Although we observed some positive effects on cholesterol levels from CoQ, BWA showed a more significant ability to reduce total cholesterol and triglycerides while boosting beneficial HDL cholesterol levels. The results suggested that BWA had a much better impact on preventing the health complications associated with high cholesterol diets than CoQ did.
Therefore, while CoQ was part of the research, particularly as a baseline to evaluate BWA, it ultimately did not demonstrate striking benefits in lowering high cholesterol or protecting against associated organ damage.

CoQ shows limited benefits
The Consumption of Beeswax Alcohol (BWA, Raydel) Improved Zebrafish Motion and Swimming Endurance by Protecting the Brain and Liver from Oxidative Stress Induced by 24 Weeks of Supplementation with High-Cholesterol and D-Galactose Diets: A Comparative Analysis Between BWA and Coenzyme Q.
Our exploration focused on the effects of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ) compared to beeswax alcohol (BWA) in the context of high cholesterol and d-galactose-induced challenges in zebrafish. Throughout a 24-week period, zebrafish exposed to a high-cholesterol and d-galactose diet showed decreased survivability. While BWA demonstrated a beneficial effect on survival, reducing adverse impacts effectively, we observed that CoQ consumption did not significantly improve the survivability of the zebrafish.
Both treatments showed some promise in preventing weight gain associated with the high-cholesterol and d-galactose diets. However, CoQ was less effective in influencing other markers such as blood cholesterol levels and liver health. For example, zebrafish receiving BWA had significant improvements in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and reductions in harmful liver markers compared to those treated with CoQ.
Overall, our findings indicate that while CoQ had some positive influences, its impact was not as strong as that of BWA, particularly regarding blood lipids and cognitive behavior. Therefore, CoQ did not demonstrate the expected significant benefits in managing high cholesterol when tested alongside BWA.

CoQ10's effect on cholesterol
Associations between dietary coenzyme Q10 intake and lipid profiles in adults: a national cross-sectional study.
We aimed to understand how coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a nutrient found in various foods, influences cholesterol levels in adults. Through a national cross-sectional study of 7,938 participants from the China Health and Nutrition Survey, we assessed their dietary intake of CoQ10 over three days combined with an analysis of their lipid profiles.
Our findings revealed that the average intake of dietary CoQ10 was about 5.4 mg per day. Individuals who consumed higher amounts of CoQ10 (more than 6.96 mg per day) showed some interesting associations with their cholesterol levels. Specifically, we noted that this higher intake correlated with lower levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C).
On the flip side, those in the top quartile also had increased levels of apolipoprotein A-1 and triglycerides. While the observations pointed out some benefits regarding lipid profiles, it is essential to mention that using dietary CoQ10 may not be sufficient for individuals specifically seeking to manage high cholesterol through supplementation.
Overall, while our connections between dietary CoQ10 and certain cholesterol metrics are noteworthy, they suggest a more complex relationship where some individuals might still need direct supplementation for better results.

CoQ10 lowers cholesterol levels
Effects of Coenzyme Q10 Supplementation on Lipid Profiles in Adults: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.
We delved into the effects of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) supplementation on cholesterol levels in adults to determine how it can influence lipid profiles. Through a thorough meta-analysis of fifty randomized controlled trials involving nearly 2800 participants, we explored its potential benefits for reducing cholesterol levels effectively.
Our findings indicated that CoQ10 supplementation significantly lowered levels of total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglycerides (TG), while simultaneously increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). This effect was particularly pronounced at a dosage of 400 to 500 mg per day, which was shown to produce the best results in terms of reducing TC.
Overall, the study provided strong evidence that CoQ10 could be a valuable ally in managing high cholesterol, helping to achieve a healthier lipid profile in adults. This research sheds light on a promising dietary supplement that might assist individuals seeking to improve their cholesterol levels effectively.
