Conducting a double-blind, randomized, crossover controlled trial, we evaluated 27 overweight and 25 obese male participants over six weeks.

We investigated how Spirulina supplementation combined with a calorie-restricted diet affects weight loss and metabolic health in overweight dogs. Over 12 weeks, 32 dogs participated in a double-blind trial receiving either Spirulina or a placebo.

Both groups experienced similar weight loss around 11% and showed significant improvements in cholesterol levels and overall antioxidant capacity. Notably, dogs given Spirulina had a higher chance of reduced triglycerides and a decrease in bilirubin levels.

While Spirulina showed some potential benefits, weight loss effects were largely attributed to the diet itself, indicating more research is needed for clearer results.
