Silybin shows promise for autoimmune disorders
We investigated how silybin, a unique flavonoid found in certain plants, impacts autoimmune disorders, specifically using a model for multiple sclerosis called experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).

In our study, silybin significantly reduced disease severity, inflammation, and damage to the central nervous system (CNS) in EAE mice.

The findings suggest that silybin works by inhibiting the activation of dendritic cells and reducing harmful Th17 cell differentiation. This positions silybin as a promising candidate for new treatments aimed at autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis.

Silibinin shows immunosuppressive effects
We explored the effects of silibinin, derived from silymarin (Silybum marianum), on autoimmune disorders, particularly multiple sclerosis. In a study using an animal model, we observed that silibinin notably reduced signs of spinal cord damage and inflammation, suggesting its potential immunosuppressive effects.

Additionally, silibinin was found to modulate cytokine production by lowering pro-inflammatory Th1 cytokines while increasing anti-inflammatory Th2 cytokines. This indicates that silibinin could be both immunosuppressive and beneficial for managing autoimmune responses, though further research is necessary to confirm its effectiveness in clinical settings.

Silibinin shows promise in autoimmunity
We explored how silibinin, a compound derived from milk thistle, may influence autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Through our study, which included both healthy individuals and RA patients, we found that silibinin enhances the expression of estrogen receptor beta (ERβ) and promotes apoptosis in T lymphocytes, leading to reduced inflammation.

It also acts on microRNA-155, which is linked to RA's progression. These findings suggest that silibinin holds promise as both a treatment option and a dietary supplement for managing autoimmune diseases.

Silymarin boosts insulin production
We analyzed how Silymarin affects the Pdx1 gene expression and insulin production in a model of diabetes following partial pancreatic removal. With 72 rats divided into groups, those treated with Silymarin showed significant increases in both Pdx1 and insulin levels compared to untreated rats.

Notably, the treatment led to a remarkable boost in β-cell proliferation, enhancing insulin secretion and reducing blood sugar levels. These findings highlight Silymarin's potential to support the recovery of insulin-producing cells in diabetic conditions.

We explored the impact of silymarin, a compound from milk thistle, on the immune system in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). By isolating Th1 cells from both newly diagnosed and treatment-receiving patients, we assessed how silymarin affected cell activity at various doses and times.

Our results indicated that silymarin effectively reduced Th1 cell proliferation and interfered with the production of key inflammatory markers. However, in patients treated with interferon-beta, there were mixed results over time, where some increases in inflammatory markers were noted. Overall, silymarin appears to hold promise as an immunomodulatory agent for MS.

I take one capsule three times daily as instructed by my doctor, 15-20 minutes before meals. I’ve always trusted this brand's quality. It works swiftly and effectively. After two weeks of my friend taking silymarin for post-childbirth liver issues, her test results normalised for the first time in seven months. She has no side effects, so I highly recommend it for improving liver function.

Improved liver function
1 people found this helpful
I ordered this for my liver problems. The capsules are easy to swallow, though they have a distinct turmeric taste. I haven't noticed side effects. After two weeks of taking two capsules with meals, I feel improvements—no discomfort in my liver, even after indulging. I've used milk thistle for years and am pleased with the results.

Slight improvement noted
1 people found this helpful
I've been consuming milk thistle for a week now, as I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, pityriasis rosea. It's said to aid liver detoxification and may help with conditions like cirrhosis and jaundice. Some suggest it can lower cholesterol too. With added turmeric, the antioxidant capacity may increase. I've noticed minor improvements after just a week, and it’s definitely worth trying.

Pain relief noted

The liver is essential for the body's functioning, acting as a toxin filter and aiding in vitamin absorption. Alcohol, junk food, and toxins harm it. I found that Silymarin from milk thistle helped alleviate sharp stomach pains while following an IG and keto diet. Supporting and cleansing the liver is crucial for nutrient absorption. I take 1 capsule three times daily before meals and noticed my right-side pain and discomfort post-eating have disappeared. Surprisingly, my cravings for sweets have diminished. I highly recommend this product!

Liver parameters normalised

This is a high-quality herbal preparation. My uncle's ALT and AST levels were previously above normal, but after taking two capsules daily, they are now ideal. He continues with this supplement to normalise liver parameters, and the addition of Curcumin has provided pain relief. I will continue to reorder it due to these positive results.

This is an excellent supplement. I take it for liver support on my doctor's advice. After long-term use of a medication for an autoimmune disorder, my bilirubin levels rose, but this product has helped immensely. My tests have shown significant improvement. I will definitely reorder.

Silymarin shows promise for RA
In our research, we examined the effects of silymarin (Livergol®) on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in a small group of 44 stable patients. After 90 days of treatment, we noticed a significant decrease in the Disease Activity Score (DAS-28), which assesses inflammation levels. Specifically, patients reported improvement in their symptoms, suggesting potential anti-inflammatory benefits from silymarin due to its antioxidant properties. However, the exact ways it works remain unclear, highlighting the need for more extensive studies with cytokine measurement to unravel its mechanisms further.

Silymarin may protect liver health
We examined the role of silymarin, an antioxidant from milk thistle, in decreasing liver complications linked to fingolimod treatment in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). In our study, 48 participants were randomly assigned to receive either silymarin with fingolimod or a placebo with fingolimod over six months.

The results were promising, showing a significant drop in liver enzymes and markers of oxidative stress in those taking silymarin. This suggests that silymarin could help mitigate some side effects associated with fingolimod treatment, potentially benefiting patients managing RRMS.
