I have dysmenorrhea (aka painful periods). To treat dysmenorrhea, I tried over-the-counter pain medication (no pain reduction) and birth control pills (cystic acne, rashes & no pain reduction). I stopped taking BCPs, did lots of research and found some incredibly effective ways to prevent my debilitating menstrual cramps. One of these is taking zinc.
A couple days before my period begins, I take 60 mg of Now Foods L-Opti Zinc Mineral Supplement with food. Taking zinc in this manner prevents dysmenorrhea completely. I take L-Opti Zinc (aka zinc methionine) because it's the most bioavailable form of zinc for supplementation.
Zinc is a life saver so I'll be taking it until menopause!
