Quercetin shows promise for bronchitisIntegrating serum pharmacochemistry, network pharmacology and untargeted metabolomics strategies to reveal the material basis and mechanism of action of Feining keli in the treatment of chronic bronchitis.
Quercetin effects not isolated
We aimed to gather insights into how quercetin, a component of the herbal preparation Feining Keli (FNKL), may influence chronic bronchitis (CB) treatment. In our study, a rat model of CB was created using a combination of nasal drops of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and smoking exposure. This model allowed us to evaluate the effectiveness of FNKL in a controlled environment, assessing behavioral changes, body mass, and lung health through various examinations.
Our findings indicated that FNKL has positive effects on CB, showing a potential benefit in alleviating symptoms. One crucial element we identified was quercetin-3-galactoside, which appears to play a significant role in FNKL's effectiveness. We discovered that quercetin might help by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress while regulating metabolic activity associated with bronchitis.
However, it’s important to note that while quercetin is active within the FNKL complex, our study does not isolate its effects from other ingredients. This means that while its importance is highlighted, we cannot conclusively determine quercetin’s standalone effectiveness in treating bronchitis.
