Spirulina shows promise in treatment
Spirulina and pentoxyfilline - a novel approach for treatment of oral submucous fibrosis.
Study indicates significant benefits.
We assessed the effects of spirulina and pentoxyfilline on patients with oral submucous fibrosis, a precancerous condition affecting the mouth. Our study involved 40 patients, randomly assigned to receive either pentoxyfilline or spirulina for three months.

Both treatments led to improvements in mouth opening, burning sensation, and tongue protrusion. However, spirulina notably reduced burning sensation without any side effects, unlike pentoxyfilline, which caused nausea and other issues. We found spirulina to be a promising treatment option in managing this condition.

Severe nausea reactions
Violently sick! Unfortunately, it's a "no-go" for me. After taking chlorella and spirulina, I became very ill with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. I initially thought I had food poisoning from a diner I visited. But after resuming the powder, I became violently ill again. So, I stopped until over a month later when I attempted a smaller dose of 1/8 tsp each in spring water. I barely finished a few sips before experiencing nausea and vomiting again. I'm unsure which product caused this reaction, but please listen to your body.

Nausea experienced
To improve absorption, I attempted to take it on an empty stomach; however, I began to experience nausea afterwards. Now, I take it with meals but in limited amounts to avoid any unpleasant sensations in my gastrointestinal tract. It's quite difficult to manage. You should definitely take it along with something that can mask the taste—I've found that strong juices, especially citrus fruits, work best.
