worked for me within a day; blend with an immersion blender for best dissolution and drink quickly for best texture
I have the individual packets since there are a lot of products listed on this page. I wasn't sure if I would want to try this at work or home, but the packets allowed me the convenience of individual serving sizes (no measuring spoons or worrying about water getting into a bigger container and causing clumps) and portability. Turns out, I prefer to use it at home. But at the time I bought it, I didn't know. I have been on a reduced calorie diet this year and, after losing more than 35 pounds, have had to drop my calorie goals even further to see weight loss results. This means I am just eating less food than I used to. So even though I am a vegetarian following a high fiber, low fat diet (this is just what works for me, it might not be the right diet for everyone), I was having some digestive complications, to put it politely. I thought that fiber would probably help, and I read that Metamucil has a particular variety of psyllium that is especially effective, so I bought this. First I will say, one packet a day is all I need. (If you have a lower fiber diet, perhaps because you are doing Paleo or Atkins or something, you may need more than one packet. But start with one and give it a few days to see how it's going to work for you.) For me, it worked within a day. I have one packet every morning and I have no more gastrointestinal issues. But, it took me a bit to figure out how to best use this, so I will share what I have learned. First off, be sure to take this with plenty of water. It has an orange flavor added (the packets do, anyway) that is not unpleasant. I also like that there is no sugar here, although there are about 20 calories per packet (this is not going to break anyone's diet). Anyway, the absolute best way I have found to take this is to get some cold water (at least 8 ounces, but experiment to find the amount that works best for you) and dump a packet in, then blend with an immersion blender and chug this as quickly as possible. If you let it sit too long, it gets gloppy and sticks to your cup. What did not work: (1) Stirring with a spoon. It didn't dissolve well. (2) Adding the powder to a small amount of hot water and then topping off with cold. There were clumps. (3) Adding the powder slowly with stirring to water. This was the perfect environment for the fiber to soak up water and become slimy and gloppy and hard to swallow. If you take vitamins or prescriptions, you may want to take them at a different time than you consume this. Psyllium has a way of binding to certain chemical compounds, vitamins, etc., that makes them less available, so you might be getting a lower dose than you think. Separated by a few hours, though, you should be fine
