D-Mannose shows effective UTI treatment
We evaluated a D-mannose-based dietary supplement, the DAPAD complex, to see if it could effectively treat uncomplicated E. coli urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Conducted as a randomized, double-blind trial in India, our study involved 70 nonmenopausal women.

The results were promising: at day six, the DAPAD group showed much higher clinical resolution (34.3% vs. 0%) and effective bacteriological resolution (85.7% vs. 14.3%).

By day 35, symptoms were completely resolved for all in the DAPAD group, while the placebo group still had patients with moderate or severe symptoms.

D-mannose significantly reduces UTIs
We explored the effectiveness of D-mannose alongside other nonantibiotic approaches for preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs). Our analysis included 50 randomized controlled trials involving over 10,000 participants.

Results showed that D-mannose significantly reduced UTI incidence, with a notable risk ratio. Other interventions like vaccines, probiotics, and cranberry also demonstrated effectiveness compared to placebo. Importantly, side effects were minimal and comparable across groups.

These findings support D-mannose as a valuable preventive option against UTIs.

We set out to see if d-mannose could help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women. This study involved 830 participants from 99 primary care centers in the UK and followed them over six months.

Unfortunately, the results showed that taking daily d-mannose did not significantly lower the number of women who experienced further UTIs compared to those taking a placebo.

Given these findings, d-mannose is not recommended as a preventive measure for recurrent UTIs in women.

Saved my marriage

D-Mannose has been outstanding for my chronic UTIs. For over 8 years, I suffered severe bladder infections, especially after intercourse. Despite seeing various doctors and being prescribed multiple antibiotics, nothing worked. I started taking a teaspoon daily with water and an extra one after intercourse. If I showed any symptoms, I would take one every few hours until they disappeared, typically in just one day. The addition of pure aloe vera juice and probiotics enhanced my results. My costly doctor visits and prescriptions are now a thing of the past. This combination has truly changed my life and my marriage!

Wish I could give it a million stars! This product has truly transformed my life. After experiencing UTI issues that antibiotics could hardly resolve post-marriage, I learned of this product and began taking it regularly. Now, I feel relief that no antibiotic has provided. My husband is thankful as well! I recommend using the powder form, as it’s much more effective.

I would never take antibiotics for a UTI again without trying D-Mannose first. Over many years, I dealt with various treatments, but nothing worked consistently. D-Mannose has proven effective for my recurring urinary infections. I experienced significant relief with just a teaspoon three times a day. It's become my go-to solution, and it significantly reduced my infections. This simple sugar really can work wonders!

We examined the strategies for diagnosing and managing recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTI). Our systematic literature search revealed that while antibiotics are highly effective for prevention, they come with significant side effects.

Interestingly, non-antibiotic options like d mannose showed promise, significantly reducing infection rates with minimal risk. This makes d mannose a potential alternative for those seeking to avoid antibiotics.

Overall, rUTI management requires a tailored approach, especially for vulnerable populations like the elderly.

We explored the impact of a "care bundle" approach on recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTIs) in women, combining behavioral strategies, probiotics, D-mannose, and cranberry extract. Over six months, we observed a striking 76% reduction in urinary tract infections and over 90% less antibiotic use.

Most women reported significant improvements in their quality of life, indicating that this multi-faceted treatment is promising. However, further studies with larger groups are necessary to confirm these positive outcomes for additional safety and effectiveness.

D-Mannose reduces E. coli adhesion
We aimed to uncover how D-Mannose influences the ability of drug-resistant E. coli to adhere to bladder cells. In our study, we compared clinical strains from asymptomatic bacteriuria with a standard strain. We discovered that D-Mannose significantly reduced the adhesive capacity of multidrug-resistant E. coli, similar to symptomatic strains. This suggests that D-Mannose may effectively alter the mechanisms of bacterial adhesion in urinary tract infections, providing a promising avenue for future treatment approaches.

Better than antibiotics
21 people found this helpful
From a frequent UTI sufferer who has been using this for years. I have had UTIs for about 10 years, averaging one infection a month. My doctor recommended ultrasounds due to the frequent incidents, but everything was functioning fine. No matter how clean I kept myself or the precautions I took, nothing helped. Tired of relying on antibiotics and their side effects, I opted for an alternative. I use D-Mannose whenever I sense a burning sensation while urinating, mixed with water, and take Cystex liquid cranberry daily. It works wonders, even for the sudden infections. I've concluded that I have a sensitive urinary tract and this method is a much better alternative to antibiotics. If you can relate, follow my advice to save money on doctor's visits and avoid the unpleasant effects of antibiotics.

What a blessing! I’m in my 60’s and suffer from urinary incontinence, usually accompanied by debilitating painful cystitis. I was too scared to go anywhere. A friend suggested D-Mannose powder, and it's been fantastic. I still experience some incontinence, but to a much lesser degree, and no more painful cystitis! The product dissolves easily in water or juice, has a slightly sweet flavour. I thoroughly recommend this product.

Natural products show UTI promise
We explored the potential of d-mannose and cranberry in preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs). The review highlights that both of these natural products may help by blocking harmful bacteria from attaching to the bladder walls.

Some studies, however, reported limited effects, primarily due to small sample sizes and design flaws. While there is promise in using d-mannose as a preventive strategy for UTIs, more robust research is needed to confirm its effectiveness and determine the best usage.

We aimed to investigate whether d-mannose could help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in postmenopausal women already using vaginal estrogen therapy (VET).

In our randomized controlled trial involving 57 participants, we found that d-mannose was well tolerated, but the results suggested it didn’t significantly improve UTI prevention compared to VET alone.

The cumulative UTI incidence was 41.1% in the d-mannose group versus 50.4% in the control, but this difference wasn't powerful enough to support a strong conclusion.

More research is definitely needed to fully assess d-mannose's benefits.

Cystenium II aids pyelonephritis treatment
We explored the effectiveness of the dietary supplement Cystenium II, containing D-mannose and cranberry extract, in treating children aged 7 to 14 with acute and recurrent pyelonephritis. In our study, 60 children were divided into a clinical group receiving both antibiotics and Cystenium II, and a control group receiving antibiotics alone.

After six months, the combination therapy showed significant improvement, with only one relapse in the clinical group compared to six in the control group. This suggests Cystenium II could be beneficial in reducing recurrent infections and reliance on antibiotics.

D-mannose shows promise for UTIs
We explored the effectiveness of D-mannose as a non-antibiotic treatment for urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women. Our systematic review gathered data from 21 studies, which also included cranberry and NSAIDs.

While we found some low-level evidence suggesting D-mannose may help prevent UTIs without significant side effects, the results are based on a limited number of studies. Larger and well-structured trials are necessary for more definitive conclusions. In comparison, research on cranberry and NSAIDs showed mixed results regarding their effectiveness.
