We investigated the effects of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) treatment on patients experiencing chronic fatigue syndrome and related symptoms. In a comprehensive study, 115 patients presented with fatigue, precordial pain, and arrhythmias, which are often precursors to heart failure. We examined the impact of coenzyme Q10, combined with alpha lipoic acid, on individuals suffering from chronic COVID syndrome, which features symptoms similar to chronic fatigue syndrome. The study involved 174 patients, who were divided into two groups.

One group received the combined treatment, while the other group did not receive any treatment at all. Our focus was primarily on how well the treatment reduced fatigue, measured using the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS).

Participants who received the treatment experienced significant improvements in their fatigue levels, as indicated by a reduction in the fatigue impact scale total score. The results showed that their biochemical parameters, including key indicators like NAD+/NADH levels, CoQ10, ATP, and citrate synthase, were markedly better when compared to those on the placebo. Additionally, we noted that levels of harmful lipoperoxides decreased, which is a positive sign for overall health.

These findings suggest that the combination of CoQ10 and NADH could offer promising therapeutic benefits for those grappling with the challenges of CFS. However, it’s important to recognize the need for larger studies to validate and deepen our understanding of these initial results.
We explored the potential impact of coenzyme Q10 on chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) through a systematic review of existing studies. The aim was to find out if this popular supplement could help improve symptoms such as fatigue and overall quality of life for those affected by CFS.

Seventeen studies met our criteria for inclusion, each investigating various dietary modifications and nutritional supplements. Among them, coenzyme Q10 was evaluated in conjunction with another supplement, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydride (NADH). While some improvements in fatigue were noted with this combined approach, we need to be clear that the evidence did not strongly support the isolated effectiveness of coenzyme Q10 alone for CFS symptoms.

Overall, we found insufficient evidence to confirm that coenzyme Q10, on its own or in combination, offers significant therapeutic benefits for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. Hence, more targeted research focusing on CFS populations is needed to paint a clearer picture of how coenzyme Q10 and other nutritional interventions might fit into treatment strategies.
