We explored how the probiotic yeast, Saccharomyces boulardii, impacts ulcerative colitis in mice. Through a careful setup, C57BL/6 mice received the treatment for three weeks and were later exposed to a harmful substance to induce the condition.
The results were promising; we observed that Saccharomyces boulardii significantly improved various symptoms. It helped prevent weight loss, diarrhea, and inflammation while strengthening the intestinal barrier. Furthermore, it demonstrated an ability to counteract oxidative damage effectively.
However, we also noted that while these findings are positive, further research is needed to fully understand the comprehensive benefits of this treatment in humans.

Saccharomyces boulardii reduces ulcer risk
Saccharomyces boulardii alleviates ulcerative colitis carcinogenesis in mice by reducing TNF-α and IL-6 levels and functions and by rebalancing intestinal microbiota.
We explored how the yeast strain QHNLD8L1 may help with ulcerative colitis. In our study, we looked at four different yeast strains and their effects on mice with induced colitis. Notably, QHNLD8L1 showed protective effects, improving body weight and colon length, while reducing inflammation. We also found that it decreased harmful bacteria and boosted beneficial ones, enhancing gut health overall. This indicates that QHNLD8L1 could be a promising approach to manage ulcerative colitis symptoms.

Saccharomyces Boulardii has numerous advantages. It is the only probiotic I can take alongside antibiotics, which is crucial for preserving my gut flora, especially post-COVID. These fungi don’t colonise our intestines but significantly help to maintain a healthy microflora. It is also effective for ulcers caused by pathogenic strains.
Effectiveness of 7-Day and 14-Day Moxifloxacin-Dexlansoprazole Based Triple Therapy and Probiotic Supplement for Helicobacter Pylori Eradication in Thai Patients with Non-Ulcer Dyspepsia: A Double-Blind Randomized Placebo-Controlled Study.
We looked into how the probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii affects the treatment of Helicobacter pylori in Thai patients. In a double-blind study, participants received either a probiotic or placebo with a moxifloxacin-dexlansoprazole therapy.
While the treatment achieved high eradication rates of H. pylori, we found that the addition of the probiotic significantly reduced side effects like nausea and diarrhea compared to those on placebo. This suggests that Saccharomyces boulardii could enhance patient comfort during an effective antibiotic regimen.

Saccharomyces boulardii aids ulcer treatment
Alleviates Colitis by Regulating FXR-NLRP3 Mediated Macrophage Pyroptosis.
This study examined how Saccharomyces boulardii supernatant (SbS) impacts ulcerative colitis (UC) by activating the FXR-NLRP3 signaling pathway. We used a murine model to assess the effects of SbS compared to a control group.
Our findings showed that SbS not only activated FXR but also suppressed the NLRP3 inflammasome in colonic tissues. It reduced macrophage pyroptosis, a process linked to inflammation. However, the benefits were reversed by an FXR inhibitor, indicating that FXR’s activation is crucial for SbS's effects.
We investigated the impact of a targeted delivery system for Saccharomyces boulardii, a probiotic yeast, aimed at treating ulcerative colitis. In our preclinical studies on female mice, we found that this engineered strain significantly improved gut retention time, increasing it by an extra 24-48 hours.
This enhanced delivery led to a dramatic boost in the concentration of the probiotic in the colon, which resulted in notable improvements in colon health markers. Key indicators like colon length and inflammation scores returned to healthier levels, suggesting promising potential for this targeted treatment strategy in managing inflammatory bowel diseases.

Saccharomyces boulardii shows protective effects
Protective effects of Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745 in an experimental model of NSAID-induced enteropathy.
We explored the effects of Saccharomyces boulardii (Sb) in mice with NSAID-induced enteropathy. Through various assessments, including clinical scores and intestinal analyses, we compared four groups: Control, Indomethacin, Sb, and Sb with Indomethacin.
Mice treated with Sb demonstrated significant improvements in their health compared to those only on indomethacin. Sb not only enhanced the intestinal barrier but also positively influenced gut bacteria, reducing inflammation and damage caused by NSAIDs.
Our findings suggest that Sb could serve as a protective agent against NSAID-related intestinal issues.

This probiotic has remarkable benefits for the gastrointestinal tract. Saccharomyces Boulardii strengthens immunity and relieves acute diarrhoea. It efficiently tackles antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and aids in the treatment of ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori.
An ulcer is a sore that develops on the lining of the stomach, small intestine, or colon. It occurs when the digestive tract is damaged or inflamed, often due to an imbalance between stomach acid and the protective factors in the digestive system. The most common types of ulcers include peptic ulcers, which can be further categorized into gastric ulcers (located in the stomach) and duodenal ulcers (found in the first part of the small intestine). Symptoms may include burning stomach pain, bloating, and nausea, which can vary in intensity based on the severity of the condition.
Saccharomyces boulardii is a beneficial yeast strain known for its probiotic properties. Originally isolated from lychee and mangosteen fruit in the 1920s by French microbiologist Henri Boulard, this yeast is widely recognized for its ability to support digestive health. It is commonly used to prevent and treat diarrhea, especially in cases related to antibiotic use or gastrointestinal infections. Saccharomyces boulardii works by helping to maintain the natural balance of good bacteria in the gut, promoting the growth of beneficial microorganisms, and producing substances that inhibit pathogen growth.
In addition to its anti-diarrheal benefits, research suggests that Saccharomyces boulardii may also contribute to other health benefits, including digestive recovery after gastrointestinal illness and potential support for conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). While it is generally regarded as safe for most individuals, those with compromised immune systems or central venous catheters should consult healthcare professionals prior to use. As always, it's best to choose high-quality supplements that clearly specify the strain and dosage of Saccharomyces boulardii to ensure efficacy.
Saccharomyces boulardii is a type of probiotic yeast that is often used to support gut health and manage various gastrointestinal issues. Research suggests that it may offer some benefits in the context of ulcers, particularly by promoting a balanced gut microbiome and helping to protect the gastrointestinal lining. Some studies have indicated that it can be helpful in the prevention and management of certain gastrointestinal conditions such as antibiotic-associated diarrhea and may aid in the healing of intestinal issues, potentially providing support for those suffering from ulcers.
However, it's important to note that while Saccharomyces boulardii may have some positive effects, it shouldn't be considered a primary treatment for ulcers. If you're dealing with ulcers, it’s crucial to consult with a healthcare provider for proper diagnosis and treatment. Incorporating probiotics like Saccharomyces boulardii can be part of a comprehensive approach to gut health, but they should complement, rather than replace, traditional treatment methods prescribed by a medical professional.

Saccharomyces boulardii enhances H. pylori treatment
Saccharomyces boulardii combined with triple therapy alter the microbiota in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection.
We evaluated how Saccharomyces boulardii, combined with standard triple therapy, influences the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia. In a controlled study of 144 patients, we measured eradication rates and symptom relief after treatment.
While the highest eradication rate was 93.18% in one group, those receiving Saccharomyces boulardii also reported fewer dyspepsia symptoms and experienced less gastrointestinal discomfort. This treatment shows promise in improving both effectiveness and patient comfort in H. pylori eradication.
