Probiotics enhance H. pylori treatmentImproved eradication rate of standard triple therapy by adding bismuth and probiotic supplement for Helicobacter pylori treatment in Thailand.
High relevance to H. pylori treatment
This study aimed to explore if adding bismuth and probiotics could boost the effectiveness of standard treatment for H. pylori in gastritis patients. We found that patients receiving a combination of standard triple therapy, bismuth, and probiotics achieved an impressive 100% eradication rate of the bacteria.
This combination also helped lessen negative side effects from treatment. Thus, incorporating Lactobacillus acidophilus and other probiotics alongside traditional medications could be a game-changer in combatting H. pylori-related conditions.

Probiotics enhance H. pylori eradicationImproved eradication rate of standard triple therapy by adding bismuth and probiotic supplement for Helicobacter pylori treatment in Thailand.
High relevance for H. pylori treatment
We examined the effectiveness of adding probiotics, including Bifidobacterium lactis, and bismuth to standard triple therapy for treating H. pylori infection in gastritis patients. The study involved randomizing participants into groups receiving either the probiotic combination or a placebo alongside standard medication.
The results were promising, showing a complete eradication rate of H. pylori in 7-day treatment groups, especially where antibiotic resistance was low. Moreover, introducing probiotics helped lessen the side effects of treatment.

Lactobacillus acidophilus as vaccineOral immunization with recombinant Lactobacillus acidophilus expressing the adhesin Hp0410 of Helicobacter pylori induces mucosal and systemic immune responses.
Highly relevant vaccine study
We examined the use of Lactobacillus acidophilus modified to express a key component of Helicobacter pylori, known as Hp0410, as a potential vaccine against gastric issues like chronic gastritis and ulcers.
In our study, mice that received the recombinant L. acidophilus showed significantly less H. pylori colonization compared to those who didn’t. This vaccine also stimulated both mucosal and systemic immune responses, indicated by increased antibody levels.
Overall, the results suggest that this approach could be a promising and cost-effective strategy to protect against H. pylori infections.

We evaluated how effective current treatments are for Helicobacter pylori, a common cause of peptic ulcers. Our study involved 641 patients who received different antibiotic combinations. Notably, adding the probiotic Lacidofil to amoxicillin and clarithromycin significantly boosted treatment success to 94.3%.
However, we also found concerning resistance rates to antibiotics like clarithromycin and metronidazole. This highlights an urgent need to adjust treatment strategies due to rising antibiotic resistance, while also showcasing the beneficial role probiotics may play in enhancing treatment outcomes.

Probiotics improve H. pylori treatmentEfficacy of probiotics regimens for Helicobacter pylori eradication: A systematic review, pairwise, and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
High relevance for gastritis care
We explored the effect of adding Bifidobacterium longum to standard treatments for Helicobacter pylori, a common cause of gastritis and other gastric issues. By analyzing data from 91 clinical trials with over 13,000 patients, we saw that incorporating this probiotic significantly boosted the rate of H. pylori eradication compared to standard therapy alone.
Moreover, we noted a reduction in unpleasant side effects like nausea and diarrhea for those taking the probiotics, making treatment much more tolerable. Overall, Bifidobacterium longum stands out as an effective partner in H. pylori eradication efforts.
