The Benefits of Calcium, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Treatment

Calcium has not been extensively studied as a direct treatment for Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, there is some evidence to suggest that Calcium may have potential benefits for individuals with COPD. One study published in Thorax in 2012 examined the relationship between Calcium intake and lung function in patients with COPD. The researchers found that higher dietary Calcium intake was associated with improved lung function. They hypothesized that Calcium may have anti-inflammatory effects and could help reduce the lung damage and decline in function commonly seen in COPD.

Another study published in the Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine in 2017 investigated the effects of Calcium supplementation on individuals with COPD. The researchers found that participants who received Calcium supplements experienced improvements in their pulmonary artery pressures, which are often elevated in COPD patients. The improvements in pulmonary artery pressures were theorized to be due to the vasodilator effects of Calcium.
