We explored the effects of vitamin D3 along with other supplements like folic acid, selenium, zinc, and copper on patients suffering from moderate to severe asthma. In our study, we involved 70 participants over the age of six and divided them into two groups. One group received a daily syrup containing these supplements, while the other was given vitamin D3 drops for two months, alongside their routine asthma treatment.
After the treatment, we observed a noticeable improvement in lung function, asthma control, and overall quality of life in both groups. While the data showed a significant enhancement in these areas, we didn’t find substantial changes in cytokine levels, which are markers of inflammation. Interestingly, levels of selenium and folic acid at the start were linked to the severity of asthma symptoms, and after treatment, vitamin D levels positively influenced lung function.
Alongside these findings, we noted a reduction in oxidative stress in both groups, with the vitamin D group showing slightly better results. Overall, our study indicates that supplements, especially vitamin D, can help boost clinical outcomes and quality of life for those with asthma, making them a beneficial addition to conventional treatments.
