While I'm very active, I love my long runs and hikes, and my heart rate goes crazy high, I barely sweat even in summer; so I never felt the need of electrolytes. But I was advised by a trainer to try to use electrolytes nonetheless, since the strenuous effort still affects my body.
I took one capsule of the GU Roctane Electrolyte before regular training (HIIT, crossfit, strength training), and one capsule before and one after for hikes and 10km runs. I noticed some small effects on recovery and muscle cramps, but nothing too impressive; but I'm also due diligent with my recovery stretching.
As a supplement, I like the addition of vitamin D, vitamin B6 and magnesium, great for an active female like me. The values for a single capsule are quite low, still.
The biggest results I got with these capsules are with nausea and gastric/stomach distress. No matter if I train/run/hike faster or after a meal, I tend to have an upset stomach sometimes. The ginger helps a lot.
The capsules are normal size, they're easy to swallow for me
