Iron treatment alleviates vertigo symptoms
Symptom panorama in upper secondary school students and symptoms related to iron deficiency. Screening with laboratory tests, questionnaire and interventional treatment with iron.
Our study aimed to understand how iron deficiency impacts students' experiences, particularly focusing on symptoms like vertigo and dizziness. We set out to identify undiagnosed iron deficiency among first-grade students at an upper secondary school and evaluated changes in their symptoms and lab results after three months of iron supplementation.
Through our research, we found that 12% of the students had iron deficiency, and 61% exhibited some abnormal test results related to iron levels. Notably, we observed that symptoms of vertigo and dizziness were significantly more common in those with iron deficiency. After the students received iron supplementation, we recorded notable improvements: iron levels increased, transferrin levels decreased, and importantly, there was a marked reduction in symptoms, including vertigo, irritability, and depressive feelings.
Our findings convincingly highlight that iron supplementation can be beneficial in alleviating certain symptoms, specifically vertigo and dizziness, among students struggling with iron deficiency. This connection opens doors to addressing quality of life issues tied to iron levels among young individuals.

Quercetin-vitamin C combination reduces vertigo effectively
[Clinical efficacy of a novel hemorheological drug ascovertin in patients with vascular encephalopathy].
We examined whether ascovertin—a blend of dihydroquercetin (a plant flavonoid) and vitamin C—could help patients with early-stage vascular changes in the brain. Over 21 days, 21 patients received ascovertin while 10 similar patients received no treatment.
The results were encouraging. Ascovertin reduced vertigo, headaches, and tiredness while sharpening mental clarity. We also observed meaningful improvements in blood flow: red blood cells became more flexible, clumping decreased, and markers of cellular damage dropped. The untreated group showed no such improvements.
These findings suggest quercetin-based formulas may offer real benefits for brain blood flow problems.

Vitamin D supplementation in preventing the recurrence of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.
We conducted a study to see how vitamin D affects the recurrence of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), a condition that can cause sudden bouts of dizziness. Our research was carefully designed as a randomized controlled trial, involving two groups: one received vitamin D supplements, while the other was given a placebo. We specifically focused on patients with low vitamin D levels, as previous evidence suggested they might benefit the most from supplementation.
Over the course of a year, the group receiving vitamin D supplements, at a dosage of 7000 IU weekly, showed significantly better results compared to the placebo group. At the six-month and one-year mark, the participants who took vitamin D not only had raised their vitamin D levels but also experienced fewer episodes of vertigo. The statistics revealed a marked decrease in recurrence rates for those taking vitamin D supplements, highlighting its potential role in preventing this frustrating condition.
In conclusion, our findings suggest that vitamin D supplementation could be an effective strategy for those prone to repetitive BPPV episodes, particularly if their initial vitamin D levels were on the low side.
