We focused on the effects of the probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii on Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients, comparing its benefits to a placebo over four months.

Notably, we found that Saccharomyces boulardii significantly lowered inflammatory markers and improved overall antioxidant capacity. Participants also reported less pain and fatigue, alongside enhancements in their quality of life compared to those receiving the placebo.

This suggests that incorporating Saccharomyces boulardii might help alleviate some symptoms related to MS, offering a beneficial avenue for symptom management.

We evaluated how Saccharomyces boulardii affects IgA nephropathy in mice, particularly after an oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV).

The mice were divided into four groups—some receiving the OPV alone, others along with S. boulardii, and a few with just S. boulardii or no treatment.

After six weeks, we found that only the mice receiving the OPV alone showed signs of IgA nephropathy, with increased levels of serum IgA and kidney abnormalities.

In contrast, those treated with S. boulardii or receiving no treatment had normal results.

These findings suggest that S. boulardii can effectively prevent vaccine-induced IgA nephropathy in experimental models.

Saccharomyces boulardii shows potential
We investigated how Saccharomyces boulardii might help with inflammation in arthritis by focusing on its effects on gut health. Using a rat model of collagen-induced arthritis, we administered S. boulardii alongside Methotrexate for eight weeks.

Our findings highlighted S. boulardii's potential to positively influence gut bacteria, which could be crucial for inflammation management. While the results seem promising, further studies are needed to clearly establish its effectiveness in autoimmune conditions like arthritis.

We explored a novel oral drug delivery system designed specifically for treating IgA nephropathy, an autoimmune disorder. Using hydroxychloroquine and dexamethasone paired with yeast cell walls, we aimed for targeted delivery to the ileal region.

Our findings revealed that this system effectively reduced harmful IgA levels and improved kidney tissue health in test subjects. We also noted significant reductions in inflammatory markers, suggesting potential benefits in managing IgA nephropathy through this innovative approach.

Yeast polysaccharides may reduce inflammation
We investigated the role of certain yeast polysaccharides in modulating immune responses related to autoimmune disorders. Our focus was on mannan/β-1,6-glucan-containing polysaccharides (MGCP), which showed strong anti-inflammatory properties.

MGCP prompted the development of regulatory T cells and reduced harmful immune responses in models of inflammatory diseases. While we saw promising results in laboratory settings, these findings emphasize the potential of using yeast-derived compounds for therapeutic approaches in treating autoimmune conditions.

Effective anti-BAMBI treatment in mice
We investigated the effects of a novel treatment targeting BAMBI, a protein involved in immune cell regulation, on autoimmune disorders like psoriasis and arthritis in mice. Through careful experimentation with control groups, we found that the anti-BAMBI antibody significantly increased protective Treg cells and reduced disease progression in various models. This treatment effectively prevented skin psoriasis and type II collagen-induced arthritis, hinting at new therapeutic possibilities for chronic inflammatory conditions driven by immune system dysfunction.

Saccharomyces boulardii shows no benefit
We examined how the yeast probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii might affect patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). In a double-blind, randomized controlled trial involving 50 participants, we assessed changes in mental health, quality of life, fatigue, pain, and inflammation over four months.

While the goal was to identify potential benefits of SB on these symptoms, it appears there was no significant improvement observed. This suggests that while probiotics are an interesting avenue, further research is needed to determine effectiveness in managing MS.

We evaluated the effects of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and its selenized form, Selemax, on experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a model for multiple sclerosis.

Mice receiving both supplements showed improved symptoms and a reduced immune response. Selemax was notably more effective, enhancing beneficial gut bacteria and promoting specific immune responses.

These findings highlight the potential for selenized S. cerevisiae to play a role in modulating the gut-brain connection, indicating its promise for future clinical trials.
