Vitamin D influences MS cytokine balance
Vitamin D supplementation mediates a shift towards anti-inflammatory cytokine response in Multiple Sclerosis.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the potential impact of Vitamin D supplementation on patients newly diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Our study involved 16 drug-naïve patients who were monitored over a year. We measured the levels of 25-hydroxy-vitamin D in their blood and evaluated how this vitamin affects the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, which play significant roles in MS.

Our findings showed that these patients initially had low vitamin D levels and high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Over the course of the study, participants who received vitamin D supplementation demonstrated a notable decrease in pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. Additionally, the ratio of pro-inflammatory to anti-inflammatory cytokines improved, suggesting that vitamin D may help shift the immune response towards a more protective profile.

Interestingly, while some patients also received immunotherapy, our data indicated that Vitamin D supplementation might independently contribute to better immune regulation. Patients with higher pro-inflammatory cytokine ratios appeared more susceptible to relapses, emphasizing the potential role of Vitamin D in managing MS symptoms.

This research supports the idea that having adequate levels of Vitamin D could be vital for those facing MS, as it may offer a protective mechanism through improving immune responses. Ultimately, vitamin D supplementation could be an essential component of a comprehensive treatment plan for MS patients.

Immunity boost
Most Useful Review
One capsule daily ensures my immunity is robust against viral diseases. After regular vitamin D3 intake for several years, not a single cold was caught by my family. As someone with a thyroid condition, this supplement is essential; vitamin D deficiency is often linked with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and multiple sclerosis.

Ginkgo

Clarity of mind
Most Useful Review
I purchased this for my mother, who is of a respectable age and suffers from multiple sclerosis. She needs to take it regularly to improve her memory and brain circulation. After a month of use, she says the effects are better than from a similar pharmacy product. I observed a remarkable clarity of thought previously clouded by frequent mental fog. The one-tablet dosage is a bonus, and it's a safe composition for regular use. I will update my review in six months.

General health improvement
Most Useful Review
The quality of the brand and ingredients is superb. At 40, I've managed my multiple sclerosis with these supplements. The results have been outstanding. I never go without ginkgo, which significantly benefits my brain function, memory, and energy. Overall, my health has improved, and I suggest it to anyone with similar health challenges – just consult your doctor beforehand.

Selenium

9.5
Essential for health
Most Useful Review
Selenium is crucial and can effectively alleviate acute pancreatitis. The recommended dosage is 200 mcg, which relieves pancreatic attacks, leading to recovery in three days if combined with fasting. However, taking over 400 mcg daily can be toxic. Selenium also reduces cancer incidence by 40% and acts as an immunomodulator and antioxidant. A deficiency may compromise the body's defence against various diseases, including asthma, oncology, rheumatism, and cardiovascular issues. Furthermore, it helps eliminate toxic metals such as lead and mercury. Low glutathione levels may indicate selenium deficiency, which could also link to sclerosis.

Reduced trembling
Most Useful Review
Wonderful! I spent three months taking this supplement for my multiple sclerosis. The trembling in my hand completely ceased with the addition of selenium. However, I experienced increased fatigue once I stopped taking it, though my strength improved later. While mielin generally worked well, I am still figuring out its interaction with gluten. Melatonin was effective for a while, helping me sleep at night, but eventually, it stopped being effective.

Magnesium biotin enhances remyelination
Dose-Dependent Effect of a New Biotin Compound in Hippocampal Remyelination in Rats.
Most Relevant Research
We investigated the potential benefits of magnesium in the form of a new compound, magnesium biotin (MgB), on remyelination in rats with induced demyelination. This is particularly relevant for conditions like multiple sclerosis (MS), where demyelination plays a critical role in disease progression. Through our study, we compared MgB's effects to those of standard biotin.

Our findings revealed that MgB significantly enhanced the remyelination process compared to biotin alone. Both treatments showed a dose-dependent improvement in spatial memory, indicating benefits for cognitive functions. Additionally, MgB treatment led to reduced levels of inflammatory proteins, an effect that was more pronounced at higher doses.

Notably, we discovered that MgB helped restore important proteins involved in neuronal function and transmission, such as Synapsin-1 and PSD-95, which are crucial for healthy brain functioning. We also observed an increase in beneficial brain-derived factors and a notable reduction in markers of reactive gliosis, which suggests a reduction in harmful inflammation.

The evidence indicates that combining magnesium with biotin could provide a more effective treatment strategy for promoting myelin repair in demyelination-driven conditions like MS. Our results support the potential for further research into using MgB in clinical settings for MS patients.

Eliminated muscle tension
Most Useful Review
I no longer feel sore! I had been suffering from severe low back pain for months and, after starting this supplement, the pain vanished within two weeks. Since then, I've returned to weight lifting and cardio without feeling sore. This has also significantly improved my sleep, which had been disrupted before. However, the tablet size is rather large.

Cognitive improvements in MS diets
Association Between Improved Serum Fatty Acid Profiles and Cognitive Function During a Dietary Intervention Trial in Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis.
Most Relevant Research
We explored the impact of diet, particularly the intake of essential fatty acids like docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), on cognitive function in individuals with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). A well-structured trial involving 77 participants put two diets to the test: a modified paleolithic diet and a low saturated fat diet. Through assessments at multiple time points, we aimed to understand how these dietary changes affect both serum fatty acid profiles and cognitive abilities.

Our findings revealed that both diets led to significant improvements in cognitive function as measured by tasks such as the Symbol Digit Modalities Test. Notably, we observed that changes in the omega-3 index, which includes DHA, correlated with enhancements in cognitive performance.

It's important to highlight, however, that while these diets seemed effective at boosting overall cognitive function and altering serum fatty acid profiles, we did not establish that the changes in these fatty acids were responsible for improvements in cognitive measures. In essence, DHA's role, when isolated from other dietary components, requires further investigation to clarify its specific effects on cognitive health in MS.

Myelin sheath support
Most Useful Review
Excellent! DHA plays an important role in the omega-3 chain and aids in maintaining the myelin sheath, which is crucial for nerve impulse conduction. As a person with multiple sclerosis, preserving my myelin sheath is vital, and DHA is beneficial. NOW's DHA is cost-effective, offers a generous quantity for the price, and has good quality. The capsule size may be an issue for some, but it doesn't bother me. If you found my comment helpful, please give it a like.
