Melatonin

Sleep onset improvement
Most Useful Review
What can I say? This melatonin truly helps! My son has autism and consequently struggles with sleep. Since giving him this melatonin, he falls asleep within 30 minutes. I follow a specific routine, putting him to bed and administering the melatonin while keeping the room dark. It's been two weeks now; I'm considering a break from it. I took it upon my doctor's recommendation, and I appreciate that it’s non-addictive!

Helps with sleep
Most Useful Review
Excellent! This dietary supplement is highly effective! My husband’s child has autism and often struggles with sleep. After coming across this melatonin, I decided to try it for our 8-year-old. It works wonders, especially during times of strong over-excitement. We see results within an hour. I tried it on myself first and increased the dose to four, and the taste is pleasant, like candy, which makes it easy for the child to take!

Inositol

Increased speech
Most Useful Review
My child has autism, speaks very little, and mostly communicates through gestures. After a month on this supplement, he began to speak a great deal, articulating poems and stories. I can hardly believe that such remarkable progress has stemmed solely from this dietary supplement. Why wasn't this suggested to us sooner?

Acetyl L Carnitine

8.5
Effective energy support
Most Useful Review
Great cellular energy booster! We use this for cellular energy support for autism (1 capsule per day for 5-9 years). Works well for us, but it depends on individual needs. It doesn’t suit the rest of the family. These are large capsules that should ideally be swallowed, as the Acetyl L-Carnitine is not particularly water-soluble. They can be opened, but it tends to create a mess when mixed with water for a partial dose. If you struggle with adult-sized capsules, this may not be suitable for you. I trust NOW brand for purity and have had no issues. Good value for money, even if there are better options, and the product ships well. Overall, a solid product at a fair price if it fits your needs.

Folic Acid

7.5
Improved medication absorption
Most Useful Review
My 12-year-old son is on the autism spectrum and suffers from eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). He takes several medications for his autism symptoms but has a limited diet because of his condition. Although he isn't diagnosed with anxiety or ADHD, his autism leads to such symptoms due to executive functioning difficulties. His poor diet causes low folate and iron levels, adversely affecting his mood. A DNA test revealed he poorly processes folate, hindering medication absorption. The neuropsychiatrist suggested augmenting his medications with an L-methylfolate supplement, which could enhance medication effectiveness and overall health. Initially, we faced challenges getting this supplement prescribed, leading to dosage adjustments over a year. We usually take breaks from his medications in summer, and I recalled wanting to try this methylfolate for its benefits on energy, focus, and mood.

B12

4
Vitamin B12's impact on autism
Serum interleukin-17 A and homocysteine levels in children with autism.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the connection between vitamin B12 levels and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) symptoms in children. In our research, we compared two groups: 50 children with ASD and 50 healthy children.

We found that children with ASD had lower serum levels of vitamin B12 and higher levels of homocysteine (Hcy) compared to those in the control group. Interestingly, there was a pattern observed; those with more severe autism symptoms had even lower vitamin B12 and folate levels but higher Hcy and IL-17 A levels.

This suggests that low vitamin B12 and high Hcy might be associated with the severity of ASD symptoms. While this study highlights potential links, it does not firmly conclude that vitamin B12 treatment will be effective for managing autism symptoms, as the interaction of various factors still needs consideration.

Improved academic skills
Most Useful Review
I have bought this product several times and really like it. My son, who has autism and doesn't speak, was advised by a psychiatrist to take methylcobalamin to enhance his cognitive function. Since starting this medication, he has excelled in his studies, particularly in mathematics. Although he began speaking at 8, by 10, his vocabulary had expanded significantly, which I believe is partly thanks to methylcobalamin.

L Carnosine

L-Carnosine reduces anxiety in autism
Oral Supplementation of L-Carnosine Attenuates Acute-Stress-Induced Corticosterone Release and Mitigates Anxiety in CD157 Knockout Mice.
Most Relevant Research
We assessed the impact of L-carnosine on anxiety behaviors in a specific mouse model of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study focused on CD157 knockout (KO) mice, which exhibit characteristics relevant to autism.

Interestingly, we observed that oral supplementation of L-carnosine effectively reduced the release of corticosterone, a stress hormone, in response to acute stress situations. This hormone is essential in understanding stress-related disorders, including anxiety.

Furthermore, our findings highlight that L-carnosine appears to alleviate anxiety-like behaviors in these mice. This suggests that by regulating stress responses, L-carnosine could potentially serve as a beneficial supplement for individuals with ASD experiencing anxiety.

This supplement is excellent for addressing brain dysfunction, and we observed commendable results in my nephew with autism, particularly when combined with lipoic acid and DHA. Improvement was noticeable within a few days, and we plan to continue using it to support cognitive function and prevent Alzheimer's.
