Got major depression? Afraid of creeping dementia? Please give this try!
First, thanks for the bargain price! I figure that's about 10c/1 gm/day, for over a year. Also, thanks to several reviewers for alerting me to the necessity of proper storage conditions to make this last minimally degraded over months. I am using a set of 4oz round containers with screw lids, available here at Amazon, for about $1.00/piece. I initially fill the container to near the top, if possible, and put a 10gm(2 or 5gm probably sufficient) packet of silica gel dehydrant on top, and store in the fridg......ADDENDUM- VERY IMPORTANT! After 1 year, my stock is almost finished. Unlike one reviewer, who reported that after a month or so, their stock began to taste very acidic(probably breakdown into acetic acid and carnitine) even after one year, under my storage conditions, it tastes the same as in the beginning, suggesting that my storage conditions were adequate to mostly retain the parent compound for this length of time!... Now, to my main point..........If this supplement works to reduce or eliminate your major depression, you may be able to throw away your old, expensive, slow acting, prescription anti-depressants, with their unwanted side effects! Why am I optimistic that this will work for you? A 2018 publication describes experiments with a group of people with major depression of variable severity. Their blood levels of acetyl l carnitine(AC) were compared with a control group. It was found that all had subnormal blood levels. Furthermore, those with the most severe current symptoms, or the longest time of periodic symptoms, or the most resistance to standard antidepressants had the lowest blood AC levels! Unfortunately, AC supplements were not tested on them, although they promised to do so in the future. However! Previous experiments with depressed rodents(Yep, they sometimes get depressed, too!) found that AC supplements clearly and rapidly relieved their depression! Now, recent studies indicate that doses of 2-4gm/day relieve depression in many people, the elderly more likely to be responsive. Also, another study found that 1.5-3gm/day reduced symptoms of mild cognitive impairment or mild Alzheimer's in most after 3 months, with the benefit increasing with longer treatment times! At higher doses, you may experience diarrhea or other GI problem. On the other hand, if you commonly experience constipation, at sub-diarrhea doses, you may be able to use this to prevent constipation! Good luck
