Iron treatment improves leg cramps
Iron deficiency associates with deterioration in several symptoms independently from hemoglobin level among chronic hemodialysis patients.
Relevant but not conclusive findings.
We explored the effects of iron deficiency (ID) in patients on maintenance hemodialysis, especially regarding common symptoms like leg cramps. The study included 154 patients, all of whom had reached target hemoglobin levels, which means they were not anemic. This allowed us to focus on the impact of ID without the confounding factor of low hemoglobin.

Our findings revealed that patients with iron deficiency reported a higher severity of leg cramps compared to those without ID. Specifically, we observed that a low transferrin saturation (TSAT) level contributed significantly to the experience of pain during vascular access punctures and those annoying intradialytic leg cramps. Additionally, patients with lower ferritin levels faced more intense issues like severe fatigue and headaches during their dialysis sessions.

The results suggest that treating iron deficiency could potentially alleviate these critical symptoms, indicating that proactive iron supplementation may be beneficial for those undergoing maintenance dialysis. Addressing ID might not only improve hemoglobin levels but also enhance overall quality of life by reducing painful experiences like leg cramps.

Effective treatment
Effective for the leg chirp syndrome, also known as Restless Leg Syndrome, which I've experienced since junior high. Recently, the symptoms intensified, and after consulting my doctor, I was prescribed legumenite. Being iron-conscious, I decided to try this alternative. Having taken it for about a month now, I've not experienced any symptoms nor do I feel dependent on medication! Occasionally, I feel dizzy, but it appears to have sufficiently helped my legs to rest.

Thrilled with results
No more Restless Legs Syndrome! After 18 years of suffering, I found that magnesium helps but doesn’t fully eliminate the issue. Deciding to try these iron capsules, I noticed a significant decrease in symptoms after about a week. Over 120 days, I’ve experienced mild symptoms only 5-10 times. I'm thrilled! The capsules taste neutral, are easy to swallow, and I take them on an empty stomach with no complaints.

Dizziness reduced
As someone prone to night-time leg cramps and dizziness upon standing, I found this iron supplement combined with Omega 3 to be life-changing. After consistently taking it for five months, the dizziness has nearly vanished, and even my husband has noticed the difference. I initially worried about my stool going black from the iron, but discovered that taking it with vitamins improves absorption. Now, I’m happy to continue with both iron and Omega 3, as they have worked wonders for me!

Disappeared symptoms
Since I began taking one tablet during my period, the symptoms of restless legs syndrome have vanished. I hadn't realised I was iron deficient. The taste is notably iron-like, but if taken quickly, it's manageable. I appreciate that it comes in a veggie capsule, making it feel more reassuring.

Cramps alleviated
Since I started taking it for iron deficiency, I can finally sleep through the night without waking up with leg cramps. The 18 mg dose has a bit of an unpleasant iron smell, but I've gotten used to it.
