I've had migraines for close to 20 years. I've managed them pretty well in recent years by reducing triggers and I rarely had a migraine more than every 10-12 days and they were light enough to start that I could head them off from becoming full blown by taking Excedrin immediately (that's the method my MD agreed to years ago since he knows I'm not keen on taking my prescription meds often). But 3 months ago, I was starting to have migraines a few times a week and half the time too strong for OTC and had to take my prescription. It was like I was back to when I was first diagnosed. Wasn't doing anything differently, but there it was.
I was getting ready to start taking my preventative prescription meds again, but since I really didn't want to as I've gone without them for many years at this point, I thought I'd double check other options first. I'd used magnesium oil at one point, but not consistently but still had it in the house. And I read about Vitamin B2. So I decided to order these and wow is this working wonders.
Since my migraines are lighter than plenty of other sufferers, I decided to start with 200mg per day instead of the customary 400mg a day to see how that worked and figured I'd increase it if necessary. I take 100mg in the morning with breakfast and the second 100mg at night with dinner. I saw an immediate improvement, no migraines for a week after averaging 3 a week before that. But I did get a migraine eventually in the second week and it wasn't too bad, but the second migraine I had was worse. So I added in that magnesium oil I still had every 3 days, I apply it to my feet. And that's the combo I've been on since and it has been something close to a miracle. I track how often I take meds and I've had to take Excedrin every 3 weeks or so, but usually just once and no more sensation of an onsent, and only had to take my prescription twice in 3 months and only once if you don't count those first two weeks before I started the combo. Been a absolute godsend.
Highly recommend this Vitamin B2 to other migraine sufferers. My MD was okay with my 200mg vs 400mg approach because why take more than I have to if half will get the results, but like I said I don't have as strong of migraines as others, so check with your doctor if they are okay with that. But yeah, the 200mg per day with magnesium oil (400mg) every 3 days is my current combo that is working wonders. So happy I tried this and stuck to it before starting my preventive prescription again
