Quality not what it should be

I have been buying an using St. John's Wort from Frontier for over 15 years and generally have been pleased. I use it to great effect as a tea for mild depression. The quality of this product has been declining over the past five or so years. This latest batch was the worst. It had a lot of grass in it and consisted mostly of large stems (chopped of course). It takes several times as much of it to get the desired effect. Ten years ago, there were hardly any stems and no grass in their product and it was quite potent. I plan to return the unopened portion of this order. I recently found a supplier that has this herb with far superior quality to what Frontier sold even 15 years ago

Look at the difference between real and fake extract, dark red real, this brand see through orange, yes it is theft.

90% stems. Not even a quarter piece of a leaf, NO FLOWERS at all. Gets my steaming pile of human excrement award this month. This stuff has already been washed in alcohol so it has been pre-extracted. The whole 1lb bag is basically someones discard material after extraction. Any leaves you get are basically by accident. I've already run this through extraction process and the yield is so poor you would get more benefit from eating pine bark. Straight truth for you, these people are selling you their garbage and they know it. There is no way they could not know it. I've got bulk material from other suppliers so I know what quality is and this is nothing more than theft and is inexcusable. All right, update just to prove my point, I extracted HALF THE BAG of this stuff and distilled it down, then I used approximately the size of a pea of my other source of dried and powdered flowers. You can clearly see one is dark red, which is what it should be, and one from this batch is barely opaque and a light orange, which means it has almost no medicinal value at all. The red one my previous supplier, the one that has be pre-extracted with no medicinal in it "Frontier Bulk". They are thieves or they are stupid, take your pick

Don't waste your money!

This review is currently based on the flower to stem ratio. I have not made any oils from it yet. At least half the bag, if not more is stems. I shifted the flowers and leaves out and got stem material in it. As you can see by the picture there is still almost had the bag worth of stems. 5/1/2018 UPDATE I tried infusing this in oils using multiple methods and got NOTHING. Tried to make a tea and it was a dirty orange color. Not the dark red you get when you use a high quality St. John's Dried Herb. EXTREMELY disappointed in this product

A real disappointment from a company that at one time was synonymous …

I would echo what others are saying. 1lb is at least 75% stems by weight, meaning the real price is $60 for the active part of the plant. A real disappointment from a company that at one time was synonymous with quality

I am so disappointed

Product came within the estimated time, but I am not happy with this St. John's Wort I can clearly see MASSIVE AMOUNTS of twigs and stems pieces. Yes, this too can be used and yes this still means it is organic but it will lower the desired medical results from the wort. So VERY DISAPOINTING for Frontier to claim this as their product. But they are still an awesome company but this one failed the grade

Great for homemade vitamins.

I decided to start making my own vitamins. SJW is a good anti-inflammatory. I'd been buying SJW store bought for a while and noticed that it wasn't helping at all. Once I saw how many retailers had been outed as selling defective vitamins, I decided to bite the bullet and make my own SJW. I bought the empty gel caps from Amazon and started making my own. I've now made my own SJW, Chia seeds, Flaxseed Oil and Tumeric. It's not that hard to make them. Not to mention I'm online too much anyways. It's good to just sit and do a chore and just be silent. I've been buying Frontier herbs for almost 2 years now and I'm very happy with their quality. The SJW was a little coarse for pills so I ground it in a power in my Vita Mix. Poured right in just fine

High quality flowers and leaves

For mild to moderate mood lifting, St John's wort has been shown to be effective. I do not trust the extracts on the markets. Ingredients are chemically treated, there is little guarantee of receiving the full dosage, and you do not know from where the product is sourced. My package of organic herbs contained about 5% flowers, 85% leaves, and 10% twigs. It appears Frontier Co-op has fixed their quality control issues from yesteryear. The recommended use is to make a tea, but grinding these up in a small coffee bean grinder and ingesting the powder is much more effective

I made tincture with this turned orange as it should as soon as i put the alchol on it. If you have not tried st. johns wort for anxiety and bp...please try it

Helpful in Relieving Pain, Stress & Depression

So far so good. Although the extract is more potent for many people, this herb tastes fairly mild and is not unpleasant at all. It has natural antidepressant and pain relieving properties, which it was known for first (but most peope know it for its depression relieving properties). If you're on psych meds or have any serious health conditions, it's always a good idea to discuss changes with your doctor.. but a naturopath or herbalist may be more helpful since most modern doctors don't seem to know much about health supplements and medicinal herbs. That's not their area of expertise, and I encourage you to do your own research and always start slow, but do what's best for your individual mind and body. St. John's Wort may not necessarily yield immediate results, so if you're seriously depressed or suicidal, please seek professional help. For all others, this herb can bring you some stress and pain relief, and help uplift your mood. The quality is good

Good

People write how there are too many stems and other parts beside flowers. Well, a flower is mostly stem, so that is what happens when you break it into pieces. It comes in the package in the proportions that i would expect flowers to be in when they are broken. I have been using it as recommended .. 2 tsps twice daily. I really like it. Most noticeably, it gets rid of my headaches and greatly dims other random pains. Use it as recommended. It is not a magical antidepressant. The herb is a nervine, so it helps with depression associated with the nervous system [anxiety, stress] when you use it for a few weeks as recommended. Do your research before you take herbs medicinally and they will work out fine
