We investigated the effects of extracts from barbados cherry, also known as acerola, on cancer cells. The study utilized various extraction methods and found that certain fractions, especially those from acetone and hexane extracts, exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against specific tumor cell lines, such as human oral squamous cell carcinoma and human submandibular gland carcinoma.
Notably, these fractions were more potent against cancer cells than against normal cells, suggesting a degree of selectivity that could be beneficial in treatment.
However, we also found that other tested fractions showed antibacterial properties primarily against Gram-positive bacteria, with no effectiveness observed against other pathogens like E. coli or even the Helicobacter pylori bacterium.
Importantly, the study highlighted these acerola extracts' ability to reverse multidrug resistance, hinting at a potential therapeutic application in overcoming cancer cell resistance to other treatments. Overall, our findings suggest that barbados cherry could be a promising natural option in cancer therapy, but further research is necessary to fully understand its capabilities and applications.

Love! I acquired elderberry to enhance my immune system, which it is mainly famous for. However, it also significantly clears my skin! I wasn't expecting that benefit, but it's become my favourite. I take 2-3 a day and rarely experience skin flare-ups. Though I don't usually suffer from acne, I do notice a pimple or two each month. My skin remains clear with this product. It's rather expensive; hence, I rate it 4 stars, but the benefits, including its anti-cancer properties, keep me purchasing it.
