Melatonin delivery enhances sleep
Silk fibroin microneedles loaded with melatonin for circadian rhythm regulation.
Most Relevant Research
We developed a new way to deliver melatonin for those struggling with insomnia by creating microneedles made from silk fibroin. These tiny needles are designed to improve how the body absorbs melatonin, making it easier for people to get to sleep and stay asleep.

Our research shows that these microneedles can release melatonin steadily over a period of 11 hours. When we tested it on animals, we found that the microneedles maintained stable levels of drug in the bloodstream for up to 8 hours. This is promising news for individuals who may need help with their sleep cycles.

Additionally, the microneedles not only helped regulate sleep but also made a noticeable difference in anxiety levels in insomnia model rats. By improving the disrupted circadian rhythms, melatonin loaded into these microneedles could lead to significant therapeutic benefits.

We believe this innovative approach could enhance patient compliance and provide effective sleep aid for many in need. It’s an exciting development in the field of transdermal drug delivery for improving sleep quality and overcoming insomnia.

Wonderful insomnia relief
Most Useful Review
Helped with my insomnia. I have been using melatonin for my insomnia for about a month, as my doctor recommended. Thankfully, it has been working wonderfully! It’s crucial to take it 1-2 hours before you plan to fall asleep and not to overdo it, as a tolerance can build. I’ve always trusted this brand of supplements and have never been let down.

Melatonin mitigates flu-induced lung injury
Melatonin alleviates lung injury in H1N1-infected mice by mast cell inactivation and cytokine storm suppression.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the potential of melatonin as a treatment for H1N1 flu infection. In our study, we found that melatonin, a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound, could significantly protect against the flu in both laboratory tests and in living mice.

Our findings showed that higher local levels of melatonin in the nose and lungs correlated with lower death rates from the virus. In fact, melatonin-deficient mice had much higher mortality rates, which were notably reduced when treated with melatonin.

We discovered that melatonin primarily works by targeting mast cells, which are important players in the body’s immune response. By suppressing the activation of these cells after H1N1 infection, melatonin helps control the release of inflammatory proteins, leading to less damage in lung tissue. This mechanism highlights how melatonin treatment can prevent serious lung injury caused by the virus, opening up new avenues for post-flu recovery strategies.

Effective for reflux
Most Useful Review
Awesome for reflux. My doctor suggested I try melatonin to assist with acid reflux due to my hiatal hernia. I take one pill every night, and my reflux symptoms remain under control. The melatonin strengthens the opening of the sphincter muscle where the hernia is, resulting in less acid reflux. Better than any prescription acid reflux medication I have ever taken. Very pleased with this!

Melatonin reduces reflux esophagitis damage
Melatonin protects against experimental reflux esophagitis.
Most Relevant Research
We explored how melatonin can protect the esophagus from reflux esophagitis (RE), a condition where stomach contents flow back into the esophagus, often causing painful inflammation. In our research with rats, we found that melatonin pretreatment resulted in significantly fewer bleeding lesions and lower levels of harmful lipid peroxidation typically caused by RE.

Additionally, melatonin helped replenish important antioxidants in the esophagus, suggesting its potential to neutralize free radicals that contribute to tissue damage. As we delved into the immune response, we observed that melatonin decreased the levels of certain pro-inflammatory cytokines, like TNF-alpha and IL-6, while keeping the levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 steady.

Interestingly, when we tested a melatonin receptor blocker, luzindole, we discovered that this approach did not hinder melatonin's protective effects. This indicates that melatonin works its magic in a receptor-independent way as well, not just through its antioxidant properties but also by modulating inflammation. Overall, we found that melatonin could be a beneficial ally for those suffering from reflux esophagitis, providing insights for future treatment strategies.

Agomelatine relieves hypnic headaches
Case report: Hypnic headache responds to agomelatine-a potential prophylactic treatment option.
Most Relevant Research
We explored how melatonin-based treatments, particularly agomelatine, can affect headaches, focusing on hypnic headaches (HH). This form of headache typically occurs during sleep, disrupting the rest of those affected. A fascinating case of a 58-year-old woman who experienced these nocturnal headaches for three years demonstrated the potential benefits of agomelatine.

After being prescribed 25 mg of agomelatine at bedtime, she reported an impressive 80% reduction in headache frequency and severity within a month. Remarkably, her headaches completely resolved after three months, allowing her to discontinue the medication.

This case highlights the importance of exploring prophylactic treatments aimed at reducing nighttime awakenings caused by HH. Given the significant impact these headaches can have on sleep quality in older populations, treatments that target melatonin receptors could offer a promising avenue for relieving this condition.

3mg dosage issues
Most Useful Review
The product is as described, however, I always experience headaches with 3 mg of melatonin. If you're trying melatonin for the first time, I recommend starting with 1 mg and increasing as needed. I have switched to valerian root, which is milder and does not cause headaches.
