Probiotics may reduce diarrhea duration
Effects of probiotics in children with acute gastroenteritis: A systematic review and meta-analysis focusing on probiotics utilized in Japan.
Probiotics' efficacy is uncertain.
We explored the impact of Lactobacillus acidophilus and other probiotics on children suffering from acute gastroenteritis. Our systematic review included randomized controlled trials comparing probiotics to placebos, focusing on strains available in Japan.

Although we found that probiotics like Lactobacillus acidophilus might shorten diarrhea duration by roughly one day, the evidence is not very strong.

Overall, while there were some positive signs in our findings, we recommend more research to confirm these effects and improve treatment strategies.

LA reduces Salmonella-induced inflammation
alleviate Serovar Typhimurium-induced murine inflammatory/oxidative responses via the p62-Keap1-Nrf2 signaling pathway and cecal microbiota.
Relevant to gut health research
We explored the impact of Lactobacillus acidophilus (LA) on inflammation and oxidative stress caused by Salmonella Typhimurium in mice. After treating the mice with LA for 14 days, we observed significant improvements in gut health. LA reduced harmful serum compounds and boosted antioxidant enzyme levels, supporting better recovery.

The study also highlighted how LA regulates gut bacteria, suggesting it could be useful for disease resistance. While the research focused on animal models, it offers promising insights for future solutions in gut health and disease prevention.

Probiotics reduce NEC and death risk
Neonatal outcomes following introduction of routine probiotic supplementation to very preterm infants.
High relevance to neonatal health
We examined how the introduction of routine supplementation with Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus affects outcomes in very preterm infants. Through a retrospective study comparing two six-year periods, we looked at infants less than 32 weeks gestation.

Our findings revealed a significant reduction in severe necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) and death after starting probiotic administration, showing improved outcomes for these vulnerable infants. This suggests that probiotics may play a crucial role in neonatal care.

Effective for gastroenteritis
Works for gastroenteritis and ulcers. I was initially sceptical, but this definitely works. I suffer from severe gastroenteritis, possibly an ulcer and IBS, and I noticed a difference after starting these. Just one capsule a day sufficed for me. However, when my stomach was healthy, I didn’t see much change, suggesting that if you don’t have serious digestive issues, the effects may not be as pronounced. I paused taking them for two years but returned, and they still worked! However, be cautious with frequent constipation; high doses of acidophilus can worsen it. It's more effective for diarrhoea. People often overlook this, leading to complaints. For constipation, one requires bifidum. This blend includes bifidum too but check the dosage of acidophilus to avoid complications. My only issue is that they contain gelatin and whey, which I overlooked when purchasing.

Probiotics improve poultry health
A cross-study analysis of the effect of a dual-strain probiotic applied via the waterline on the growth performance and gut health of broilers under a mild necrotic enteritis challenge.
Highly relevant gut health insights
We combined findings from three separate trials to evaluate the effects of a dual-strain probiotic consisting of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium animalis on broilers facing mild necrotic enteritis.

In these studies, birds receiving the probiotic showed improved growth and feed intake, alongside a reduction in mortality and intestinal lesions compared to untreated controls.

This suggests that probiotics can effectively counter the adverse impacts of necrotic enteritis in poultry, enhancing overall gut health and growth performance.

Lactobacillus reduces gastric inflammation
NCFM and Lp-115 inhibit colonization and gastric inflammation in a murine model.
High relevance for gastroenteritis research
We explored how two strains of Lactobacillus, NCFM and Lp-115, can help tackle the pesky H. pylori bacteria that often lead to gastric inflammation.

In a controlled study using mice, we treated groups with these probiotics for six weeks. Results showed that both strains significantly reduced H. pylori adhesion and the inflammation response in stomach tissues.

This suggests that Lactobacillus could be a promising ally in managing the negative effects of gastric infections.

Lactobacillus acidophilus benefits colitis
Sustained ameliorative effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus LA85 on dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis in mice.
Significant findings for probiotics
This study looked into how Lactobacillus acidophilus LA85 impacts ulcerative colitis in mice. We established a mouse model of this condition by using a chemical solution that triggers colitis symptoms.

The results were encouraging: mice treated with L. acidophilus LA85 showed significant improvements, such as less weight loss and reduced colon damage compared to untreated counterparts.

Additionally, this probiotic helped balance gut bacteria and improved inflammation markers, making it a promising option for addressing similar conditions in humans.

Good condition maintained
With hypersensitivity gastroenteritis, I tried acidophilus and found it effective. It's not without impact, as my condition has remained stable; I've not caught a cold. Despite using various products, I feel this one has kept me in good condition without specific changes. The quantity is ample, making it a good deal, but I wonder if I should rotate it monthly. I'm curious if the bacteria remain effective even when refrigerated. I'd like to try it again.
