Calcium may aid IBS treatmentA double-blind randomized clinical trial of Boiss. in the patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome. We conducted a double-blind, randomized clinical trial involving 76 patients diagnosed with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) to evaluate the effectiveness of a dried extract combined with calcium treatment. Participants were split into two groups: one receiving a placebo, and the other receiving a combination of 75 mg of the dried extract and 175 mg of dibasic calcium phosphate (calcium).
Throughout the treatment period, we observed significant improvements in the quality of life, temperament, and various IBS symptoms among those who received the active treatment. Even four weeks after the treatment ended, there was a slight decrease in these benefits but still indicated some level of effectiveness.
Overall, we found that the whole extract, supplemented with calcium, helped to moderate symptoms of IBS and improve patients' overall quality of life. However, it’s important to note that due to the calcium's inclusion as part of the formulation, we can't define its isolated effect on IBS conclusively. Bowel movements improved Most Useful Review 5 people found this helpful I believe this product is beneficial for constipation. Although not commonly mentioned, using it with lactic acid bacteria seems to enhance bowel movements. It feels like pantothenic acid stimulates my intestines, and it also helps regulate sebum. I would advise against taking large amounts during dry seasons. |

Health benefits observed Most Useful Review 1 people found this helpful I have been taking the B-complex for 20 years, and I believe my health would be worse without it given the stress and poor environment. The benefits of B vitamins include normalising nervous and cardiovascular systems, enhancing bowel function, and bolstering emotional health. They aid in energy exchange and muscle function, while supporting immunity against illness. The capsules are a good size and easy to swallow. I thoroughly recommend this vitamin. Less irritability noted Most Useful Review 1 people found this helpful Initially, I only noticed a change in urine colour, but after a month, I became notably less irritable. The improvements likely occurred earlier, but I hadn’t paid attention. Before the “X” days, I felt calm. I definitely recommend it. 👌🏻 |

Ancient wheat improves IBS symptomsEffect of Triticum turgidum subsp. turanicum wheat on irritable bowel syndrome: a double-blinded randomised dietary intervention trial. We explored how consuming products made with ancient wheat affects individuals with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) through a carefully designed trial. In this double-blind, randomised study involving twenty participants, those who switched to an ancient wheat diet reported significant relief from symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, and issues with stool consistency.
Notably, these improvements in IBS symptoms were not observed when participants consumed modern wheat products. Additionally, there was a noteworthy reduction in certain inflammatory markers associated with IBS after the ancient wheat intervention. In essence, ancient wheat could offer a promising dietary approach for improving the well-being of those with IBS. Improved bowel passage Most Useful Review It was very easy to drink, and my bowel movements improved significantly. The bulk has increased, allowing for smooth and clear passage. |

Garlic inhibits B. hominis growthIn vitro sensitivity of Blastocystis hominis to garlic, ginger, white cumin, and black pepper used in diet. We embarked on a study to investigate how garlic, alongside other natural substances, affects the growth of Blastocystis hominis in patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Our research included stool specimens from both IBS patients and healthy controls to compare their responses to metronidazole (MTZ) and dietary spices like garlic.
As we explored our findings, we discovered that garlic had a significant impact, especially at lower concentrations. Specifically, over half of the B. hominis samples from IBS patients didn’t grow when exposed to garlic at a concentration of 0.01 mg/ml. As we increased the concentration to 0.1 mg/ml, the results were similarly promising, with a notable decrease in cell counts indicating that garlic can effectively inhibit the growth of this parasite in IBS patients.
Although garlic showed effectiveness, it's worth mentioning that some patients showed different responses compared to the healthy controls. For instance, while garlic reduced the B. hominis cell count in IBS patients, the control group experienced no growth of the parasite at the same concentrations. This suggests that the IBS condition may affect how well the garlic works.
Overall, while garlic indicates potential benefits for those battling IBS and Blastocystis hominis, we should also consider further research to fully understand its effectiveness and the nuances of its action in different individuals. Constipation relief Most Useful Review I feel the power of garlic without any odour, allowing me to take it in the morning. I previously suffered from constipation, but as I've continued taking it, the beneficial bacteria have increased, and my bowel movements have significantly improved! I have tried many remedies, but this one truly feels effective. |

Pectin improves IBS-D symptoms[Efficacy of pectin in the treatment of diarrhea predominant irritable bowel syndrome]. We evaluated how pectin, a soluble fiber, could help people with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). In a randomized controlled trial with 87 patients, half received 24 grams of pectin daily while the other half received a placebo.
After six weeks, those who took pectin showed significant improvements in their symptoms, stool consistency, and quality of life. Pectin not only supported healthy gut bacteria, but also balanced inflammation in the gut.
These findings suggest that pectin could be a promising treatment option for IBS-D. Natural bowel movement Most Useful Review 11 people found this helpful After just two days of taking two tablets of pectin before lunch, the effect was immediate. I experienced bowel movements for three consecutive days without any discomfort or diarrhoea. The ease of using this product and maintaining regularity has been fantastic, and I intend to keep taking it daily to sustain these results. |

Dietary guidance aids IBS managementEffects of dietary guidance on the symptoms, quality of life and habitual dietary intake of patients with irritable bowel syndrome. We examined how dietary guidance affects irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms and quality of life, particularly focusing on vitamin B12 intake. Our study involved 46 patients diagnosed with IBS based on established criteria, with 17 completing the entire program.
Through three sessions of personalized dietary advice, each lasting about 45 minutes, we found a significant reduction in IBS symptoms after the patients implemented the dietary changes. Their quality of life scores also improved notably. Although we noted an increase in vitamin B12 intake, it's important to emphasize that we did not isolate its effects from those of other dietary changes.
Interestingly, while our guidance helped patients enhance their overall nutrient intake, including vitamins and minerals, the increase in vitamin B12 specifically was the only change that reached statistical significance. However, we found no substantial differences in overall caloric or macronutrient intake among the participants.
In conclusion, while dietary guidance showed promising benefits for managing IBS symptoms and overall life quality, the impact of vitamin B12 alone remains unclear, as other dietary modifications may have played a role. Our findings suggest that individualized dietary counseling is a viable option in IBS management. Improved gut health Most Useful Review 19 people found this helpful Leaky Gut syndrome led to a deficiency in vitamin B12. While overcoming this condition, my teacher Cairo recommended a lozenge form for better absorption. Since the absorption was poor due to my weak stomach mucosa, I take it twice a day, enjoying its lemon flavour. My sleep improved, and I feel my leaky gut symptoms have almost disappeared after six months. This affordable option has been effective for me. |

Folic Acid reduces IBS-related painFolic acid attenuates chronic visceral pain by reducing clostridiales abundance and hydrogen sulfide production. We investigated the effects of Folic Acid (FA) on chronic visceral pain linked to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Chronic visceral hyperalgesia (pain sensitivity) was induced in rats through neonatal colonic inflammation, enabling us to examine how FA might alleviate this condition.
Our findings indicated that patients with IBS had a higher diversity of intestinal bacteria, particularly those that produce hydrogen sulfide—a gas that has been connected to pain. We noted a significant correlation between the levels of hydrogen sulfide and the severity of visceral pain in these patients.
Interestingly, we found that the levels of Folic Acid were notably lower in the blood of IBS patients compared to those without IBS. Subsequent supplementation with FA showed promise, reducing chronic visceral pain in the rats and normalizing the abnormal increase in gas production. We also observed that this treatment minimized synaptic responses in the spinal neurons associated with visceral pain.
Overall, our research suggests that Folic Acid can play an important role in reducing chronic pain associated with IBS by lowering hydrogen sulfide production in the gut. Satisfactory results Most Useful Review Excellent quality and satisfactory results. I advise purchasing it. The taste is great, and it has significantly improved my energy and bowel issues. |

Magnesium boosts colonic activityEffects of oral magnesium sulphate on colonic motility in patients with the irritable bowel syndrome. We set out to understand how magnesium sulphate influences the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In a study involving 20 IBS patients, magnesium sulphate was administered orally, resulting in a quick boost in colonic motor activity. Most participants experienced this increase within just two to six minutes.
Specifically, the percentage of colonic activity rose from 16.2% to 23.7%, signaling a notable change. Those who often felt abdominal pain after eating showed even more pronounced reactions, with their activity jumping from 16.1% to 29.8%. However, it’s important to note that three of these patients still experienced their usual pain after taking magnesium, suggesting that while magnesium can enhance motility, it doesn’t eliminate the pain for everyone.
Ultimately, these findings lend support to the idea that some cases of abdominal pain related to food may stem from heightened intestinal responses to cholecystokinin, a hormone released by the intestine. So while magnesium shows promise for intriguing changes in colonic movement in IBS patients, its effectiveness in alleviating pain remains mixed. Reduced irritability Most Useful Review Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic processes and is essential for our well-being. It depletes quickly, especially under stress. I experienced muscle cramps and insomnia, leading to irritability. After starting these supplements, my cramps and pain disappeared, and I resumed sleeping properly by 11 PM. I have more energy and, fortunately, my irritability has significantly diminished. My family has noticed the positive change too. |

Vitamin B6 may influence IBS symptomsLow intake of vitamin B6 is associated with irritable bowel syndrome symptoms. We explored the relationship between vitamin B6 intake and the severity of symptoms in individuals with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Through a study involving 17 participants diagnosed with IBS according to the Rome II criteria, we gathered daily symptom reports and food intake logs over a week.
Our findings indicated that the only significant dietary component linked to symptom severity was vitamin B6. Participants generally consumed less than the recommended daily intake of vitamin B6, averaging just 0.9 mg per day, compared to the suggested amounts of 1.6 mg for men and 1.2 mg for women. Notably, a higher symptom score correlated with lower vitamin B6 consumption.
This suggests that individuals with IBS may benefit from increasing their vitamin B6 intake. Although this study has limitations—being small in scale and cross-sectional—it highlights a potential dietary factor that may impact the management of IBS symptoms. Less stress Most Useful Review Despite my initial dislike of Solgar, these vitamins are brilliant! They are 100% effective. Lactoferrin may treat stress-induced IBSVitamin D and lactoferrin attenuate stress-induced colitis in Wistar rats via enhancing AMPK expression with inhibiting mTOR-STAT3 signaling and modulating autophagy. We explored how lactoferrin might alleviate symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) by examining its effects on stress-induced colitis in Wistar rats. In our study, we used a chronic wrap-restraint stress model to simulate the psychological stress that contributes to IBS.
The rats were divided into four groups: naïve rats, those subjected to stress, and two groups that received either vitamin D or lactoferrin. Our findings indicated that both lactoferrin and vitamin D improved various health markers compared to the stressed rats. Notably, lactoferrin treatment resulted in enhanced social behavior, increased levels of beneficial interleukin-10, and improved autophagy in the colon.
Furthermore, lactoferrin demonstrated a remarkable ability to decrease inflammatory markers and stress levels, suggesting it may modulate the body’s response to the inflammation linked with IBS. The results indicate that lactoferrin could be more effective than vitamin D for treating stress-induced colitis, making it a promising nutritional supplement for those struggling with IBS. Bile acid sequestrant A3384 shows promiseEffects of conventional and a novel colonic-release bile acid sequestrant, A3384, on fibroblast growth factor 19 and bile acid metabolism in healthy volunteers and patients with bile acid diarrhoea. We investigated how a novel colonic-release formulation of colestyramine, A3384, impacts bile acid metabolism and bowel function in patients with primary bile acid diarrhoea (BAD).
In a double-blind study, participants received either A3384 or a placebo for two weeks. While conventional bile acid sequestrants lowered serum fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) and increased bile acid production, A3384 did not exhibit this effect.
However, A3384 did improve diarrhoeal symptoms, showing promise as a better-tolerated treatment option for BAD. Regular stools Most Useful Review Taurine has proven to be a revelation! Vitamin D benefits IBS patientsThe efficacy of vitamin D supplementation for irritable bowel syndrome: a systematic review with meta-analysis. We examined how vitamin D supplementation could help improve symptoms for those suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This systematic review pulled together findings from four randomized, placebo-controlled trials, with a total of 335 participants, to determine the effectiveness of vitamin D on various IBS measures.
Participants with IBS often struggle with symptoms like pain and discomfort, and vitamin D deficiency has been frequently noted in these individuals. Our research indicated that taking vitamin D could lead to significant improvements in IBS severity compared to a placebo. The results showed that those receiving vitamin D reported notable changes in their IBS severity scores and quality of life scores after the supplementation.
Specifically, after taking vitamin D, participants fared much better in terms of symptom relief than those who received a placebo. While we found some variability in the overall effects on the total score of IBS, the positive outcomes in severity and quality of life were compelling. Overall, our findings suggest that vitamin D supplementation presents a promising option for managing IBS symptoms. Better sleep overall Most Useful Review Excellent product!
Reduced irritability Most Useful Review 9 people found this helpful The magnesium helped alleviate my anxiety and irritability, making me more productive and enabling quicker sleep. I took it alongside vitamin D and omega-3, which improved my overall well-being. The dosages are individual, but I felt a notable difference once I incorporated it into my routine. |

Glutamine reduces IBS-D symptomsRandomised placebo-controlled trial of dietary glutamine supplements for postinfectious irritable bowel syndrome. We examined the potential of l-glutamine as a treatment for postinfectious irritable bowel syndrome, specifically focusing on patients who experience diarrhea as a primary symptom. This study was a well-structured, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial that lasted for eight weeks.
Participants were divided into two groups, receiving either 5 grams of glutamine three times a day or a placebo. We aimed to track significant improvements in IBS symptoms, particularly looking for a reduction of at least 50 points on the Irritable Bowel Syndrome Severity Scoring System (IBS-SS).
Remarkably, we found that an impressive 79.6% of patients taking glutamine met this primary endpoint, compared to just 5.8% in the placebo group—which is a 14-fold difference! Alongside this, glutamine also positively impacted secondary outcomes like daily bowel movement frequency, stool consistency, and even normalized intestinal permeability.
The results suggest that oral dietary glutamine appears to be a safe and effective option for relieving IBS symptoms related to intestinal hyperpermeability following an infection. While the findings are promising, we recommend further large-scale trials to verify these benefits and explore underlying mechanisms.
Iron Supplementation and Gut MicrobiotaThe Impact of Low-Level Iron Supplements on the Faecal Microbiota of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Healthy Donors Using In Vitro Batch Cultures. We explored how low-level iron supplementation impacts the gut microbiota in individuals with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and in healthy donors. To do this, we conducted anaerobic, pH-controlled in vitro batch cultures using fecal samples from both groups, supplemented with various forms of iron, including ferrous sulphate, nanoparticulate iron, and pea ferritin.
Our findings revealed that IBS participants had distinct microbial profiles compared to their healthy counterparts. Interestingly, we observed that the different sources of iron we used did not have a negative effect on the overall microbial populations. Both pea ferritin and nanoparticulate iron showed similar outcomes, while ferrous sulphate appeared to enhance certain beneficial bacteria.
Additionally, we measured the production of metabolites and found that there was no harmful shift towards increased proteolysis. These results suggest that low doses of iron from the three sources tested are unlikely to be detrimental to the gut microbiota, giving us new insights into the potential for iron supplementation in managing gut health, especially for those with IBS.
This is the first time we've tested fermentation of pea ferritin, which adds an exciting dimension to our understanding of dietary iron sources and gut health. More energy Most Useful Review Very good! I feel the difference when I take the iron. I have more energy and no bowel problems. |

Probiotics enhance IBS treatment outcomesTwo Lactobacilli strains as adjuvant therapy in the management of irritable bowel syndrome: a randomized control trial. In our clinical trial, we examined the effects of a probiotic combination of Lactobacillus acidophilus and L. plantarum on patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). We randomly assigned 100 participants to standard IBS treatment or the same treatment plus probiotics over 12 weeks.

Jarrow Formulas, Curcumin 95, Turmeric Extract, 500 mg, 120 Veggie Capsules
Turmeric may alleviate IBS symptomsTurmeric extract may improve irritable bowel syndrome symptomology in otherwise healthy adults: a pilot study. We undertook an investigation to understand how turmeric, scientifically known as Curcuma longa, might affect symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in healthy adults. In a well-structured pilot study, we screened 500 volunteers for IBS and ultimately randomized 207 suitable candidates to assess the impact of taking one or two tablets of a standardized turmeric extract daily for eight weeks.
Throughout the study, we observed significant improvements in IBS symptoms. The prevalence of IBS symptoms decreased notably in both dosage groups, and after treatment, those taking one tablet saw a 53% reduction in symptoms, while the two-tablet group experienced a 60% decline. We also noted a meaningful reduction in abdominal pain and discomfort, with scores dropping by 22% and 25% respectively.
Furthermore, most participants reported improved overall quality of life related to their IBS symptoms. Approximately two-thirds of individuals noted a positive change in their symptoms post-treatment, indicating a favorable response to turmeric. While there were no significant differences between the two dosage groups, the findings confirm that turmeric may offer a helpful option for managing IBS symptoms.
Given these encouraging results, we believe that further placebo-controlled trials are necessary to validate the effectiveness of turmeric in treating IBS.
The results showed that those receiving vitamin D reported notable changes in their IBS severity scores and quality of life scores after the supplementation.

Reduced irritability Most Useful Review 1 people found this helpful For whitening care and stiff shoulders, I saw this on Instagram, where it was recommended to take it with Vitamin C, so I purchased it. It claims to be effective for irritability and stiff shoulders before menstruation. The tablets are a lovely, transparent orange hue and are small and easy to swallow. NOW Foods, Certified Organic Inulin, Prebiotic Pure Powder, 8 oz (227 g)
Inulin aids IBS-C symptom managementEffect of inulin in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (Review). We explored the impact of inulin on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), particularly focusing on its effect for those suffering from constipation. IBS is a widespread issue that brings significant social and financial burdens.
Our investigation revealed that inulin appears to play a beneficial role in managing symptoms by influencing bowel movements and improving stool consistency. It does this by altering the gut microbiota, which is increasingly recognized as an important factor in gastrointestinal health.
However, while the positive outcomes of inulin for IBS patients with constipation seem promising, more large-scale, randomized clinical trials are necessary to strengthen this evidence. It’s essential to ensure the findings are backed by solid data so that patients can confidently consider inulin as a viable treatment option. Effective against bowel issues Most Useful Review 35 people found this helpful In my experience with dietary supplements, inulin offered a remarkable outcome for my persistent bowel issues. NOW Foods, Zinc Glycinate, 120 Softgels
Zinc intake may reduce IBS riskDietary copper, zinc, copper/zinc ratio intakes and irritable bowel syndrome risk: a large-scale prospective cohort study from UK Biobank. We explored the potential connection between dietary zinc intake and the risk of developing irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) through a large-scale analysis of participants from the UK Biobank. By assessing the dietary habits of 175,421 individuals who did not have IBS at the start of the study, we sought to understand how various levels of zinc, as well as copper and their ratio, might influence the onset of this troublesome condition.
Over an average follow-up period of 13.3 years, we observed that 2,240 participants were diagnosed with new-onset IBS. Notably, our findings revealed a U-shaped relationship between zinc intake and IBS incidence. For those consuming less than 10 mg of zinc per day, an increase in intake was linked to a decreased risk of IBS. Specifically, individuals taking less than 10 mg of zinc daily experienced a reduced risk with higher zinc consumption.
However, the relationship shifted for individuals who had higher intakes of copper and zinc; no significant benefits were noted when intakes reached or exceeded established thresholds. This suggests that there's a delicate balance to maintain when it comes to zinc and copper in the diet.
Importantly, subgroup analysis indicated that younger individuals, particularly those under 60, could benefit more from slight increases in zinc. Overall, our study highlights the significance of dietary management, emphasizing that reasonable zinc intake may contribute to lowering IBS risk while keeping copper and the copper/zinc ratio in a sensible range. Supports immunity Most Useful Review 1 people found this helpful I have been using Zinc Glycinate from Now Foods for a long time. Life-changing effects Most Useful Review 14 people found this helpful The effect is instant! For three weeks, I've taken two capsules (200 mg) after breakfast, following the advice in “Ever Tired” on chronic fatigue syndrome. On the first day, I recognised the stark difference between being "tired" and having "no strength." For years, I'd lived with constant muscle fatigue, resembling post-workout exhaustion. Now, I feel energised, even when fatigued, and can manage daily tasks without collapsing into bed. My clarity of thought has sharpened, and I'm more confident driving after a long day. Bonus: my complexion has improved, and my skin is more hydrated. I ordered more and hope my experience aids others, especially where chronic fatigue syndrome treatment is lacking. Enhanced vitality Most Useful Review 2 people found this helpful Excellent product. The necessity of coenzyme Q10 in the body is not entirely understood, yet it's clear that additional ubiquinone can mitigate ageing effects and prolong lifespan. Production commences declining by age twenty, significantly weakening the body by middle age. By fifty, production becomes minimal, coinciding with increased incidences of degenerative heart diseases. Coenzyme Q10 is crucial during this time, yet often lacking. Hence, ubiquinone supplements are advisable, especially for those over fifty. They can alleviate ageing symptoms and assist with age-related conditions. This compound provides the energy vital for heart muscle function and boasts antioxidant properties. Scientific evidence validates coenzyme Q10's positive impact on cardiovascular health without side effects, making it pivotal in treating irritable bowel syndrome too. |
