Calcitriol reduces age-related hypertension
Calcitriol reverses age-related hypertension via downregulating renal AP1/ATR pathway through regulating mitochondrial function.
We explored the role of calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D, in addressing age-related hypertension. The study involved young and aged male mice, where we administered calcitriol daily for eight weeks. Our goal was to determine if this vitamin could effectively lower high blood pressure that often comes with aging.
Throughout the research, we measured blood pressure and examined various biological markers in the kidneys. What we discovered was quite promising. Aged mice exhibited increased blood pressure and impaired sodium excretion, both linked to changes in certain kidney pathways. After treatment with calcitriol, these mice showed significant reductions in blood pressure and improvements in sodium handling.
Mechanistically, calcitriol appeared to enhance mitochondrial function and alter the behavior of specific proteins related to blood pressure regulation. By promoting healthier kidney function and reducing harmful signaling pathways, calcitriol seems to offer a viable strategy for tackling hypertension as we age.
Overall, our findings suggest that calcitriol could be a valuable addition to our approaches in managing age-related hypertension, reaffirming the importance of vitamin D for our health as we get older.

No vitamin enhances health or well-being like vitamin D (vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol). Research indicates that it may play a vital role in preventing SARS and upper respiratory infections. Studies show that individuals with higher levels of vitamin D have a reduced risk of heart attack, breast cancer, colon cancer, multiple sclerosis, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. I bought vitamin D3 during the pandemic; the capsules are small and easy to swallow, ideally taken with fatty foods.

Eicosapentaenoic acid benefits hypertension
5,6-diHETE lactone (EPA-L) mediates hypertensive microvascular dilation by activating the endothelial GPR-PLC-IP signaling pathway.
We investigated the impact of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) on hypertension, a condition characterized by elevated blood pressure that can lead to serious health issues. The study focused on a special compound called 5,6-diHETE lactone (EPA-L), derived from EPA, which we observed to promote better blood vessel function. This compound was tested on hypertensive rats and showed a significant reduction in blood pressure.
Interestingly, we found that the way EPA-L works isn’t through increasing levels of nitric oxide like some may expect. Instead, we discovered that it triggers a unique signaling pathway involving G-protein-coupled receptors. This pathway activates key cellular processes in the endothelial cells lining our blood vessels, allowing them to relax and dilate, thereby contributing to lower blood pressure. In vitro experiments on human endothelial cells confirmed these findings, providing further evidence for the effectiveness of EPA-L.
Overall, our research positions EPA-L as a promising metabolite from eicosapentaenoic acid, demonstrating potential benefits in managing hypertension and promoting vascular health.

Folic acid effects on hypertension
The impact of folic acid/VB12 deficiency on essential hypertension in children and adolescents: from a nested case-control and a cohort study.
We explored how low levels of folic acid (FA) and Vitamin B12 (VB12) relate to high blood pressure (BP) in children and adolescents. Conducting both nested case-control and cohort studies, we focused on primary school participants. In our research, we found that children with elevated BP exhibited lower levels of FA and VB12 compared to those with normal BP.
Interestingly, overweight or obese children with high BP had even lower levels of FA than their counterparts with healthy BP. We also noticed a correlation between FA and healthy lipid profiles, suggesting that adequate FA could help in regulating blood pressure. After adjusting for VB12 levels and homocysteine, FA alone showed a significant relationship with elevated BP.
In the cohort study, we observed that participants with high FA levels consistently had lower systolic and diastolic BP levels compared to those with low FA levels. Our findings indicate that maintaining adequate levels of folic acid and vitamin B12 during childhood is crucial, not only through diet but also possibly via supplementation, to help prevent hypertension in the future.

Turmeric supports blood pressure management
Curcumin/turmeric supplementation could improve blood pressure and endothelial function: A grade-assessed systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
We explored the potential benefits of turmeric, particularly curcumin, in managing hypertension through a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. This rigorous examination pulled together findings from several studies to better understand how turmeric could influence blood pressure and related heart health factors.
Our focus was on key indicators such as systolic and diastolic blood pressure, flow-mediated vasodilation, and the levels of certain adhesion molecules that could predict vascular health. By using various reputable online databases, we gathered a wide range of data to offer a comprehensive view of turmeric's effectiveness.
The findings suggest that turmeric supplementation could indeed play a supportive role in improving blood pressure and endothelial function. However, it's essential to note that more research is required to fully understand its impact on inflammatory adhesion molecules in the bloodstream.

Effects of aged garlic extract on blood pressure in hypertensive patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
We examined the effects of aged garlic extract (AGE) on blood pressure in individuals with hypertension through a thorough review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Our analysis included data from various studies, ultimately bringing together results from nine trials that involved a total of 584 participants.
The findings indicated that supplementation with AGE tea could lead to reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Specifically, we noted a decrease in systolic blood pressure by an average of 4.03 mmHg and a slight reduction in diastolic blood pressure by 1.44 mmHg. However, the most significant improvements were observed with daily doses exceeding 1200 mg.
Given that the overall data suggest positive outcomes for those with hypertension, particularly at higher dosages, we believe that AGE could be a beneficial addition to lifestyle and dietary strategies for managing high blood pressure. That said, further, well-designed clinical trials are necessary to validate these results and establish clearer recommendations.

Citicoline and CoQ10 protection study
Neuroprotective Effect of the Combination of Citicoline and CoQ10 in a Mouse Model of Ocular Hypertension.
We investigated how a combination of citicoline and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) might impact retinal cell health in a mouse model of ocular hypertension (OHT). Using four groups of mice, including those receiving the combination treatment and a control group, we aimed to understand if these substances could protect against the loss of retinal ganglion cells, which is a major concern in glaucoma.
The treatment was started 15 days prior to inducing ocular hypertension with a laser and continued until we examined the mice about a week later. Our findings were promising: the combination of citicoline and CoQ10 led to a temporary reduction in eye pressure shortly after treatment. Furthermore, it significantly prevented the death of specific retinal cells that are vital for vision.
While we were encouraged by these results, especially regarding cell protection, it's important to note that there were no significant impacts on neurons in the visual pathway areas we studied, like the dLGN. Overall, our research suggests that this combination might offer neuroprotective benefits in specific aspects of ocular hypertension, paving the way for further exploration into treatments that go beyond only lowering eye pressure.

The effective dosage is 200 mg, taken in the morning after a breakfast that must include fats. Prior to taking, one should consume l-carnitine for better absorption of Q10. For enhanced results, I alternate between Q10 and the PQQ + Q10 regimen. We follow this in courses. It's essential to consult a healthcare practitioner knowledgeable about supplements before use. This review might be helpful; I like it.

Ubiquinol shows partial benefits
Sex-Dependent Protective Effect of Combined Application of Solubilized Ubiquinol and Selenium on Monocrotaline-Induced Pulmonary Hypertension in Wistar Rats.
We explored the impact of ubiquinol on pulmonary hypertension using a model that mimics this serious condition. In our study, rats were injected with monocrotaline, a substance known to induce pulmonary hypertension. Over the course of the experiment, we provided various groups of these rats with different treatments, including solubilized ubiquinol and selenium, to see how these substances could protect against the effects of the disease.
The results were quite enlightening. We observed that ubiquinol administered intravenously had a protective effect, especially in male rats. This treatment reduced the right ventricle hypertrophy and lung mass commonly associated with elevated blood pressure in the lungs. Interestingly, when we combined ubiquinol with selenium, we found a less severe increase in right ventricle systolic pressure in males but not in females, indicating a sex-dependent effect that suggests females may not experience the same benefits from this combination treatment.
However, it's worth noting that the relative mass of the right ventricle did not show significant differences across all treatment groups. This suggests that while ubiquinol can be beneficial, particularly in males, the overall benefits may be limited and not as pronounced in females. Magnetic resonance imaging further revealed impaired lung perfusion in most rats tested, with signs of pulmonary fibrosis only present in the group receiving ubiquinol.
Overall, while ubiquinol shows potential in addressing pulmonary hypertension, its effectiveness might vary based on sex and should be approached with cautious optimism.

Good for family health
Most Useful Review
I have been using this product for several months in cycles of two months with breaks. Quercetin greatly affects overall well-being. I shared it with my mother and sister, both suffering from periodic blood hypertension. After a month of regular intake, they said their blood pressure issues significantly improved. I personally don’t have that issue, but I take quercetin for its anti-aging and anti-inflammatory effects.
Recommended for Covid-19
Most Useful Review
Quercetin effectively reduces the risk of chronic vascular diseases and normalises their permeability. In cases of hypertension, it helps lower blood pressure. Current recommendations suggest adding quercetin to treatment regimens for Covid-19 at a dosage of 250-500 mg daily, as it serves as a zinc ionophore, potentially inhibiting the replication of SARS-CoV-2.

Cholesterol and liver support
Most Useful Review

I was hesitant to try lecithin, but it significantly helped me after my tests showed high cholesterol levels. It’s crucial for liver restoration and low cholesterol, thus reducing heart disease and hypertension risk. Combining it with quality Omega supplements enhances its effectiveness. With age or stress, lecithin is essential for maintaining brain function and overall health, particularly for the nervous and cardiovascular systems.
Mixed results noted
Most Useful Review
I had a negative experience, possibly due to my low platelet count and blood pressure, as it seemed to thin my blood. However, my mother and husband both take it for hypertension and feel much better. It appears to work well for those with high blood pressure.

My daughter first bought this product abroad, and I am now on my second package. The results are impressive; I feel rejuvenated at 72 years old, despite my numerous health issues, including type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Taking this product has significantly uplifted my mood and revitalised my zest for life. I believe that post-60, this medication should be prescribed, assuming no contraindications.
