We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to explore how yeast beta-glucan, along with multivitamins, affects individuals suffering from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). In our study, 65 participants received either beta-glucan combined with vitamins and zinc or a placebo for 36 weeks.

Interestingly, while our primary focus was on beta-glucan, which was shown to significantly improve cognitive fatigue, the role of vitamin D3 within this combination was not clearly established. This makes it challenging to directly assess the impact of vitamin D3 alone on chronic fatigue syndrome outcomes.

We conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate the effects of an oral food supplement (OFS) on long COVID patients, particularly focusing on chronic inflammation and fatigue. The supplement included components like rosehip, propolis, royal jelly, and zinc, with vitamin C being a key ingredient.

Through our two-month study, which involved giving participants either the OFS or a placebo, we made some interesting observations. Notably, patients who took the OFS experienced a significant reduction in inflammatory markers, which are often linked to chronic fatigue syndrome. This included improvements in the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratios.

We also noted a substantial increase in vitamin D levels among those taking the supplement, which correlated with enhanced quality of life and decreased fatigue as measured by the fatigue severity scale. Our findings suggest that the combination of ingredients in the OFS, particularly its vitamin D content, can help alleviate some symptoms associated with long COVID, especially chronic fatigue.

However, since the supplement included multiple active ingredients, isolating the specific impact of vitamin D on chronic fatigue syndrome is challenging. Still, the overall results indicate positive changes for patients dealing with the lingering effects of COVID.

We examined the impact of vitamin B12 nasal drops on individuals suffering from myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). Our study involved fifty-one patients, predominantly female, with an average age of 42 and an average illness duration of 16 years.

After three months of treatment, we measured their vitamin B12 serum levels, physical activity, and fatigue and concentration levels. Interestingly, we found that the participants who responded positively to the treatment experienced significant improvements in their vitamin B12 levels, daily step count, and overall physical activity. Moreover, those who reported a positive response noted a decrease in fatigue levels.

On the flip side, those categorized as non-responders had only a modest increase in vitamin B12 levels, with no notable improvement in other measures. Overall, our findings suggest that nasal drops could serve as a viable alternative to vitamin B12 injections, especially since around two-thirds of participants reported feeling better after treatment. This pilot study opens up new avenues for interventions in managing ME/CFS and highlights the importance of considering alternative treatment methods.

I have used this product repeatedly as I suffered from chronic constipation and required magnesium. I usually consume seaweed like wakame and hijiki, but I also take supplements. However, these tablets are rather large and occasionally get stuck in my throat, perhaps due to their size and my age. It would be beneficial if they could be made smaller and allow for the intake of two tablets at a time.

We aimed to evaluate how folic acid, in combination with vitamin B12, impacts individuals with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). Our study focused on a group of 38 patients who had received weekly B12 injections for six months to several years.

During our research, we categorized the patients into two groups: Good responders and Mild responders, based on their improvement in symptoms. We found that those who responded positively had received B12 injections more frequently and at higher doses compared to those with lesser improvement. They also tended to use more folic acid daily and were less likely to use strong analgesics.

Our findings suggested a clear relationship between the dosage of B12 and folic acid and the degree of improvement reported by the participants. However, we noted a higher occurrence of fibromyalgia among those with milder responses, indicating that the presence of additional conditions might affect outcomes.

Overall, we observed a dose-response effect suggesting that B12 and folic acid together could bring about meaningful improvements in CFS symptoms. Also, we identified the importance of being aware of possible thyroid issues and highlighted the need for more precise research regarding their interaction with other medications.

We conducted a randomized controlled trial to explore whether L-carnosine could significantly improve symptoms associated with Gulf War illness (GWI), a condition characterized by disabling fatigue, pain, and cognitive dysfunction.

In this 12-week study, 25 individuals suffering from GWI were given L-carnosine in increasing doses of 500 mg, 1000 mg, and finally 1500 mg, administered at four-week intervals. We utilized a double-blind and placebo-controlled design, which is a strong method for assessing treatment efficacy.

Our observations revealed that while L-carnosine seemed to have a positive effect on cognitive function, as indicated by improved scores on the WAIS-R test, it did not show significant improvements in fatigue, pain, or overall activity levels. Interestingly, there was a reduction in diarrhea linked to irritable bowel syndrome, which is a positive note for gastrointestinal health.

Overall, while L-carnosine may offer some cognitive benefits, it appears that other major symptoms of chronic fatigue associated with GWI remain resistant to this treatment.
