Promising allergy treatment candidate
We explored the potential of a new ascorbic acid derivative, 6-Deoxy-2-methyl-6-(-hexadecanoyl)amino-l-ascorbic acid, as a treatment for allergies. This study involved synthesizing various palmitoyl derivatives and assessing their ability to inhibit allergic responses in a lab setting. The findings indicated that 2-Me-6-Palm-AA showed significantly more promise in reducing allergic reactions compared to earlier derivatives. However, while these results are exciting, further research is needed to fully understand its effectiveness and potential as a therapeutic solution.

We investigated whether applying the antioxidant vitamin C to the skin could lessen allergic reactions to p-phenylenediamine (PPD), a common ingredient in hair dyes. In a study involving 28 volunteers with known PPD allergies, we treated skin with a vitamin C formulation for 10 minutes before exposing it to PPD.

The results were promising, showing that about 75% of the participants experienced reduced allergic reactions compared to untreated skin. This suggests that adding vitamin C to the skin before hair dyeing could effectively help manage allergic contact dermatitis.

We investigated the effects of sodium ascorbate, a derivative of vitamin C, on allergies. Our findings from a study using various synthesized forms of this compound indicated that certain derivatives effectively reduced allergy-related reactions in mice. The results demonstrated a clear inhibition of harmful enzymes and degranulation, particularly with one potent derivative. This suggests sodium ascorbate could become a valuable option for allergy treatment, showcasing its potential benefits in managing allergic responses.

Whey proteins and allergenicity reduction
We investigated how adding ascorbic acid affects whey protein's allergenicity in the context of cow's milk allergy. Our study tested various treatments, including iron-complexed protein hydrolysates. We found that the allergenic potential was significantly lowered—up to 60%—when ascorbic acid was involved. The results demonstrate a promising approach to creating hypoallergenic supplements, making it kinder for those with milk sensitivities.

Scurvy linked to vitamin C deficiency
We observed a case of scurvy in a patient who presented with sudden joint pain and purple spots on the skin due to a vitamin C deficiency. After testing low vitamin C levels, we treated the patient with vitamin C supplements, leading to significant improvement.

This condition, often seen in people with limited access to fruits and vegetables, can sometimes manifest in unusual ways, such as unexplained skin bleeding. Identifying scurvy early can have a major impact on treatment and recovery.

Temporary swelling
I tried this vitamin C on a blogger's recommendation. After giving my daughter a loading dose during a cold, her symptoms improved within two days. However, she later developed a pink swelling on her forehead, which I believe was an allergy due to the high dose. I reduced her intake, and she didn't experience further allergies. Be cautious with dosages!

I had hoped this would help with my allergies and fatigue, but it caused stomach pain and headaches instead. After two weeks, I still felt discomfort and an odd pressure in my head. Oddly, I craved lemons after taking it. Overall, it wasn’t for me—and it surprisingly worsened my allergies.

Good vitamin C! The extra large packaging lasts a long time. I find this buffered ascorbate form gentle on the kidneys. My family, including my 5-year-old, has benefitted from it—coughs and colds have been milder and pass quickly without complications. There were no allergies or rashes, even with my child's atopic dermatitis. I personally increased my dosage without issues, but found a cheaper alternative by another brand.

Intravenous vitamin C shows promise
We investigated how intravenous vitamin C, particularly sodium ascorbate, could impact allergy symptoms in a group of 71 patients. In this observational study, we noted significant reductions in both allergy-specific and general symptoms, such as fatigue and mental concentration issues, indicating potential benefits from sodium ascorbate treatment. Notably, over half of the patients relied solely on vitamin C without other allergy medications. While our findings are promising, we stress the need for a larger randomized controlled trial to confirm these initial results.
We conducted a thorough evaluation of how vitamin C, when combined with pleuran, impacts asthma control and respiratory issues in children suffering from perennial asthma. The study was meticulously designed as a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 230 children aged 7 to 17 years. This means that neither the participants nor the researchers knew who was receiving the active treatment or the placebo, ensuring the findings were reliable.

The results were promising, especially for children under 12 years. They showed significant improvements in asthma control compared to those receiving only the placebo treatment. Meanwhile, older children (12 years and above) experienced fewer respiratory infections with the combination treatment. Overall, by the end of the 48 weeks, a majority of children on the pleuran and vitamin C treatment reported better asthma control compared to those on the placebo.

While the combination of pleuran and vitamin C was indeed beneficial for managing asthma, we must note that the study did not specifically isolate the effect of vitamin C alone on allergies or asthma. Thus, it is hard to draw definitive conclusions about vitamin C's effectiveness independently from pleuran. However, the approach suggested that using these supplements together could offer a helpful boost in managing asthma symptoms.
