Saccharomyces boulardii alleviates nausea
Efficacy and safety of Saccharomyces boulardii in the 14-day triple anti-Helicobacter pylori therapy: a prospective randomized placebo-controlled double-blind study.
We investigated whether Saccharomyces boulardii could alleviate nausea and other discomforts during a 14-day treatment for Helicobacter pylori. In our study with 124 patients, half received S. boulardii while the other half received a placebo.
Participants reported improvements in gastrointestinal symptoms, such as diarrhea and epigastric discomfort. However, while S. boulardii helped with treatment tolerability and post-treatment nausea, it did not significantly enhance the overall success rate of eradicating H. pylori.
The effect of Saccharomyces boulardii supplementation on Helicobacter pylori eradication in children: a systematic review and meta-analysis of Randomized controlled trials.
We explored how Saccharomyces boulardii supplementation, when added to standard triple therapy (STT), can impact children’s nausea during H. pylori treatment. Analyzing data from 15 randomized controlled trials with over 2,000 participants, we found that S. boulardii significantly reduced nausea rates compared to STT alone—down to 12.7% from 21.3%.
Besides nausea, there were also lower occurrences of other gastrointestinal side effects. This suggests that S. boulardii not only aids in treating the infection but also makes the treatment process easier for kids.

Probiotics prevent diarrhea in children
Probiotics for the Prevention of Pediatric Antibiotic-Associated Diarrhea.
We examined the use of probiotics—specifically Saccharomyces boulardii—as a remedy for preventing antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) in children. Our analysis included 23 studies with nearly 4,000 participants, and we found that probiotics significantly reduced AAD incidence from 19% in control groups to 8% in those receiving probiotics.
While this suggests that probiotics can be beneficial, the overall evidence quality was moderate. Importantly, no serious side effects were reported, making probiotics a safe option for many children, though caution is advised in those with pre-existing health conditions.

Probiotics reduce pediatric diarrhea risk
Probiotics for the prevention of pediatric antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
We aimed to find out if probiotics could help prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) in children. In our evaluation of 23 studies involving nearly 4,000 kids, we discovered that probiotics, especially Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Saccharomyces boulardii, significantly reduced the incidence of AAD compared to placebo or no treatment.
The results showed that only 8% of children taking probiotics experienced AAD, versus 19% in the control group. Importantly, no serious adverse events were linked to probiotic use, making it a safe option. However, we also emphasized the need for further research to explore other probiotic strains and ensure consistent results.

Nausea resolved
I keep a jar for emergencies, especially for intestinal concerns. They provided quick relief from pain and discomfort, even after a stressful episode. Within 40 minutes of taking the pill, my nausea subsided so I could fall asleep.
Nausea is a sensation that often precedes vomiting and is characterized by an uneasy feeling in the stomach. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including motion sickness, certain medications, food poisoning, or underlying health conditions. The experience of nausea can range from mildly uncomfortable to intensely distressing and is often accompanied by other symptoms such as sweating, increased salivation, or a feeling of lightheadedness.
Many people experience nausea at some point in their lives, making it a common issue. Fortunately, there are several remedies and treatments available that can help alleviate this unpleasant sensation. Over-the-counter medications, home remedies like ginger tea, and lifestyle changes, such as eating smaller meals or avoiding certain triggers, can be effective in reducing nausea. However, if nausea is persistent or accompanied by severe symptoms like severe abdominal pain or fever, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Saccharomyces boulardii is a beneficial yeast strain known for its probiotic properties. Originally isolated from lychee and mangosteen fruit in the 1920s by French microbiologist Henri Boulard, this yeast is widely recognized for its ability to support digestive health. It is commonly used to prevent and treat diarrhea, especially in cases related to antibiotic use or gastrointestinal infections. Saccharomyces boulardii works by helping to maintain the natural balance of good bacteria in the gut, promoting the growth of beneficial microorganisms, and producing substances that inhibit pathogen growth.
In addition to its anti-diarrheal benefits, research suggests that Saccharomyces boulardii may also contribute to other health benefits, including digestive recovery after gastrointestinal illness and potential support for conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). While it is generally regarded as safe for most individuals, those with compromised immune systems or central venous catheters should consult healthcare professionals prior to use. As always, it's best to choose high-quality supplements that clearly specify the strain and dosage of Saccharomyces boulardii to ensure efficacy.
Saccharomyces boulardii, a beneficial yeast, is primarily known for its role in promoting gut health and managing diarrhea, particularly that associated with antibiotic use or certain gastrointestinal infections. While it is not specifically categorized as a treatment for nausea, some evidence suggests that restoring gut flora with probiotics like S. boulardii may indirectly help alleviate nausea stemming from digestive issues. By stabilizing the gut environment and potentially reducing inflammation, S. boulardii can support overall digestive health, which may contribute to reduced feelings of nausea.
However, it's important to approach the use of Saccharomyces boulardii with caution. Although it can enhance gut function, individual responses vary, and it is not a direct remedy for nausea. If nausea is persistent or severe, consulting a healthcare professional is essential to identify the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment. In cases where nausea is tied to gut disturbances, S. boulardii might improve overall conditions that could lead to a reduction in nausea symptoms, but results can vary widely among individuals.
Based on user reviews, the time it typically takes to see results from this supplement for nausea varies among individuals. Some users report significant relief within a relatively short period. For instance, one reviewer noted that their husband's severe nausea was completely alleviated within a month of using the product (Read Review). Another user experienced relief from nausea just 40 minutes after taking a dose (Read Review). This suggests that while immediate effects can be observed, longer-term improvements may take several weeks.
However, the results can differ based on individual circumstances and the severity of the symptoms. Some users have noted that while they experienced initial relief, the full benefits of improved gastrointestinal health and reduced nausea took time to manifest (Read Review). Overall, it appears that while some users may find quick relief, a commitment of several weeks may be necessary for others to experience the full range of benefits.
The scientific research surrounding Saccharomyces boulardii indicates that this probiotic is indeed supported for alleviating nausea, particularly during treatments for Helicobacter pylori infections. Multiple studies have shown significant reductions in nausea rates among patients taking Saccharomyces boulardii compared to those receiving standard treatments alone. For instance, one randomized controlled trial found that nausea rates decreased from 21.3% to 12.7% when S. boulardii was included in therapy, showcasing its potential to enhance treatment tolerability for children undergoing H. pylori treatment [2]. Further evidence suggests that participants taking S. boulardii experienced fewer gastrointestinal symptoms, including nausea, compared to those on a placebo [3].
In addition to its effectiveness in pediatric populations, research involving adults has yielded similar results, with participants reporting fewer issues related to nausea and abdominal discomfort when incorporating S. boulardii into their treatment plans [11]. Even though some studies did not show significant improvements in eradicating the bacteria itself, the consistent decrease in nausea and other side effects positions Saccharomyces boulardii as a valuable adjunct in managing treatment-related gastrointestinal distress [13]. Overall, the body of research affirms that Saccharomyces boulardii can be a beneficial supplement for those experiencing nausea during various types of medical treatments.
Based on user reviews, many individuals have reported significant improvements in their gastrointestinal symptoms after taking this probiotic supplement. For example, one user emphasized how their husband's persistent nausea and other stomach issues were completely alleviated within a month of using the product (Read Review). Another reviewer noted quick relief from nausea within just 40 minutes of taking a dose, which highlights the fast-acting nature of this supplement for some users (Read Review).
Additionally, several users have pointed out that the product not only helps with nausea but also addresses other conditions such as bloating and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). One user reported that it significantly alleviated symptoms of IBS and facilitated better digestion (Read Review). While experiences vary, it's clear that many have found this supplement beneficial for various gastrointestinal issues, contributing to improved gut health and overall well-being. However, individual results can vary, with some users mentioning delays in experiencing full benefits (Read Review).
Users have reported a variety of experiences when combining this probiotic supplement with other supplements to manage nausea. For instance, one reviewer noted that taking the probiotic alongside a prebiotic for gastritis effectively eliminated both nausea and pain (Read Review). This suggests that the pairing of these supplements might enhance their overall efficacy in addressing gastrointestinal issues. Additionally, several users have found that the probiotic works well to alleviate nausea during antibiotic treatments, indicating that it can complement other medications or supplements used in conjunction with antibiotics (Read Review).
However, not all users had a pleasant experience when taking multiple supplements concurrently. One individual reported feeling nauseous and overly full after attempting to take more than five capsules of the probiotic (Read Review), indicating that caution should be exercised when combining this supplement with others. Overall, while many users found combinations effective, experiences can differ based on individual tolerance and specific gastrointestinal conditions.
When it comes to alleviating nausea, particularly during treatments for Helicobacter pylori, research indicates that Saccharomyces boulardii can be a beneficial addition. One study involving a significant sample size found that patients receiving S. boulardii alongside standard triple therapy experienced decreased nausea rates, dropping from 21.3% to 12.7%. This suggests a marked improvement in tolerating treatment-related side effects for children undergoing this specific regimen [2]. Furthermore, other studies have echoed these findings, noting fewer gastrointestinal symptoms, including nausea, among participants taking S. boulardii compared to those who received a placebo [3].
While specific dosages aren’t detailed in the research, the consistent positive outcomes associated with S. boulardii across multiple studies suggest that its incorporation into treatment protocols can significantly enhance patient comfort. Given its efficacy in reducing nausea during various therapeutic regimens, individuals looking for relief might consider discussing the use of Saccharomyces boulardii with their healthcare provider, especially in contexts where nausea is a prominent concern [10].
