Ideal for babies on antibiotics
Our 5 month old started with sniffles and ended up with a double Ear infection. The Dr put him on an antibiotic and our daycare provider suggested we put him on a probiotic as well to spare him tummy discomfort (due to good flora being killed off in his gut from the antibiotic). We see several drs in a practice and I called to ask their opinion about this and was told not to give this to him. I had already ordered him some but decided to just put it in the fridge for future use and followed the Drs iunstruction. FAst forward a fews days later and my baby is vomiting and in great discomfort after finishing antibiotics. The different DR we saw at the same practice (who is younger) suggested that I start adding Culturelle to his bottle to see if it would help (seeing that there was nothing else worng with him). He had lost 1/2 lb and we had at least 1 visit to the ER because he was miserable. I told her I had ASKED about this BEFORE we started the antibiotics and could have avoided this nonsense, but not wanting to give my baby anything that wasn't OK I did as I was told. She told me that some older Docs are not as progressive with this kind of thing and that it was perfectly safe. Fast forward yet again two days later after giving him the culturelle and I had my happy healthy baby boy back eating and gaining weight again. Two lessons here: 1) The culturelle worked wonders, is safe and I will never give my baby antibiotics without supplementing with this in the future. 2) ALWAYS check with your childs Dr. but ALSO know that different Drs say different things. I'm not advocating asking until you get the answer you want, but know that some Drs are more progressive on this kind of stuff than others. Glad we found this product. PS. If you read the fine print (I didn't at first) it says to keep in fridge to help it last longer
