Exactly what you need in your bug-out bag. KI tablets are essential for nuclear accidents. Though the government says only those living within 10 miles of a reactor need KI tabs in case of radiation release, studies show that those further away, like Polish citizens during Chernobyl, avoided thyroid cancer epidemics. With this in my bug-out kit, I am taking reasonable precautions.

These are the ones you want. The iOSAT brand potassium iodide tablets are FDA-approved to shield against nuclear radiation in disasters. They are long-lasting, and if stored correctly, can last indefinitely. Living 30 miles from a nuclear plant, these pills would protect my family from potential cancer years down the line, should a serious accident occur.

Thyroid cancer risk

Protect your thyroid from radiation damage! In the event of a nuclear attack, thyroid cancer could result from radiation exposure. While nothing is 100% effective, taking Potassium Iodide can significantly reduce your risk. It doesn't protect the rest of the body or repair existing thyroid damage, but if taken before exposure, it can be effective. For details, check the Centers for Disease Control site about potassium iodide. This product is highly recommended!
