Natrol, Melatonin, 3 mg, 60 Tablets
Melatonin benefits in autism modelsMelatonin improves synapse development by PI3K/Akt signaling in a mouse model of autism spectrum disorder. We investigated the role of melatonin in enhancing synaptic development in mouse models of autism. Through long-term oral administration over 28 days, melatonin improved social interactions and dendritic spine density in genetically modified mice.
Importantly, we found that melatonin's benefits are linked to the activation of a specific signaling pathway in the brain. However, when this pathway was blocked, the positive effects of melatonin on synaptic function were diminished. Overall, our findings highlight melatonin's promise for addressing certain autism-related challenges. Improves sleep quality Most Useful Review 62 people found this helpful Excellent analogue of the pharmacy Melaxen. I gave melatonin to my son who struggles to fall asleep, especially when he's overexcited in the evenings. He is 6 years old and has autism. Children like him often have low melatonin levels, leading to sleep issues. Doctors often prescribe antidepressants that can harm not just the body but the brain. I sought a less harmful alternative and was recommended this melatonin. It calms my child effectively, allowing him to go to bed quietly without pills. I give him a quarter of a tablet, and he wakes up cheerful without headaches, which often accompany other medications. The price is very reasonable—240 tablets here were much cheaper than 24 in Russia. I highly recommend it! |

Doctor's Best, High Absorption Magnesium, 200 mg, 120 Tablets, (100 mg per Tablet)
Magnesium linked to autism levelsExploring the association between serum magnesium level and autism spectrum disorder using validated spectrofluorimetric method. We aimed to understand the relationship between magnesium levels and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), shedding light on a critical nutrient’s role in brain health. To do this, we developed a unique analytical method to measure magnesium levels in the serum of both autistic and healthy children. Our approach used innovative technology involving fluorescent graphene quantum dots to detect magnesium, ensuring accuracy in our measurements.
Our findings revealed that children with ASD had significantly lower serum magnesium levels compared to their healthy peers. Specifically, they averaged 2.03 mg/dl of magnesium, while the healthy group had an average of 2.28 mg/dl. This noteworthy difference suggests a potential link between magnesium deficiency and ASD, indicating that enhancing magnesium levels might benefit autistic children.
Overall, our study emphasizes the importance of considering micronutrients like magnesium when addressing autism. While further research is necessary to fully understand the implications, our results provide a foundation for exploring magnesium supplementation as a supportive approach for those with autism spectrum disorder. Calmer and attentive Most Useful Review 2 people found this helpful Excellent! I bought this for a child with autism, and he became noticeably calmer and more attentive, with improved sleeping. Broccoli extract shows temporary benefitsSulforaphane treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We explored the effects of sulforaphane, a compound derived from broccoli sprouts, on young men with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Participants aged 13-27 took daily doses of sulforaphane for 18 weeks.
Those who received sulforaphane experienced significant improvements in behavior, including better social interactions and communication, compared to the placebo group. However, once treatment stopped, behavior scores returned towards their original levels.
While promising, the results highlight that the benefits may not be lasting without continued treatment. Positive health effects Most Useful Review 2 people found this helpful I am delighted with the Jarrow Formulas Vegan BroccoMax. I took it for overall detox and liver health, noticing an improvement in my energy within weeks. I've heard that sulforaphane can positively affect autism symptoms. No clinical improvements observedDocosahexaenoic and Eicosapentaenoic Intervention Modifies Plasma and Erythrocyte Omega-3 Fatty Acid Profiles But Not the Clinical Course of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Randomized Control Trial. We explored the effects of DHA and EPA supplementation on children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Involving 54 children aged 2 to 6, we tracked changes in their omega-3 fatty acid profiles and plasma cytokines over 6 months.
Despite hopes for positive outcomes, our findings revealed no significant clinical improvements or anti-inflammatory benefits from the supplementation. This suggests that such dietary interventions may not be warranted unless specific omega-3 deficiencies are confirmed. Cognitive progress noted Most Useful Review 5 people found this helpful I purchased the DHA-500 for my 5-year-old son on the autism spectrum, and he has been taking it for over a month. He swallows the capsule with a spoonful of lemon water easily. In this past month, I've noticed significant progress in his cognitive development and motor skills. There’s no fishy aftertaste; I take it with lemon water too. I've already bought a second bottle! |

Examining Vitamin B12 in AutismSerum B12, homocysteine, and anti-parietal cell antibody levels in children with autism. We conducted a study that examined the levels of vitamin B12, homocysteine, and anti-parietal cell antibodies in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) compared to a control group. Our research included 69 children, where 36 had ASD, and 33 were matched controls based on age, sex, and socioeconomic status. The severity of autism was assessed using the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), while serum levels were measured using a common laboratory technique called enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
Our findings revealed that children with ASD had significantly lower levels of vitamin B12 and homocysteine compared to their peers in the control group. However, we found no significant difference in the levels of anti-parietal cell antibodies, which suggests that vitamin B12 deficiency may not be due to absorption issues related to these antibodies. While we observed notable micronutrient deficiencies, it’s important to clarify that the study did not establish a direct benefit of vitamin B12 treatment for autism symptoms.
Importantly, this research hints at the potential role that vitamin B12 deficiencies may play in the clinical features of autism. Nonetheless, we believe that further studies involving larger populations are necessary to better understand how these micronutrient levels might influence the condition and its underlying causes. Improved academic skills Most Useful Review 147 people found this helpful I have bought this product several times and really like it. My son, who has autism and doesn't speak, was advised by a psychiatrist to take methylcobalamin to enhance his cognitive function. Since starting this medication, he has excelled in his studies, particularly in mathematics. Although he began speaking at 8, by 10, his vocabulary had expanded significantly, which I believe is partly thanks to methylcobalamin. |

However, this Jarrow lozenge seemed much easier and at 16.67% of the recommended daily dose for methyl-B12, I found it difficult to ascertain what benefits other methods could provide. I began giving my 10-year-old son about 1-2 lozenges per week, and he appears slightly more focused. I have also introduced some additional B vitamins, including Metafolin and B6, but I don't endorse mega doses; he takes them alternately at most. He also receives vitamin D and omega-3 supplements. |

Jarrow Formulas, Vegan Methyl Folate, Extra Strength, 400 mcg, 60 Veggie Capsules
Improved medication absorption Most Useful Review 1 people found this helpful My 12-year-old son is on the autism spectrum and suffers from eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). He takes several medications for his autism symptoms but has a limited diet because of his condition. Although he isn't diagnosed with anxiety or ADHD, his autism leads to such symptoms due to executive functioning difficulties. His poor diet causes low folate and iron levels, adversely affecting his mood. A DNA test revealed he poorly processes folate, hindering medication absorption. The neuropsychiatrist suggested augmenting his medications with an L-methylfolate supplement, which could enhance medication effectiveness and overall health. Initially, we faced challenges getting this supplement prescribed, leading to dosage adjustments over a year. We usually take breaks from his medications in summer, and I recalled wanting to try this methylfolate for its benefits on energy, focus, and mood. Consistently beneficial Most Useful Review Excellent! This company offers good product quality, and I regularly use it for my child with autism as part of a treatment protocol. |
NOW Foods, L-Carnosine, 500 mg, 100 Veg Capsules
Assessing L-Carnosine's effectiveness for ASDEffect of L-Carnosine in children with autism spectrum disorders: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials. We systematically reviewed studies to understand how L-Carnosine might help children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Our focus was on randomized controlled trials, which are the gold standard in research, ensuring that results are reliable.
The research included four double-blinded, placebo-controlled trials and one open-label trial, totaling 215 participants. We assessed the effectiveness of L-Carnosine in improving social, communication, and behavioral skills, as well as addressing sleep disorders and gastrointestinal issues. While we hoped to find promising results, the meta-analysis revealed no significant improvements when comparing L-Carnosine to placebo.
Specifically, measures like the Gilliam Autism Rating Scale and the Childhood Autism Rating Scale showed no notable differences between the two groups. Current evidence does not support the use of L-Carnosine as an effective treatment for ASD in children, highlighting the need for further research and a larger array of studies in this area. Significant improvements noted Most Useful Review 36 people found this helpful This supplement is excellent for addressing brain dysfunction, and we observed commendable results in my nephew with autism, particularly when combined with lipoic acid and DHA. Improvement was noticeable within a few days, and we plan to continue using it to support cognitive function and prevent Alzheimer's. |
NOW Foods, Glutathione, 500 mg, 60 Veg Capsules
No significant improvements foundGlutathione, Vitamin C, and Cysteine Use in Autistic Children With Disruptive Behavior: A Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Crossover Pilot Study. We explored the potential of glutathione treatment as a way to improve behavioral symptoms in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In this study, we conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial involving 24 children aged 5 to 16 years who exhibited severe behavioral issues associated with ASD.
During the trial, participants received either glutathione, a combination treatment with glutathione and vitamin C plus N-acetylcysteine, or a placebo over an 8-week period. After a week off from treatment, we switched the groups to ensure an unbiased assessment of each method's effectiveness. Throughout the study, we closely monitored behavioral changes and measured plasma levels of glutathione.
Despite our thorough approach, we found that neither glutathione nor the combination treatment showed significant improvements in behavior or biological markers. Any observed positive trends seemed to stem from the placebo effect or simply the structure of being part of a study, rather than any real benefit from the treatments themselves. Relieves symptoms Most Useful Review 6 people found this helpful Glutathione capsules are beneficial for children with autism, alleviating the associated symptoms. May God grant healing for all. |
