High-dose zinc alleviates angina
We explored the effects of high-dose zinc treatment on angina pectoris, particularly in patients suffering from severe atherosclerotic disease. This study reviewed existing literature and focused on how zinc might help reduce symptoms associated with this condition.

Zinc plays a crucial role in fighting oxidative stress, which is known to be a key player in arteriosclerosis and subsequent angina. Our observations indicated that when patients were given high doses of zinc sulfate, increasing their serum zinc levels significantly, many experienced notable improvements in their angina symptoms.

In fact, 12 out of 16 patients reported better outcomes after treatment. Moreover, it was found that long-term exposure to zinc in the environment appeared to lower incidences of exertional angina, reinforcing the idea that zinc could be beneficial.

We hypothesize that zinc may help prevent the oxidation of harmful LDL cholesterol, therefore slowing down the atherosclerosis process crucial to angina development. Additionally, zinc's effects may relate to its ability to inhibit inflammatory markers, which are often elevated in older adults.

Zinc effects on angina explored
We observed the effects of zinc on patients suffering from angina pectoris, a type of chest pain associated with coronary heart disease. In a study involving 31 participants, we measured changes in plasma zinc, copper, and erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) levels before and after a month of treatment with Kuo-Guan granule.

Before treatment, we found that the levels of zinc in patients were significantly lower, while copper levels were higher compared to those in a normal control group. After one month of treatment, there was an increase in plasma zinc levels and GSH-Px, along with a decrease in copper levels. These changes were statistically significant, indicating that the treatment helped regulate these trace elements in the patients' bodies.

However, it is essential to note that while we saw improvements in plasma zinc and GSH-Px levels, the effectiveness of zinc specifically as a standalone treatment for angina cannot be fully determined, as it was part of a combined treatment regimen with Kuo-Guan granule. The findings suggest a potential role of zinc in treatment, but more research focused solely on zinc would be needed to clarify its individual benefits in angina management.
