Improved medication absorption

My 12-year-old son is on the autism spectrum and suffers from eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). He takes several medications for his autism symptoms but has a limited diet because of his condition. Although he isn't diagnosed with anxiety or ADHD, his autism leads to such symptoms due to executive functioning difficulties. His poor diet causes low folate and iron levels, adversely affecting his mood. A DNA test revealed he poorly processes folate, hindering medication absorption. The neuropsychiatrist suggested augmenting his medications with an L-methylfolate supplement, which could enhance medication effectiveness and overall health. Initially, we faced challenges getting this supplement prescribed, leading to dosage adjustments over a year. We usually take breaks from his medications in summer, and I recalled wanting to try this methylfolate for its benefits on energy, focus, and mood.
