We examined the role of magnesium alginate in treating laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), which causes symptoms like voice issues, swallowing difficulties, and coughing. In a study involving 100 outpatients, patients were treated with alginate for two months, visiting at the start and then at 15, 30, and 60 days.

We conducted a multicenter crossover study to see if magnesium alginate could alleviate reflux symptoms in infants. A total of 72 infants participated, receiving either magnesium alginate or a thickened formula in alternating phases.
Our findings showed a significant reduction in reflux symptoms across all infant groups. However, there was no significant difference in effectiveness between the two treatments. Importantly, using magnesium alginate also yielded cost savings of about €4.60 per infant compared to the thickened formula.
Thus, magnesium alginate appears to be a cost-effective option without sacrificing symptom relief.

WOW!! Relief at last! I’m pleased that Nexium is now available over the counter, so there’s no longer a need to pay the doctor every six months for a refill! Nexium is the BEST antacid I have ever used. It doesn’t cause me stomach discomfort like others do, and it REALLY works at controlling my acid reflux when taken properly. I feel relief all day and night and don’t worry about what I'm eating. I have GERD, and previously, I would wake at night with acid burning up my throat. Even though it says it can take four days to take effect, it seems to work soon after taking it! I will definitely keep buying Nexium! Pros: Everything!!! THIS WORKS!!! Cons: Running out! Do I recommend it? Absolutely! 100%

To my shock, it works just as well. I was sceptical about buying these as I knew the original pill works flawlessly. However, saving £10 made me give it a try. To my amazement, these tablets are just as effective for my severe acid reflux. I have no issues swallowing either pill, and I can do without any fluids. If you struggle to swallow, the smaller version may be easier. Great product and the perfect solution for reflux sufferers.

Outstanding—better for me than Pepcid! I had issues with acid reflux, which created an annoying shallow cough. My doctor suggested Pepcid Complete, but it lost effectiveness over time. My pulmonologist recommended Nexium, and within a few days, it worked much better than Pepcid ever did. My symptoms are almost entirely gone.

Gaviscon DA effectively neutralizes acid
We explored how Gaviscon Double Action, a combination of alginate and antacid, affects gastric acid levels. In a carefully designed crossover study, we monitored intragastric pH in healthy volunteers after administering Gaviscon DA versus a placebo.
The results showed a clear advantage for Gaviscon DA, with pH levels reaching 4 or higher nearly 47% of the time, compared to just 5% for the placebo. This confirms that Gaviscon DA effectively neutralizes gastric acid, enhancing the understanding of how its components work together for reflux relief.

Banxia Houpu Decoction shows promise
We evaluated how Banxia Houpu Decoction, a traditional Chinese remedy, can help patients with refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (RGERD). In our study involving 89 patients, we compared this decoction to standard Western treatments, including proton pump inhibitors with added magnesium aluminum carbonate.
Results showed that the decoction significantly improved throat burning, swallowing difficulties, and hiccups more effectively than Western treatments. However, the Western medicine group had better relief for heartburn and gastric burning sensations.
Factors like age and gastroesophageal flap valve grade also impacted treatment effectiveness.

The experimental group received a combination of Lanqin oral solution and Weisu granules, while the control groups used either Lanqin alone or Esomeprazole with Lanqin.
After four weeks, the experimental group showed a remarkable 91.7% improvement, much higher than the 73.3% in control group A. Although the experimental group differed significantly from control group A, results were similar to control group B, indicating no major advantage over Esomeprazole.

It worked great. Nexium helped my mum significantly. She used to vomit daily from acid reflux but stopped almost immediately after starting this. For nearly two months, she had been throwing up, and this was the perfect solution.
