Yellowish capsules – NOT WHITE. But product inside is white and seems fresh.
Bottle just arrived. Has a 2018 expiration on it (like my last bottle). I cracked the bottle open and immediately noticed the product I received is NOT the typical white I've come to expect from this product. The capsules look yellowed! I was immediately concerned I'd gotten either old or bad product. Oxidized and discolored product is not something I want to take. I came back here to check reviews to see if anyone else had experienced the problem. I read another review (it's under the 1-star reviews) which also cited the discoloration issue. In the comments there was a suggestion to try cracking open the capsule to see if the powder itself is white. It IS. So, as another reviewer and commenter noted, I suspect Solaray has changed their capsules to be yellow toned. But the product itself inside looks just fine to take. I'm posting this in case anyone else gets concerned, too, and attaching a photo of what the difference looks like. 5 stars because the product itself is fantastic. I was using Superbio Buffered Time-released C. That one is extremely good as well, if you need the buffering especially. Even though this one is unbuffered, I don't find this one gives me any stomach upset. That said, I'm only taking about 4 grams/day - 2 at a time a.m. and p.m.. For me, this is more economical than the Superbio Buffered as well, since each capsule contains 1000mg instead of 500mg. But both are excellent products. I will be following up with Solaray, and will update this review if I find out anything different, or if I experience any bad effects with this batch. ========================================== Update: I spoke with Solaray, and they said that the Vitamin C sometimes changes the color of the capsules to look yellowish. Their QA dept. has apparently tested for safety and potency, and it's the same either way. They said something about slight variations in moisture during processing as possibly the reason why some change color and others don't. Again: it's just the capsule - not the contents. So, at any given batch, some of these will be yellowish, but safe and potent to take
