting its potential as a broad-spectrum antifungal agent against various Candida infections.

Overall, our findings suggest that (MeOPhSe) holds promise as an antifungal treatment targeting the virulence factors of different Candida species, paving the way for new treatment options in battling candidiasis.

We examined the role of selenium in treating myocardial infarction (MI), a major cause of death worldwide that can lead to serious heart problems. The study focused on how this antioxidant works across different phases of a heart attack, where harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a significant role in worsening the condition.

Our findings highlighted a new approach using selenium-embedded nanoparticles, which are specially designed to act as antioxidants at various stages of MI. This innovative method allows for selective ROS elimination when it's most needed, leading to impressive recovery outcomes for the heart.

Throughout the research, it became clear that these nanoparticles help protect vital functions in heart cells by reducing cell death, inflammation, and scar tissue, while also encouraging new blood vessel growth. Overall, this self-sustaining antioxidant strategy shows great potential, not just for treating heart attacks but also inspiring therapies for other ischemic conditions.

We explored the effects of selenium supplementation in patients suffering from Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT), a leading cause of hypothyroidism. By analyzing multiple randomized controlled trials, we aimed to see how selenium might impact thyroid function, particularly focusing on thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels and thyroid antibodies.

Our analysis included results from 35 studies, where we observed that selenium supplementation led to a notable decrease in TSH levels among patients not undergoing thyroid hormone replacement therapy. This suggests that selenium may help manage thyroid function in specific populations.

Additionally, we found that selenium also reduced levels of thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) and malondialdehyde (MDA), which indicates improved thyroid health and reduced oxidative stress. Interestingly, we observed that these benefits occurred irrespective of whether patients were receiving thyroid hormone therapy.

However, we did not find significant changes in other thyroid hormones or immune markers, indicating that while selenium can be effective in some areas, its benefits may not extend across all measures of thyroid health. Overall, our findings support the safe use of selenium in lowering TSH and certain antibodies in HT patients not on hormone therapy.

We investigated how selenium-infused bandages can help prevent bacterial infections in wounds. By attaching organo-selenium compounds to cotton fabric, we created a bandage designed to kill harmful bacteria, including strains resistant to traditional antibiotics, like MRSA.

In our study, we used a mouse model to simulate wound infections. We placed the selenium-coated bandages on wounds and introduced bacteria directly into the area underneath the bandages. After five days, we examined the wounds and the bandages for signs of bacterial growth.

Remarkably, we observed that the bandages effectively protected the wounds, showing no bacterial presence after the five days of monitoring. This suggests that selenium remains effective even after washing, potentially offering a new approach to managing infections in medical settings.

We set out to explore the effects of selenium-containing compounds on breast cancer cells, particularly focusing on their potential as treatments. Our research involved testing several novel selenoesters on two breast cancer cell lines, MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231, to understand how these compounds can impact cell growth and survival.

What we found was quite promising. The selenoesters showed significant cytotoxic effects, meaning they can kill cancer cells effectively, even at very low doses. We observed that these compounds triggered important processes that lead to cell death, specifically by activating pathways that make cells undergo apoptosis, or programmed cell death.

The mechanisms at play include both the extrinsic and intrinsic apoptosis pathways, which means they are working from multiple angles to combat cancer. Additionally, these compounds also activate autophagy, a process that helps clear out damaged cells and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the treatment.

In summary, our findings suggest that these selenium-based compounds could be valuable candidates for future breast cancer therapies, worth considering in the ongoing fight against this disease.

We examined how a selenium-containing drug, known as RuSe, targets cancer cells while sparing normal cells. This innovative approach leverages the unique properties of selenium, specifically its electrophilic center, to create oxidative stress within cancer cells. By shuttling electrons from biological electron donors, the drug activates a sequence of events detrimental to cancer survival.

The results were striking; we found that the rate of electron transfer at the selenium site is significantly higher in cancer cells compared to normal cells—1.81 times greater, to be precise. This selective action leads to a lethal effect, with the drug being 14.98 times more harmful to cancer cells than to their healthy counterparts. We observed that the generation of superoxide anions from this process causes DNA damage and triggers the p53 signaling pathway, which enhances the drug's effectiveness in killing cancer cells.

Our findings offer an exciting new avenue for crafting chemotherapeutic agents that can be both efficient and less toxic. By exploiting the special properties of selenium, we open the door to more intelligent and targeted cancer therapies that could reduce side effects for patients.
