We investigated how coenzyme Q10 (Co-Q10) affects allergies, particularly allergic rhinitis and asthma. In our study, we used animal models to mimic these conditions and treated them with Co-Q10, either alone or alongside other compounds like Omega-3 and magnesium sulfate.
We collected and analyzed samples from the lungs, measuring various inflammatory markers such as cytokines and IgE levels, which play critical roles in allergic reactions. The results indicated that Co-Q10 helps promote the activity of a protective protein called Nrf2, which is crucial in defending against allergic responses and inflammation.
By increasing Nrf2 levels, Co-Q10 showed potential in reducing the symptoms associated with allergic conditions, helping to control allergic mediators and inflammatory factors. Overall, we found that Co-Q10 treatment could enhance the body’s resilience to allergens, potentially offering a powerful tool against allergic rhinitis and asthma.

We investigated how coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) might influence allergies, specifically allergic rhinitis. The study involved 30 Sprague-Dawley rats, which were divided into different groups. Some groups received treatment after being induced with allergy symptoms using ovalbumin, while others did not receive any treatment at all.
Our findings revealed that the rats with induced allergic rhinitis showed significantly higher levels of nasal symptoms, as well as higher amounts of certain inflammatory markers in their blood. However, the rats treated with CoQ10 exhibited a notable reduction in both nasal symptoms and those inflammatory markers, suggesting that CoQ10 may play a beneficial role in managing allergy symptoms.
In fact, CoQ10 proved to be as effective as a standard allergy medication, desloratadine, in reducing these symptoms. Furthermore, histopathological examinations showed that the severe allergic inflammation was significantly reduced in all treatment groups, including those treated with CoQ10.
From our observations, it seems clear that CoQ10 could contribute positively to allergy management due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. We believe that exploring its use could be beneficial for those suffering from allergic rhinitis.
