The Benefits of Selenium, Gastroesophageal reflux disease Treatment

There is currently limited evidence available regarding the role of Selenium in preventing or aiding with Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Although Selenium is an essential trace mineral involved in various metabolic processes, its specific impact on GERD is still being explored. Some studies have suggested that Selenium may have anti-inflammatory properties, which could potentially contribute to alleviating GERD symptoms by reducing esophageal inflammation. However, the available research on this topic is sparse and inconclusive.

One study published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology in 2017 investigated the association between dietary Selenium intake and GERD symptoms in a Korean population. The researchers found a weak positive correlation between low Selenium intake and GERD symptoms. However, this study was limited by its observational design and inability to establish causation. Further, more comprehensive research is needed to understand the potential benefits of Selenium supplementation in individuals with GERD.
