Top Medical Research Studies

We examined how bromelain, a pineapple extract, helps in identifying allergies to Hymenoptera venom. By analyzing serum from 51 patients, we found that many presented cross-reactive IgE due to a carbohydrate called CCD.

Bromelain played a key role in revealing these cross-reactions, as seen in cases where it significantly reduced reactivity to venom allergens. However, it didn't change the reactivity to specific allergenic peptide epitopes.

Our findings suggest that bromelain could be a valuable tool in better diagnosing and differentiating true allergies from cross-reactive responses.

Bromelain reduces allergic airway inflammation
We explored how bromelain, a natural extract from pineapples, influences allergic airway disease in a mouse model. Mice were sensitized and treated with bromelain or saline over several days.

Results showed that bromelain significantly reduced inflammation markers and altered key immune cell populations. Consequently, we see potential in bromelain for the management of allergies, asthma, and similar conditions in humans.

However, further research is needed to confirm these effects in human subjects.

The study looked into how plant-made influenza vaccines interact with the immune system, particularly concerning allergies. We followed 280 participants over six months, monitoring for allergic reactions and measuring specific antibodies.

While some subjects produced temporary IgG and occasionally IgE antibodies, no allergic symptoms were reported. Importantly, the study found these antibody responses were not tied to allergy worsening, indicating that these vaccines may be safe for those with known plant allergies.

Initially bought for digestion, yet the effects on allergies and congestion surprised me. I took Bromelain during my last pregnancy to handle severe allergies. After taking it, my nasal congestion improved remarkably. It appears to work well for allergies and sinus congestion.

Bromelain does more than aid digestion; I include it in my regimen for seasonal allergies and as an anti-inflammatory for arthritis. Its effects are impressive, and I take it consistently, as I have found it to be very effective.

Improved allergy symptoms

Sure has helped my terrible allergies. I started this to minimise swelling post-operatively, and I've noticed a marked improvement in my chronic allergies. My runny nose and mouth breathing at night have significantly reduced, and I’m no longer suffering from itchy, watery eyes. I'm still taking Zyrtec and two capsules of bromelain daily, preferably on an empty stomach. Who would have thought it would be helpful? The capsules are easy to swallow as well.

Bromelain aids sinusitis recovery
We examined how bromelain, an enzyme derived from pineapple, affects children under 11 with acute sinusitis. In our study involving 116 patients across Germany, we compared those treated with bromelain alone, standard treatments, and a mix of both.

The results revealed that the bromelain group had the quickest recovery, with symptoms lasting about 6.66 days. Interestingly, only one patient had a mild allergic reaction, which was self-limiting. Overall, bromelain appears to provide a beneficial treatment option for young children suffering from acute sinusitis.

Eliminates histamine

These enzymes have worked wonders for my seasonal allergies. I take two capsules daily away from meals, which has almost entirely stopped my histamine production, allowing me to enjoy being outdoors without a runny nose or itchy eyes. It also significantly improved my chronic sinusitis, although I experienced some pain due to flushing out kidney stones. Staying hydrated is essential.

Rhinitis improvement
7 people found this helpful
The effect is definite for my oral allergies. I suffered from severe rhinitis, so I added this to my regimen of quercetin and nettle. After about a week, my rhinitis improved significantly. Although my sneezing continues to be painful and relentless, I manage an oral allergy to bromelain by wrapping it in a wafer to swallow quickly with water, as it irritates my throat. I had many tears recently, and while the effect is not as strong as expected, I hope it will improve.

No improvement noticed
I noticed improved digestion from bromelain but did not observe any results for my allergies, even though I took it without a doctor's advice.

Nasal relief

I order this annually for allergies. My husband also takes it alongside quercetin, which helps relieve nasal congestion effectively. The dosage works well for us, as we both take two capsules.

Time needed for allergies
I can't say much for skin allergies as I took it along with Pipin and Vitamin C, but there was no improvement. Perhaps I simply didn’t give it enough time.

Allergy worsened
Consuming bromelain daily has improved my digestion, and while the quality is good, I feel my allergy symptoms have slightly advanced.

Dramatic difference

This is a must-have for allergies and inflammation. I experimented to find my ideal dosage and usually take three twice a day. If I am exposed to a lot of pollen or smog, I take an extra dose. It has made a dramatic difference in managing inflammation in my sinuses, nose, lungs, and eyes. It is an excellent anti-inflammatory.
