Garlic use for cough examinedUse of and attitudes towards herbal medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic: A cross-sectional study in Vietnam.
Includes garlic among treatments
We surveyed how people in Vietnam utilize herbal medicine, including garlic, for common ailments like coughs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that nearly half of the participants used herbal remedies, with garlic being one of the popular choices alongside ginger and honey.
While our findings indicated that many viewed garlic as safe and effective, particularly for treating sore throats, we must point out that the study did not individually assess garlic's specific effects on cough. Instead, it was considered among other herbal options.
Our insights suggest that while garlic is widely used, there’s no clear evidence indicating it’s distinctly effective for coughs on its own. This research contributes to understanding herbal medicine's role in healthcare, especially during challenging times like a pandemic.
