Diarrhoea is a common digestive condition characterized by the frequent passage of loose or watery stools. It can result from various factors, including infections—viral, bacterial, or parasitic—dietary changes, food intolerances, or reactions to medications. Symptoms can also include abdominal cramps, bloating, nausea, and an urgent need to use the bathroom. While most cases resolve within a few days and can often be managed with home care, especially hydration, persistent or severe diarrhea may require medical attention, as it can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.
To help alleviate symptoms and recover more quickly, it's generally recommended to stay hydrated by drinking fluids that replace lost electrolytes, such as oral rehydration solutions, broth, or diluted juices. Eating easily digestible foods like bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast (known as the BRAT diet) can also be beneficial. If diarrhea persists for more than two days or is accompanied by high fever, severe abdominal pain, or bloody stools, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional.
